Ok We keep hearing 'witch hunt' anytime a big political shot is picked up because he/she embezzles the nations money. Most of the justification is 'why is fashola not probed'? What of Ameachi? What of Tinubu? But what most of those raising these argument fail to observe that almost all the money investigated is FG money and Not, i reapeat N-O-T any states funds. From the $2.7 billion dasuki arms gate money https://www.nairaland.com/2744442/buhari-orders-arrest-dasuki-others The $115 million Diezani - fidelity bank funds https://www.nairaland.com/3126307/nnamdi-okonkwo-re-arrested-efcc-fresh The N4.7 billion Obanikoro election/pocket rigging (Ekiti state and osun state electioneering funds) http://pulse.ng/local/arms-deal-fraud-efcc-traces-n1-5bn-to-ex-finance-minister-s-son-id4800458.html The $40million GEJ cousin funds https://www.nairaland.com/3194517/dasuki-said-should-give-jonathans The ex-chief of air staff N21billion arms funds Alex badehs N558 million monthly pocket money. https://www.nairaland.com/3190614/efcc-seizes-properties-amosu-adigun FFK's N47billion fund http://saharareporters.com/2016/06/28/complete-list-charges-against-femi-fani-kayode-n46-billion-fraud All hav a common denominator, they are sourced from the FG's coffers. So next time you want to question the rationale behind EFCC arrest ask yourself wether the fund in question belongs to th The states or the FG! I am not even sure wether FG has the power to probe states about how they utilize their funds. Someone should enlighten us about this. |

Is that why they withdraw the money in cash? So becos he felt the FG cannot question him they can withdraw cash despite cash-less policy and use it to sponsor cultist and militant? |
I wondered why CBN allowed this cash withdrawals? Is cashless policy only for the masses? And zenith bank involved here too? It means zenithbank has been aiding and abetting corruption since 1900 |

Ade Adesomoju, Abuja The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is to investigate the withdrawal of over N11bn from the Rivers State Government’s account between October, 2015 and February, 2016 under the present administration of Governor Nyesom Wike. The money was allegedly withdrawn from the Rivers State Government’s account with the Central Bank of Nigeria by the Director of Finance and Administration of the state’s Government House, Mr. Kingsely Fubara, in cash. The anti-graft agency is also to probe the transfer of another sum of N1.5bn from the state’s account with the CBN to the Zenith Bank Plc account that belongs to one Mr. Samuel Anya “on or about January 27, 2016.” An EFCC source confirmed to The PUNCH that the anti-graft agency received the directive to probe what had been described as “suspicious withdrawals” from the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, sometimes in March this year. A document obtained from the source shows the alleged withdrawal of about N5.1bn by Fubara from the government’s account between October and December, 2015 in 10 tranches. The document indicated that Fubara commenced the alleged suspicious withdrawals with N1bn on October 15, 2015, and followed by another N1bn six days later on October 21, 2015. He was also said to have withdrawn N269m from the account on November 2, 2015; N300m on November 3, 2015, and N500m on November 4, 2015. In December 2015, three of such withdrawals also took place with N200m withdrawn from the account on December 12; N240m on December 22 and N460m on December 23. According to the document, Fubara also allegedly withdrew N6.1bn from the same Rivers State’s account between January 5, 2016 and February 9, 2016 in 11 tranches. Five of the withdrawals, which took place in January, 2016, in the following order: N849.5m withdrawn on January 5, 2016; N300m on January 7, 2016; N250m on January 14, 2016; N750m on January 15, 2016, and N200m on January 22, 2016. The rest of the six withdrawals in February, 2016, were N500m on February 1; N600m on February 2; N300m on February 4; N200m on February 5; N1bn on February 8; and N1.2bn on February 9. Indicating the various sums of money was in cash withdrawal, the document stated that the money was “delivered and received by Mr. Fubara.” The source added, “We were also asked to investigate the withdrawal of N1.5bn on or about January 27, 2016, by one Mr. Samuel Anya of 69B Forces Avenue, old GRA, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, from the state’s account with CBN through the transfer of the money to his account 0248922015 with Zenith Bank.” The phone number Anya was said to have left with the bank could not be reached on Wednesday and Thursday as it was switched off. But the Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Dr. Austin Tam-George, described the claim by the EFCC as another bizarre fabrication. Describing the move by the AGF as a national embarrassment, Tam-George pointed out that there seemed to be no end to the “total” erosion of the commission’s credibility as an institution of the country. He said, “It is clear that the EFCC is now a fully integrated unit of the All Progressives Congress with the sole mandate of hunting down opposition politicians and critics of the Federal Government. “When will this embarrassing media roulette they call anti-corruption fight come to an end?” All attempts to speak with the spokesman for the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, proved abortive as his phone indicated that it was switched off while a text message sent to his phone had not been responded to as of the time of filing this report on Thursday. http://punchng.com/alleged-n11bn-withdrawal-agf-orders-efcc-probe-rivers-director/ |

Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), the Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee on Anti-corruption, on Thursday said the number of corruption cases unearthed within the last nine months by anti-graft agencies was mind-boggling and unprecedented in the nation’s history. Sagay spoke in Lagos at the 2016 Lecture and Award Ceremony of the National Association of Judiciary Correspondents (NAJUC), Lagos State Chapter. The theme of the lecture is “The Judiciary, Media, Anti-graft Agencies and the Fight Against Corruption.” “The amount of corruption cases unearthed in this country in the last nine months has been unprecedented and mind-boggling, he said. “How is it possible for the welfare of Nigerians to be improved when we are digging ourselves out of a hole created by the past administration? “If this government had not taken over when it did, we would have been treading the path of Zimbabwe in terms of inflation,” Sagay said. The professor disclosed that special courts would soon be established for the prosecution of financial crimes. “My committee has concluded the drawing up of the Special Crimes Act for judges who will be specifically selected to adjudicate special crimes such as financial crimes, kidnapping, cyber crimes and drugs.” He said the committee had made various reforms that would tremendously aid the speedy dispensation of justice of high profile corruption cases in the country. Sagay said: “We have created a new manual for prosecution of financial cases which will give prosecutors a step by step process for prosecution. “We have recommended that for effective prosecution, the prosecution should be made up of a team comprising an investigator, prosecutor and other lawyers. “A series of workshops have been organised by the committee for 180 prosecutors across the country in which we brought in a number of experts to teach them how to draft charges to prevent the charges being faulted in court.” Sagay also debunked the notion that President Muhammadu Buhari was personally involved in the fight against corruption, stressing that the ongoing anti-corruption campaign was not a witch-hunt. “I am involved in the anti-corruption struggle, I have never received a call from the President giving me instructions on anything, he has assigned responsibilities and he is facing the governance of the country which is what he was elected for. “We regard corruption cases from the last administration as low hanging fruits because they are the most obvious and have the most impact in terms of resolution,” he stressed. Also speaking, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr Godwin Obla, said the judiciary was pivotal in the fight against corruption. “The institutional role of the judiciary puts it on a pedestal as a tool for social engineering which is done through the instrumentality of the court system. “The judiciary cannot remain soulless, it must connect with the values of the people in justice delivery “The adjudicatory system in Nigeria supports case law, the interpretation of statutes by judges have a role in effective justice delivery,” he said. Normal activities resumed at the Silverbird Galleria, Abuja on Thursday afternoon , hours after the premises was sealed off by the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON). But the Silverbird workers were locked out as the company’s building remained under lock and keys. The Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) had earlier in the day, announced a takeover of three of SilverBird Group businesses: Silverbird Galleria Limited, Silverbird Promotions Limited, and Silverbird Showtime Limited. All the companies are co-owned by Mr. Murray-Bruce and his brothers, Guy Murray-Bruce, Michael Murray-Bruce, as well as his son, Jonathan Murray-Bruce. The latest move by AMCON came two months after the agency, established in 2010 to manage delinquent loans of big firms and individuals, appointed Muiz Banire as the Receiver/Manager of the companies, following an alleged failure to meet up loan obligations with Union Bank of Nigeria. When our reporter visited the area, there was free movement of customers in and out of the premises, with heavy presence of security men on guard. Founder and co-owner of Silverbird Group, Ben Murray-Bruce in a reaction posted on his Twitter handle, said ‘‘ today’s development was not necessarily unusual for a company that had been in existence for over three decades. “In 36 years, Silverbird has grown and like anybody, it will face challenges. Tough times don’t last. But we, as tough people, outlast them.” Sen. Bruce, said he was in transit on an international flight when officials of Nigeria’s assets management authorities took possession of Silver Group’s properties in Lagos, Abuja and Port-Harcourt in the early hours, added that his businesses would soon be back in operation. “I have been on an international flight and have only just landed,” Mr. Murray-Bruce said. “The situation is being resolved and things will be back to normal.” Recall that Sen. Bruce, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, had said in a tweet he posted Wednesday night that President Muhammadu Buhari should consider dealing with anti-corruption and economic exigencies simultaneously. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has traced N1.310bn to some company accounts allegedly belonging to a former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore. The money was said to be part of the N4.7bn allegedly disbursed by a former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, and his two sons, Gbolahan and Babajide. The N4.7bn was said to have emanated from the account of the Office of the National Security Adviser in 2014 and then transferred to the Diamond Bank account of Sylvan McNamara, a company in which Obanikoro’s sons are the signatories to its bank account. Omisore, who has since been declared wanted by the anti-graft agency, allegedly received the funds in four tranches from Sylvan McNamara between July and August 2014, a few weeks before the Osun State governorship election which he lost. A document detailing the transaction showed that the money was paid into three company accounts allegedly belonging to Omisore. A detective at the anti-graft agency explained, “On July 9, 2014, N150m was paid into the bank account of Sawanara at First Bank. On August 1, 2014, N300m was paid into Sawanara Limited. “On August 8, 2014, about N160m was paid into the bank account of Fimex Gilt Limited domiciled at UBA. On the day of the election, August 9, 2014, N350m was paid into the First Bank account of Metropolitan Consortium.” Omisore had, however, denied receiving any money from the ONSA. Speaking in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents, on Wednesday, Omisore said the Federal Government was out to nail him and other members of the opposition at all cost. He said, “I don’t know Dasuki from Adam. I never went to his office. The Federal Government is just using the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to victimise and embarrass me. “They had said I received N600m, they later said N1.9bn, now they are saying n1.3bn. Which of these figures do they want to pin on me? They have kept shifting the goalposts at will.” The former deputy governor had also sued the EFCC for N10bn and prayed a Federal High Court in Abuja to grant him an order of perpetual injunction restraining the “defendants (the EFCC) either by themselves, their agents, officers, servants, privies or otherwise however called from making such or similar defamatory publication of and concerning the plaintiff (Omisore) to any person or persons.” Meanwhile, the sons of Obanikoro on Wednesday shunned the invitation of the EFCC. The anti-graft agency had last week stormed the home of Gbolahan and Babajide and seized the property located at 10 Mojisola Street, off Banana Island Road, Ikoyi, Lagos. http://www.punchng.com/omisore-got-n1-3bn-dasuki-funds-efcctunde-odesola-eniola-akinkuotu-economic-financial-crimes-commission-traced-n1-310bn-company-accounts-allegedly-belonging/ |

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission says it is unfortunate that Nigerians see nothing wrong with corrupt practices. The Chairman of the ICPC, Mr. Ekpo Nta, said this on Tuesday when some students of Government Secondary School, Kubwa, Abuja, visited the headquarters of the anti-graft agency. Nta, who was represented by the Head of Department, Education, Mr. Geoffrey Anumve, said instead of supporting security agencies in the fight against graft, many Nigerians were busy accusing the anti-graft agencies of witch-hunt. He said the aim of all Nigerians should be to stamp out corruption instead of bothering themselves with who was being arrested and who was not. He said, “You see one Nigerian stealing billions of naira and dollars that could have been used for education and the construction of bridges and the irony of it is that many Nigerians do not see anything bad in it. They justify it. At times, they say it is one-sided; why are you not touching this person? But we ask this question: We have so many armed robbers and kidnappers out there. Have we arrested all the robbers at the same time? It is only when one is caught that he is arrested and that is what is happening in this situation.” Nta, therefore, urged the pupils to shun corruption in every possible way. Also speaking, an official of the Education Department at the ICPC, Azuka Ogugwa, told the youths to join in the fight against corruption. She explained that acts such as examination malpractice, stealing, bullying and extortion in school, were forms of corruption. Ogugwa said, “Corruption involves illegality. Corruption is the abuse of a position of trust for personal or group benefits. It might not be financial. It might be material or through bullying or bossing people around.” http://www.punchng.com/nigerians-see-nothing-wrong-with-corruption-icpc/ |
