My Birth Story...

The journey has been really smooth right from the time I conceived, except for the food aversion in the first trimester, and back pain in the 3rd trimester. I was even able to go to work till the last day. So thankful to God for making it really easy for me...

My EDD is 8th June, 2024 according to the first scan I had. And because I had my first baby at 39wks 3days, I thought this one too should be same.

At 38wks, kept having on & off contractions which made me restless. Wanted to start maternity leave when I hit 39wks but one of my colleagues advised I wait till I delivered, so I agreed.

On Thursday, 6th June 2024, my tired was tired. I've been exercising and eating pineapple but the contractions were not consistent. I was already 39wks 5days gone. Throughout that day at work, I kept reading up about castor oil and how to induce labor with it. Even though it is said to induce labor, the reviews were not that pleasant as many complained of nausea, stooling, vomiting, and so on after taking four spoons or half a bottle.

Still went on to buy it that evening as we strolled out with DH to get the remaining hospital items. DH was not even aware o... Just told him to be buying other things in the supermarket while I get Lucozade boost in the pharmacy. I'm not even proud of this lie.

After we got home, I mixed just a spoon with hollandia yoghurt around 9:30pm and took. Around 10:30pm, I had to use the restroom as I was having stomach upset. Ghen ghen. After purging, I went back to bed. At about 12:30am, I woke up and felt like I had peed on myself...wasn't sure what it was, but I started having contractions immediately. The contractions were like 3mins apart, but mild.

I told my husband to prepare for us to go to the hospital. We went along with my friend who stays with us, and left my boy with my sister. I was hoping the contractions would progress but it was consistent like that. We got to the hospital at about 2am. I told the nurse how I was feeling and she checked me. I was like 2cm, then she decided to do a membrane sweep and told me to wait till morning when the doctors were around. As I waited in the ward, the contractions started becoming more painful. Then at about 9am after breakfast, I was taken to the labor room where the female doctor checked and said i was 4cm and did another sweep, then told the nurse to induce me. Ah. The induction began at about 10:30am to last for 3hrs. Contractions kept coming 5mins apart. Just kept playing GUC's Album to take my mind off it. My husband was later allowed in where we kept gisting till 1pm. The nurse sef was shocked. She said its as if this induction is not working oh... My husband had to leave to get some baby stuff again, and when I was checked, I was like 8cm gone but I wasn't feeling much pain from the contractions. I think the nurse broke my water or so, and that was when the drama started. At about 3pm, had to dial my husband's number to come and give me moral support oh. He came back around 3:30pm or so... The nurse told me to push when I felt the need to poo. I pooed a little and the nurse wiped it, I even peed so much it wanted to pour on her. Chai.

When I was told to push, I was using my throat. grin Guys, learn how to push oh...just do it like you want to poo. When I did that, that was when my baby popped out.

I want to thank God because at about 4:21pm, I welcomed my beautiful princess with little tear, weighing 3.40kg. The placenta was delivered immediately and the tear was stitched as well.
We were discharged the following morning.

BS submitted! smiley

I pray for all TTC mothers and all those expecting... The Lord will do it for you.

Hello mommas,

I just went through this educative thread and I'm amazed at the first hand information readily supplied here. God bless all the contributors. Please, at how many weeks is a first time mum supposed to register and start antenatal?

Congratulations!

Most clinics recommend one to be 12weeks pregnant before registering for antenatal.

However, you can continue with the use of folic acid.

Hi everyone...

Are all those painful massages given to babies during bath really necessary?

The whites don't do this and they turn out fine.

Just thought to ask.

To the mums in the ... Please, I have a question and curious as well about cravings?

I read that when one crave for sweet foods you should be expecting a girl but if you crave for salty foods you're likely to end up with a boy... How true is this??

To all the moms that have given birth to either a baby boy or girl... Can you share your experience on this?

Happy Sunday and safe delivery to the next mom(s) in line.

Not sure this tale holds...buh I ate virtually anything when I was pregnant, even though I craved for sour things more and also loved salty and pepperish plantain chips. grin Gave birth to a boy sha.

It’s so annoying they don’t allow husband in in most hospitals in Nigeria
Seriously I also want my husband to be there to see my baby life and direct and follow them to bathe him. I remember watching Toyin Abraham birth video, immediately they open her and bring the baby out the next thing she told her husband was tele omo mi(meaning follow my child) so the husband was there in the theater and followed the nurses to where they bathe him while they were stitching her up.

My husband wasn't allowed into the labor room oh... I don't even know why they did that.

Birth Story! Birth Story!! Birth Story!!!

