After spending four years in Russia’s Yakutia, which hosts the coldest village on Earth, a Nigerian man decided to share his chilling experience online, calling his blog: “The Northest African in the World.” This brutally cold part of Russia doesn’t seem like a good place for an African-born language teacher, but Mark Babatunde is enjoying his life in Yakutia, which he now calls home.
If you wonder how the man became the “Northest African in the World” than you should know that it’s all about love. He met a Yakutian girl, Natalia, when he studied in China and decided to perform a northward journey with her.
Mark confessed to journalists that he was shocked when he arrived. “The cold was the worst thing. I wasn’t used to living like the people do here,” he said.
It’s no wonder as the average winter temperatures in Yakutia stand at minus 35 Celsius, while the winter lasts for a whole nine months. It’s also home to the village Oymyakon where a Guinness World Record of minus 71.2 Celsius was measured back in 1926.
But cheerful and expansive Mark adapted fast. He now has three kids with Natalia and a job as a teacher of Chinese and English at a school in village of Oi. His pupils absolutely adore him, saying that Babatunde is “a great teacher and person.”
A local delicacy called ‘Stroganina’ – slices of raw fish or meat served cold – has become one of Mark’s favorite treats. He also learned to speak Russian and his Yakutian is also improving by the day. In the first episode, Mark is seen sporting a giant fur coat as he rides a local woolly horse. The blogger then feeds the weird-looking animals, but the cold gets to him at some point. “My face is freezing. I have to go inside a car before I go down,” the man shouts as he flees to take shelter.
Mark’s video was pretty well filmed and included some breathtaking views of Yakutia’s scenery, so we’ll be eagerly awaiting his new clips.
BillGoldberg: It seems like the Nurses dropped you on your head when they gave birth to you. Is your brain misfiring? Why are you attacking me like that? Anyway, I dont blame you.
I only blame your hopeless father that impregnated your mother standing up. Your useless mother should have done the world a huge favour by killing you at birth and keeping your placenta.. As evidence that God once gave her an imbeccile as a son.
Am not the person that made your father so poor that he refused to train you to be useful in life. When my father was hustling, your wretched father was busy playing draft under a village mango tree in Ogbomosho. That your father is an armed robber doesnt mean you will end up as one. Son, try and be useful in life. SARS killed your brother, your sister did abortion 9 times, Your mother is in Prison for petty theft, your father is a village drunkard and a derelict. Must you end up like them?
If you were my brother, I would have electrocuted you tonight. You are better dead than alive.
Alaye don't allow me to place a curse on you. Because if I do, your dicck will always stay erect FOREVER never to fall. I will make sure you never use toilet again till you die. Oloriribuku. Ewu nwuru anwu.
If you are on the road now, I pray God in his infinite goodness will make you sleep on the steering and park your car on top speed under a Dangote trailer. May it be an eternal parking that you will never wake up from in the mighty name of Jesus.. Amen.
Please do the needful below.... Bastarrd.. Useless, Foolish man.. I pray you end up a Cadaver for tests in Lasuth. You don't wanna mess with me.
nitigriti: They are still here with us, if you know you know. But seriously, you need to understand that business advice is given here in anectodal manner, but it's advice that should be taken seriously. Note that conversing anectodally is the culture, not just on this thread, but on Nairaland generally; and of course, in the Nigerian society.
No offence meant, please.
If they are still here then it's a huge shame for them to be anonymous after the big speeches and bragging rights.
izora: Good evening everyone. I am a driver on Uber and taxify looking for a partner to work with. I can pick/drop the car at partner's house on daily basis. Pls call me on 08133771888
Do not let the opinions of the so called top folks on this thread make you feel discouraged. Someone will negotiate with you regardless.
And to everyone making this man feel bad with your insensitive replies, please grow up and learn to provide guidance and support in a respectable manner and not the proud condescending manner you lots are quick to dish out.
There are many silent folks here who actually do the real driving. Who are you to know the level of desperation that pushed him to offer such a deal.
I won't say much but you so called ehailing experts, remember how the previous thread gods came crashing...
Ehiscotch: Nonsense. Do you think massive looting over 16 years would never have an effect? The finance minister even warned GEJ that the economy was about to experience recession if they didn't save. Did they save? Where are the critical infrastructure that should have been put in place during the rainy day? When oil prices were shooting up and other countries were busy fixing their problems what were we doing? Why couldn't state governors pay salaries? Because allocation dropped; revenue dropped and kept dropping. You think owing months of salaries would not affect the economy?
Yes. There is corruption in this government (like any other government in the world) but the PDP would have been worse.
Wrong info.
Jonathan wanted to save, his minister for economy, Okonjo brought it up but people like Ameachi, Oshiomole and other governors were against it.
“I’m coming back from a very useless party called APC … I am proud to become part and parcel of PDP again … As we progress I’ll tell you all their secrets” he said.
This got me
Political children.
I don't like APC but what this man said is stupid. Do the do and stop behaving like Oshiomole with mouth diarrhea
For those shouting that the party has not brought a candidate.
