dataking: You are on point Boss. In fact, I did some more research after you mentioned that and 2v Battery systems are recommended for large setups.
But I simply want to keep my setup simple, just 4 200Ah batteries. I will share some images as well so you can help me decide.
I am still undecided about 24v or 48v inverter choice as idle power consumption was mentioned earlier for the 48volts.
Please which of the series diagram is the best for running 4 batteries in Series.
Thanks so much. I never got an answer. Please your recommendation and advice is needed

earthrealm: I no gree.... majority of them are gel batts, and gel bats as we all know, are unforgiving if overchared/using higher than recommended voltage to charge them. once you get this right/most smart inverters&CC have gel setting. and ensure your charging system is at least c/10 capable..or maybe c/20, you are good to go You are on point Boss. earthrealm: hmmmmmmmmmm, kindly educate me on the charging wahala of 2v batts. hope you are aware, you string them in series for 12v/24v systems Seems it needs precise charging and most of these Chinese inverters can’t charge it properly. Good setup if using Magnum and all. It’s not as forgiving and robust as 12v batteries. |

earthrealm: there are 2v/800ah batts, 6v/400ah batts etc...batts doesnt start and end with 12v/200ah. 2v batts are the best, if you can afford it, followed by 6v My Oga, I don’t like 2v charging wahala. Even the gurus mostly go for 12v batteries. |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by dataking: 1:08pm On Nov 08, 2019 |
Quick question.
1. Does a 48volt inverter require 8 batteries? 2. Between 8pcs of 12v 100Ah or 4pcs of 12v 200Ah, which is best considering the fact that one of the batteries might get bad in the long run requiring all the batteries to be replaced.
Thanks My Ogas |

ojeysky: One more con of GK is that due to its high Voc (which is a Pro) it means you need to wire lots of panel in series and that means that all the panels must clear sight on sunshine. So you may factor that in, because if one of the panels does not Hervest good sunshine it will affect all the strings. All the best as you make your choice Thank you so much Sir. |

ojeysky: You can check their documentation at their website below. A few differences: GK: Batteryless, and high Voc, 3KVA has 80amps charge controller, support 4000W panel MK: Parallel support, zero switching delay, low VOC, 3kva has 60amps charge controller, support 1500w panel
https://www.mppsolar.com/v3/pip-mk-series/
Regards Thanks a lot Sir. I will opt for the GK. |

earthrealm: 3kva should be ok for you, lower idle power consumption and cheaper too. i hope it has adjustable charging current knob, that way you can limit the charging current to 40amps max, if the 5kw has that setting, and you dont mind the possible extra idle power consumption and cost...then go for the 5kw incase of future expansion. the surge rating is a bit low x 2 ie 6kw for 3kw inverter, so may not be able be use say a 2hp sumo or AC?,....wch is even wrong on 4 batts
i contacted the seller, and they said they would knock off 40usd from the shipping fee, if i pay tru paypal.... but i no gree, as i wont be covered by aliexpress buyer protection if i do so..
they however hv not clarified if the inverter/cc tracks and keeps daily harvest logs, do you have any idea as per this harvest log isssh?? I am not really concerned about harvest log for now though I understand why you need it. My wife orders from China and has a Chinese shipper, I intend to use that. I certainly don’t need it for powering water pumps. I can simply use Gen for that if the need arises. Best is to buy a LG Inverter AC. 2hp is damn too much on batteries. I certainly do not fancy such. |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by dataking: 4:51pm On Oct 25, 2019 |
earthrealm: been eyeing the inverter for sometime too, it makes a lot of sense. only thing i am yet to ascertain is if it stores harvest logs. kindly let us know how it goes, if you decide to pull the trigger Thanks Earthrealm, I am torn between getting this or a 5kw 48volt. As an ardent follower of this thread, I have seen Ogas recommend 48volt inverters a lot. I don’t intend to run more than 4pcs of 200Ah Varta batteries as I am currently using a Varta Battery that has served me consistently for close to 5yrs. Do you think this is optimal for my need or the 48volt would be best. Thanks |

NiyiOmoIyunade: Put a DC Clamp meter around the +ve or -ve battery cable with the AC loads disconnected - adjust or compensate appropriately if your meter is sensitive to the direction of current flow.
Amps × Battery Voltage will give you how many watts are being consumed.
The GK series inverter is transformerless so barring any superior engineering should likely have less idle consumption than a transformer based inverter. Which is best, transformerless or transformer based? Also, what about noise Factor. I don’t like noise. |

In Nigeria the tariff is also 25naira per kwh. So where is the difference. Individuals even buy transformers and pole.. Individuals buy infrastructure just to get this electricity. Yet they still pay bills.. So Nigerians are trying.. Our power guys really need to step up Don’t mind that idiot |
