10. Lesotho Loti
Exchange rate: 1 USD = 19.08 LSL

We’ve made it to the list of the top ten highest currency in Africa. The loti (LSL) is the currency of the Kingdom of Lesotho in southern Africa. In terms of geographical location, Lesotho is surrounded by South Africa, and in addition, the country is economically integrated with it. The South African rand is also accepted as legal tender in this region.

The economy of the country is largely based on agriculture, manufacturing, mining, and services. Lesotho is known for its textile and garment industry. It is also exploring its diamond and water resources. As for global trade, Lesotho is a member of the Southern African Customs Union (SACU).

9. Namibian Dollar
Exchange rate: 1 USD = 19.08 NAD

The Namibian dollar (NAD) is the currency of Namibia, a country located in southwestern Africa. The NAD is pegged to the South African rand at a fixed exchange rate (1 ZAR = 1 NAD). However, the rate still fluctuates slightly, usually at ± 0.01. Namibia’s economy is focused on mining, manufacturing, agriculture, and tourism.

Namibia is one of the poorest countries in Africa, with an unemployment rate of over 20%. As the country possesses mineral resources such as diamonds, uranium, copper and gold, Namibia’s economy relies heavily on income from the export of commodities.

8. Zambian Kwacha
Exchange rate: 1 USD = 18.6 ZMW

The Zambian kwacha (ZMW) is the official currency of Zambia, a country located in southern Africa. The kwacha replaced the pound sterling in 1968 when Zambia gained independence from Britain. Although the ZMW is one of the strongest currencies in Africa, it’s not often traded. This is due to inflation and volatility over time.

Zambia is Africa’s largest copper producer, so its currency fluctuates in response to changes in global copper market commodity prices. The country produces maize, tobacco, cotton, and soybeans. There are developing industries focused on textiles, food and beverages, and building materials.

7. Eritrean Nakfa
Exchange rate: 1 USD = 15.0 ERN

The Eritrean nakfa (ERN) is the legal tender of Eritrea, a country located in the Horn of Africa. Over the years, the nakfa was stable due to the Eritrean government’s preference for a fixed exchange rate.

Eritrea is an agricultural country with plenty of fertile land to grow crops like sorghum, millet, wheat, and barley. The demand for food is always high, which ensures rapid growth of the economy. Bisha Mine, one of the largest gold and copper mines in Africa, is also located in Eritrea.

13. São Tomé & Príncipe Dobra
Exchange rate: 1 USD = 22.5 STN

The currency called the São Tomé & Príncipe dobra (STN) is the legal tender of São Tomé and Príncipe Island, located off the west coast of Central Africa. While the island was colonised by the Portuguese between 1470 and 1975, escudos were used.

The country’s economy is heavily reliant on cocoa and palm oil production. Today, it is changing thanks to investments in oil development in the Gulf of Guinea waters. Other important sectors are fishing, tourism, and services.

12. South African Rand
Exchange rate: 1 USD = 19.21 ZAR

The South African rand (ZAR) is the most widely traded legal tender in Africa. South Africa’s economy is increasingly integrated into the global economy. Several countries in the region, including Lesotho, Namibia, and Eswatini, have pegged their currencies to the South African rand.

The value of the ZAR is linked to the price of gold, South Africa’s main export. South Africa’s economy depends on various sectors such as mining, tourism and financial services. However, the political situation in South Africa is unstable, which causes changes in exchange rates.

11. Eswatini Lilangeni
Exchange rate: 1 USD = 19.12 SZL

The Eswatini Lilangeni (SZL) is the official currency of the Kingdom of Eswatini (former Swaziland), located in southern Africa. The country is largely dependent on its neighbour – South Africa. All imports and 75% of its exports come from or pass through South Africa.

Manufacturing accounts for 37% of Eswatini’s GDP, then come agriculture, forestry and mining, which account for about 13%. The country is renowned for its crop production, including sugarcane, maise, and citrus fruits. The country benefits from the African Growth and Opportunity Act, which gives it duty-free access to the US market.