Candidacy is electoral and not imposed like some parties are uselessly doing. Not mentioning names o.
Wait for PDP to do their primaries and let them vote on who to present them instead of putting the cart before the horse.
You know this particular political step Nah, unless you are already completely hypnotized and brainwashed to believe only one man is capable of ruling. If that's the case with you then good luck with that kind of ideology.
Personally, a platform where many political heavyweights are ready to slug it out in primaries shows that they believe they can get a fairer playing ground as against what the other party plans to do by imposing the incumbent president despite health weakness, controlled by cabal, government within government, fighting perceived enemies, media wars and little progress on ground.
Those calling Saraki names are low on comprehension and cooking sense.
What's the difference between what he said and what he is saying now about Tinubu.
Use your brain for once nah, stop with these una orgasmic mouth diarrhea by calling Saraki names just because he refuses to play the same ball game with all those slowpokes.
The man is smart and competent
Have you heard of any cabal controlling him like they controlled Jonathan and Buhari?
kelvd4real: What's your definition of competency? Please educate us on his achievements as the Senate President of the 8th Senate.
Let me remind you of some of his promises when he took office: 1. Open NASS: i.e to instill transparency in the accounts and earning of the Senate. 2. Speedy passage of the budget (Which coincidentally is the number one function of NASS) 3. Work with the Federal government to bring the much-needed change to Nigerians. 4. Reduce the Senate budget
Please tell us without sentiments, which of these 4 promises was fulfilled by him.
I mean, if we say Buhari is not competent, we should aspire for a better candidate. Except it's a case of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend".
The NASS is a representative of the people and not an agency to rubber stamp budget from the executive. Speedy passage of the budget is not a function of NASS. I'm above all those una propaganda OK.
Go and find someone else that's gullible.
They asked a question, I answered. Why disrupt my answer. Why not answer yours and let peace reign.
From your reply, I'm positive you are a Buhari APC person. Good for you.
I support Saraki. Jump into the lagoon of that hurts your feelings.
All the reasons you mentioned shows you want a puppet rubber stamping Senate and that's a disaster.
The executive is useless, legislative is trying, same for judiciary. Every Nigerian knows this.
I repeat, Saraki is competent. 200% more competent than the executives including all ministers including the president and vice.

You have your point of views, I have mine. Stay on your lane and leave me in peace. I don't have time for nonsense. As if the APV achieved any promises or even made the country worse. Stay away from me, no time for bad energy
Corrinthians: He could seal deals yet couldn't seal his victory in an election in which he was the incumbent.
Funny man.
Whatever he is, Osinbajo, even by the confession of his worst enemies and detractors, the PDP supporters, have proven what an ineffectual vice president and Ag President Jonathan was. Under ten days, Osinbajo has accomplished what he (Jonathan) failed to accomplish in SEVEN YEARS!
Thank God we did away with him and his accolites. They damn well would've sold this country to Haiti for a nickel. Corrupt bunch of fellows.
Do us a favor. Kindly list and compare their accomplishments. Add that of Buhari too.
Racoon: A crack has emerged in APC Senate Caucus over the selection of Ahmad Lawan (APC, Yobe) against Senator Godswill Akpabio (APC, Akwa Ibom) as replacement of Senate President Bukola Saraki, Daily Trust has gathered. Sources at the Tuesday meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Assembly caucus with the National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, said two camps have emerged.
It was gathered that at the previous meeting, Lawan was endorsed as Saraki’s replacement and Sunny Ogbuoji (APC, Ebonyi) was selected as replacement for Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu.
The endorsements led to collation of signatures for the impeachment of Saraki and Ekweremadu. The move followed Saraki’s defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).The Tuesday meeting was held behind closed doors at the Sheraton Hotel, Abuja.
A lawmaker said the agenda of the meeting was to look into the crisis between the federal lawmakers and state governors, but that the focus was purely on how to effect leadership change at the Senate.
Three senators; two from the Northwest and one from Northeast (a female) supported the position of the rep. The two senators from the Northwest narrated their ordeals in the hands of their governors. One of them traced the genesis of his feud with his governor to when he supported Lawan in 2015 at the inauguration of the Senate.
The plights of Senator Babajide Omoworare, Soji Akanbi and Yahaya Abdullahi were also raised at the meeting. “A senator lamented that the trio were punished by Saraki because of Lawan. He said when Lawan became the Senate Leader he did nothing to address the situation,” the source said “They are in total support of the removal of Saraki and Ekweremadu but the argument is the issue of Lawan. People are now canvassing for Akpabio because he sacrificed his seat (minority leader) for APC. “What we are saying now is that the two should be allowed to campaign and senators should be allowed to select their leaders. Lawan should not be forced on us,” he said.
Reminded that the party requires 2/3 to change Saraki, he said “We are not talking of number now. The problem is how to resolve who replaces them at the end of the day.” At the end of the meeting, Oshiomhole promised that all the issues raised would be looked into.
