Oh yes...absolutely. Apparently, that's about the only way they can identify your profile. Most likely that they don't have advanced software that can sort through the thousands of applications. Scard: |
malheureusement, oui. :-( All factors considered, my CRS was @ 431, with English as first language in the EE profile. I could retake both IELTS/TEF and aim higher, or I could make French my first language, score 359, and get invited by Ontario. I took the 2nd option. Mamaroon: |
Sadly not. :-( I have a Bachelors, et en plus je ne suis plus jeune! :-) ontarioissauga: |
Merci bien, dandy00! Well...I'm not sure about other provinces, but ON has a French-Speakers' stream: https://www.ontario.ca/page/ontarios-express-entry-french-speaking-skilled-worker-stream You'd need a CLB7 and above in all French tests, and at least CLB 6 in the English ones. Amongst other requirements... dandy00: |
Quick update: Got the TEF attestation; Ontario invited me to apply for PNP, the French-Speakers stream, as hoped. best wishes. [quote author=DanMisla post=75072233]Hi, Lemme try to give back to this thread, which really helped. My results (finally!) from Abuja, 10 Dec: Comp. Ecrite C1 - 240/300 (CLB ; Comp. Orale B2 - 260/360 (CLB 7); Exp. Ecrite C1 - 390/450 (CLB 9); Exp. Orale B2 - 329/450 (CLB 7) |

Well then...TEF it should be... When do you plan to have another go? Mamaroon: |
You're right. Not like they were even making it happen by the "4-6 weeks". mariah203: |
Website says results to be ready in 15 working days: https://www.lefrancaisdesaffaires.fr/tests-diplomes/test-evaluation-francais-tef/ See over-promising and under-delivering! princesschuks: |
@njbybrthnly I had to go reconfirm that it took you 21 days to get the attestation, after the results came out. This...isn't sth I understand, esp when compared to IELTS! I'm relearning patience, honestly. |
Merci bien! 45pts added. CLB7/8...3pts each, CLB9...6pts, plus the 30pts bonus. Mummychichi: |
Mamaroon:Thanks. I'm pleased you found it useful. I learned a lot here myself! Best wishes... |
Scard:Always. |
njbybrthnly:You're the true inspiration. Thanks for all your help! |
Hi, Lemme try to give back to this thread, which really helped. My results (finally!) from Abuja, 10 Dec: Comp. Ecrite C1 - 240/300 (CLB ; Comp. Orale B2 - 260/360 (CLB 7); Exp. Ecrite C1 - 390/450 (CLB 9); Exp. Orale B2 - 329/450 (CLB 7)I started learning French (at AF Lagos) years ago, so I'm not best placed to answer the popular question: how long it'd take to go from novice to B2/CLB7. For that I strongly recommend testimonies from @njbybrthnly and @BootyliciousHon. Their advice is valid for French debutants as for people, like me, who fall in and out. My experience: EE Pleasantly shocked at my Writing scores: I didn't feel confident before and after the exam. For Task 1, completing a "fait divers", we wrote about a guy who woke up to see bank notes strewn in his garden, and I did my best to produce the closest I could to a newspaper report. So...Who? When? Where? What? How? Etc? But I also used reported speech, as a journalist would quote an interviewee. For eg: ""I was shocked; I almost had a heart attack!!", said Mr. Butiku to a reporter from…" Then to add colour, like..."Mr. Butiku took photos of his garden before calling the police, because he knows they are crooks". And throw in a catchy ending. For Task 2, after the intro, identify two or three opposing points and then use connectors (par contre, en revanche) to provide counter arguments. Lots of practice helped me. As did preparing a quick plan is essential. I saw somewhere that you shouldn't write your entire essay on rough paper first; I totally agree! A huge part of the challenge is managing time. CO I’m relieved as I made the big mistake of fretting over 1 question and it almost messed me up. You really should be reading ahead not dwelling one already gone. I too benefited from French news, and as TEF always repeats the format, I spent time listening to interview sessions, with a presenter discussing a topic with 1 or more guests. CE I was pleased with the Reading test, so maybe I'm a little disappointed with CLB8. Silly mistakes perhaps? But by all means, start with the first 10 and last 10 questions, a brilliant tip I got here! Some of the questions, I had to just do a process of elimination and to pace myself; time went by so fast! EO The formal role play was to call a clown agency about services for a children party. I got little or no prep time! I struggled with questions: we didn't do many clown parties in my time...alas! Second task was to convince a friend to spend a weekend sleeping in a "yourte", literally the first time I saw the word! I had to look at the photos to realise it's a tent. The idea here is to find a way to keep trying to convince the examiner, "your friend". You have to be creative. And you must have a response for all his questions. If he asks about costs, for eg, you must give a figure, ideally a ridiculously cheap figure. My examiner complained about sleeping in the open with mosquitoes...I said don’t worry there would be so much fun we won’t sleep. He said what if he breaks a leg, I said emergency services respond quickly. I even referred to a mutual friend, "Paul", who had had fun during the camping some weekends ago. Going on for 10mins wasn't easy and I had to say "je comprends tes reticences" a few times. But, it was ok in the end. En plus… I was initially disappointed with the prep class, where they got us essentially working through past questions. I had hoped for more tips and tricks. But no knowledge is lost, no practice is wasted, and I do believe my Writing improved those 5 weeks. It’s always useful to share ideas with other candidates. So, in the end, value for the N15k. Then, I can't get over the fact that we have to wait 6-8 weeks to get the results; the manual said 2-4. Its ridiculous. I hope you manage your anxiety better than I did! Donc viola, happy to answer any questions. Best wishes to those sitting this weekend! |
Du courage! Next time will be better... My major frustration with the exam is just how long it takes for the results! Since Nov 24...almost two months! SMH. Mamaroon: |
Brilliant! Hugely impressive. Best wishes for your next attempt... BootyliciousHon: |
Felicitations! I hope its a smooth and quick process from here on out for you... etrange: |
Depends on your CLB... Did you get ITA today? :-) etrange: |
CLB 5 or 6 - 1 point per ability CLB 7 or 8 - 3 points per ability CLB 9 or 10 - 6 points per ability etrange: |
congrats on the attestation... Did they by any chance say if Nov 24th results are ready? etrange: |
Its incredible. The TEF manual says results are sent back to the Test Centre "2-4 weeks" after receipt of the papers...from the Test Centre. Perhaps AF Lagos didn't send off the scripts immediately? princesschuks: |
njbybrthnly:Hopefully, he will confirm... |
Lagos Oct 31 results still not out? njbybrthnly: |
Je te félicite...in spite of the B1. Brilliant IELTS scores as well! Génial! Could you also let us know where you sat the exam (Lagos, PH)? And the exam date, plus when the results came out? Can't wait to read about your experience! etrange: |
Congratulations!! Bonne chance pour l'avenir... I really should thank you for all the tips, links and experiences you have shared on this thread. I wrote mine earlier this week, and your insights were truly helpful. You have my best wishes! njbybrthnly: |
Oh, that's a proper shame. I hope you were unfazed and still gave it your best shot. You have our best wishes... thanks for sharing too, because I was totally under the impression that candidates are given TEN minutes to prepare for each Part!! Incredible. ayboye: |