The gist is finally here o... grin

It started when I had to resume on Monday 7th Feb to a new department at work after enjoying 32 working days compulsory annual leave. Ha! I knew my EDD was close (13th Feb), and seeing that I wanted to deliver where my husband is based, I decided to drop my maternity leave letter immediately.

The Head at my new office who is a mother of two tried to persuade me to stay till the following week before going, but I kept insisting sha. Lol. Even some female colleagues who thought I still wasn't due because of how "not so large" my tummy looked kept advising that I just stay until labor comes before I take the leave. Lailai I no gree. I was over 39weeks gone already, and this was my first pregnancy.

I finally dropped the letter on Tuesday (8th Feb). And as God would have it, it was approved for me to proceed on Wednesday. Hubby picked me up immediately, and we travelled back to his place.

On Wednesday (9th Feb) was my appointment at the clinic. I woke up with menstrual-like cramps. Went to the clinic where I related it to the doctor. She suggested a membrane sweep to hasten the labor process. I agreed to it, and it was done by a nurse there. For me, it was painless.

After the sweep, I started having mild contractions that came in like 25-30mims apart. Called hubby to take me home. We got food on the way as I wasn't in any mood to cook.

On getting home, I started cleaning the house and washing clothes. Lol. Everywhere had to be clean if my baby is going to be out this soon. Hubby called one of my cousins to come stay with me incase of anything. I laughed. We kept gisting while the contractions kept getting more frequent but mild till hubby came back from work at around 5:30pm.

When I later went to pee, I saw the bloody show. I smiled coz I knew the sweep was already working, and I'll see my baby very soon.

As I kept monitoring the contractions, it started coming in at 5mins apart lasting 30-35seconds. I kept expecting that my water would break, buh e no gree o...

At about 9:30pm, hubby suggested we head to the hospital. I agreed. On checking me, the nurses found out I was 3cm dilated and suggested I stayed back for close monitoring. I refused o... We went back home with hubby. Honestly, I couldn't even sleep that night. Did exercises, danced, took hot tea, tried watching a movie to take away my attention sef, e no work.

At 4am, I told hubby that we should go back to the hospital. We did. The nurses said I wasn't ready since I still had my wig on. grin They still checked and I was 6cm dilated. That was how I started strolling round the hospital to hasten the whole dilation process o.
At 9am, I was 9cm dilated, and my water was yet to be broken. The contractions were not so strong. Ha! That was how the doctor instructed for me to be injected with Oxytocin. People of God, the pain I felt after that eh... I don't think I'd ever wish that for even my enemy. It was so out of this world!

Strong contractions back to back. I kept wailing. Kept telling the nurses to check. They even went to their station and left me there. Until I felt the need to fart. When I screamed at them, they came rushing to check. Then another delay. They said the baby's head is yet to crown. What?! I wasn't ready for that English o... Didn't even know when I started shouting for them to take me over to the theatre for CS. They kept smiling saying "No CS for you. You are already close to having your baby." They were kind sha.

The pain was too much. I wanted to push, but they kept saying I shouldn't. So, what was I supposed to do? I was crying without tears. I was grabbing everything 'grabbable'. The nurses had to stay away before the mad dog would tear their uniforms. grin

I got tired at some point. Threw up thrice (something I'd never done before o, not even in pregnancy).
To give me some hope, the nurse made me insert my hand to touch the baby's head. I think this was done after they broke my water o... I can't even remember again. But I know I felt a rush of energy to have the baby out after that.

To cut the long story short, my beautiful Prince came out at exactly 12:25pm on 10th Feb, 2022 weighing 2.5kg. This was after five hard pushes with the little strength I had left.

The joy I felt after hearing my baby's first cry is indescribable. At that moment, all the pain I felt just vanished. There was this fresh air entering everywhere, even though I kept bleeding.

That was when I even had the time to ask the nurse her name while she delivered the placenta and stitched me up as I had tears. Got discharged the next day after close observation, to make sure I wasn't still bleeding.

Sincerely, God saw me through it all. It was never by my strength, coz I know how well my strength failed me in that labor room. My faith even turned to fear at some point, but He showed me mercy. Glory to His name.

For all TTC... The God that did it for me will surely come through for you.

Peace.

Also, be encouraged to know that the God that gave you a baby before can still do it again.

All you need now is total faith in God and patience. It shall come to pass. You will come back to testify.

Had the membrane sweep today.

It wasn't that painful when it was done. The nurse was compassionate while doing it.

I only felt a little discomfort later on, been having cramps which I assume is gradually turning to contractions, and later lost my mucus plug.

Guess its working. grin