16. Mauritian Rupee
Exchange rate: 1 USD = 45.3 MUR

The Mauritian rupee, the MUR, is the official legal tender of the Republic of Mauritius. The rupee is mostly used for domestic financial operations. From an economic perspective, Mauritius is the second-richest state in Africa.

The Mauritian economy is based on sugar and salt production, tourism and the textile industry. Currently, the country is developing the offshore business, ICT, and the fishing and fish processing industries.

15. Mauritanian Ouguiya
Exchange rate: 1 USD = 34.4 MRU

The currency of Mauritania is the Mauritanian ouguiya, the MRU. The country is located in northwest Africa. The economy of Mauritania is, for the most part, based on agriculture and livestock. The MRU is one of the two currencies circulating within the country; the second one is the Malagasy ariary.

Mauritania has sizable mineral resources, the main focus being iron ore, which accounts for almost 50% of all exports. Gold and copper are also mined in the country. Agriculture employs most of the population; however, this sector is vulnerable to climate change and droughts. The fishing industry is developed thanks to the extensive coastline along the Atlantic Ocean.

14. Egyptian Pound
Exchange rate: 1 USD = 30.9 EGP

The Egyptian pound (EGP) is Egypt’s official currency. Egypt is a densely populated country located in the northeast of Africa. Until 2001, the pound was backed by precious metals, but the currency has now moved to a floating exchange rate.

Egypt’s banking sector is one of the largest in Africa. The EGP is used as an unofficial currency in Sudan and the Gaza Strip. It’s one of the most valuable in Africa, as Egypt has the second-highest nominal GDP on the continent. The economy is based on tourism and services (49%) and agriculture (25%).

19. Mozambican Metical
Exchange rate: 1 USD = 63.8 MZN

The Mozambican metical is the currency of Mozambique, the country on the southeastern coast of Africa. During the colonial era, the Mozambican escudo was used in the country. It was later replaced by the old metical (MZM), which was then changed to the new metical (MZN).

A large part of the population is engaged in the agricultural sector. The country produces cotton, sugar cane, tobacco, and tea. Mozambique has vast natural resources that include gas, coal, and titanium. This developing country is of interest to foreign investors.

18. Gambian Dalasi
Exchange rate: 1 USD = 59.7 GMD

The Gambia is a small country located in West Africa. Its currency, the Gambian dalasi (GMD), is not very strong. The economy of this emerging nation is heavily dependent on agriculture, as the Gambia doesn’t have many mineral resources or oil.

The country has a well-developed tourism industry and great coastal resorts, so many people work in the service sector. Other industries include food production and textile manufacturing.

17. Ethiopian Birr
Exchange rate: 1 USD = 54.5 ETB

The Ethiopian birr (ETB) is the currency of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. This is a poorly developed agrarian country, and agriculture plays a major role in its economy. The ETB is primarily used for transactions within Ethiopia, as it’s not widely traded outside the country.

Ethiopia has one of the fastest-growing economies globally. The banking, telecom, and transport sectors are dominated by state-owned companies. The country is renowned for its coffee and cereal production.
TravelList Of Strongest Currencies In Africa by DaveHarry(op): 12:05pm On Jul 25, 2023
There are 54 countries on the African continent, and ten of them are the most undeveloped countries in the world. The continent’s currencies don’t take key positions in the global rankings; however, several legal tenders are widely traded in the currency market.

Have you ever wondered which country has the highest currency in Africa?

List of Strongest Currencies in Africa

Here is a list of the top 20 highest currencies in Africa. The United States dollar continues to serve as the worldwide standard for assessing currencies. Therefore, this ranking of the most robust currencies in Africa is set against the US dollar.

20. Cape Verdean Escudo
Exchange rate: 1 USD = 101.4 CVE

The weakest legal tender in this top-20 currency ranking in Africa is the Cape Verdean escudo (CVE). This is the currency of Cape Verde, also known as Cabo Verde, located on the northwest coast of Africa. The current exchange rate of the CVE to 1 US dollar is over one hundred escudos.

The CVE was put into circulation to replace the previous currency, the Cape Verde real. Although Cape Verde is a small island state and has a cheap currency, its economy is relatively stable, with a strong emphasis on services and tourism.

The price of arrogance is that you see past your shortcomings while others you look down upon grow even better. As someone that have been to Benin republic, I completely agree with the poster.

Only that for Nigerians, abroad have to be when they live with white people. Of course you should move to the West, but if that's not attainable, then neighbouring countries ain't bad either. Ivory Coast is also a good one and even better than Benin.

If your idea of a good life is good roads, security, safety, sane citizen and be contented with the basics of life, to run your business in peace, and can achieve Self-actualisation with hard work, then lots of countries within Africa offers that.

SportsSurprise, Surprise! PSG Accept World-record €300m Bid For Wantaway Kylian Mbappe by DaveHarry(op): 7:46pm On Jul 24, 2023
Paris Saint-Germain have accepted a €300 million (£259m/$332m) bid for wantaway Kylian Mbappe from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal.

PSG are unsurprisingly open to a sale at that price, with the offer including the potential for the striker to earn a €700m (£604m/$775m) salary for a year before he potentially moves to Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer. Mbappe had informed PSG he intended to see out his contract and move on a free upon the expiry of his contract once the season ends, but AFP now reports that that the Saudi Pro League club have been given permission to negotiate with him.

PSG have been attempting to find a way to receive a fee for Mbappe this summer, to the point of considering allowing him to leave on loan. As a result, it is little surprise they have accepted a world-record offer for the World Cup winner. PSG have previously told the player that he must either accept a new contract - with a 10-year offer from the French club worth €1 billion (£864m/$1.1bn) on the table - or be sold in this window.

It remains to be seen if Mbappe will be willing to move to Saudi Arabia, even if it just for a season, and it appears that the move will rely wholly on the striker giving the green light. He has continually maintained he only wants to move to Real.

EducationSchool Fees Increase: Don’t Snuff Life Out Of Us, Parents Urge Tinubu by DaveHarry(op): 7:55am On Jul 24, 2023
Parents, under the aegis of the National Parent Teacher Association of Nigeria, NAPTAN, have called on President Bola Tinubu to apply the brake to the spate of increments in tuition fees and others by government-owned schools.

The parents said life was being snuffed out of them as a result of such increases in almost all sectors, such as fuel, electricity and now school fees.

The parents said life was being snuffed out of them as a result of such increases in almost all sectors, such as fuel, electricity and now school fees.

According to them, the increases are becoming too many and pouring on the citizens like heavy rainfall.

Speaking in a chat with Vanguard yesterday, the Deputy National President of NAPTAN, Adeolu Ogunbanjo, urged the President to, as a matter of urgency, put a stop to the tuition fee hike in public schools.

“It is unfortunate. We support the President regarding the removal of the oil subsidy, but it does not mean everything should just be hiked at the same time.

”You still want to remove subsidy on electricity, and also hike tuition fees at the same time. That will be too killing on parents and their children.

“The President should by tomorrow, mandate schools to revert to their old fees. They should not snuff the life out of parents and their children.

“The President should by tomorrow, mandate schools to revert to their old fees. They should not snuff the life out of parents and their children.

”He should temper justice with mercy. The moment the government increases fees payable in its schools, others will follow – the state governments and private school owners. He should just stop it,” he stated.

Giving advice to the President on how to bring down the cost of fuel in Nigeria, Ogunbanjo said though licenses had been given to some importers to bring in fuel, the solution did not lie in that step.

He said: “Prices of petroleum products would still continue to be on the high side as long as they are imported and the process is dollar-denominated.

Kylian Mbappe told PSG in June he had no intention of signing contract extension and is now prepared to let it run down; Mbappe's current deal expires in 2024 and PSG say he must extend or be sold this summer; PSG only want players committed to club on tour and have left Mbappe at home

Mbappe was not included in the squad for PSG's pre-season tour to Japan and South Korea, which departs on Saturday, with the club making it clear they only want players on the tour who are committed, want to be at the club and that no player is more important than the club.

However, Mbappe's immediate reaction to that decision is that he is ready to sit on the bench and not play at PSG until his contract runs out next summer.

Being France captain and with the Euros coming up next summer doesn't alter his thinking.

He is willing to dig his heels in and sacrifice a season and there is nothing PSG can do about it. He is ready to call their bluff and see who blinks first.

Despite PSG's tough stance, ultimately they will have to pay him his wages and bonus until he leaves for nothing next summer.

PSG are convinced Mbappe has already agreed to join Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer, a move that is viewed as a huge betrayal after he said he would never leave for free.

The club sought clarity from Mbappe when training resumed this month but nothing has been communicated by the player.

PSG, therefore, assume Mbappe wants to leave for free and plans for life without him must begin, starting with their pre-season tour of the Far East.

Mbappe is now for sale and the club will engage with suitors, of which there are many who have been waiting for developments.

PSG's six summer signings will be travelling to Japan and South Korea, together with the new coach Luis Enrique and all the positively-motivated squad.

SportsAC Milan Reach Agreement With Villarreal For Chukwueze by DaveHarry(op): 3:34am On Jul 22, 2023
La Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that Milan have reached a final agreement with Villarreal over the price for Nigeria international Samuel Chukwueze, who could now officially join the Rossoneri in the coming days.

According to Gazzetta’s report, Milan have agreed to pay a total package of €28m for Chukwueze, made up of €20m up front and €8m in bonuses.

The 24-year-old will reportedly sign a four-year contract at San Siro, valid until teh end of the 2026-27 season, having already agreed upon personal terms as per Calciomercato.com.

At present, Chukwueze has just one year remaining on his contract with Villarreal, hence why they are willing to cash in on him this summer rather than letting him leave for free in 12 months time.

Gazzetta also claim that Chukwueze’s move will now be pushed through as quickly as possible with an official announcement expected over the weekend, or by Monday at the latest.

Milan are hopeful that Chukwueze will then be able to join Stefano Pioli and the rest of the Rossoneri squad in the United States to take part in the team’s pre-season tour.

So far this summer, Milan have already brought in Marco Sportiello, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Luka Romero, Christian Pulisic and Tijjani Reijnders, as well as having Noah Okafor on the ground ready for a medical, meaning that Chukwueze would likely be the team’s seventh signing of the summer.

SportsOnana Makes History As He Becomes First African Goalkeeper To Be Man Utd No.1 by DaveHarry(op): 7:33pm On Jul 20, 2023
Manchester United have officially announced the signing of goalkeeper Andre Onana on a permanent deal from Inter.

The 27-year-old has signed a five-year deal at Old Trafford, committing his future to United until the summer of 2028.

Onana joined on a free transfer last July following the expiry of his contract with Ajax, where he had played since 2016. Five of those years were spent playing under current United coach Erik ten Hag.

It is believed by multiple outlets that United will have paid Inter around €55m for Onana’s services, made up of €51m up front and €4m in achievable bonuses.

Over the course of the 2022-23 season, Onana made 41 appearances across all competitions for the Nerazzurri, including 24 in Serie A. He also made three appearances on Inter’s way to lifting the Coppa Italia.

Onana also made 13 appearances in a memorable Champions League campaign for Inter, which culminated in an appearance in the final for the first time since 2010, eventually losing out to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

In a statement released on United’s club website, Onana said: “To join Manchester United is an incredible honour and I have worked hard all my life to get to this moment, overcoming many obstacles along the way.

“Walking out at Old Trafford to defend our goal and contribute to the team will be another amazing experience. This is the start of a new journey for me, with new teammates, and new ambitions to fight for.

“Manchester United has a long history of incredible goalkeepers, and I will now give everything to create my own legacy in the coming years.

“I am excited by the opportunity to work again with Erik ten Hag, and I can’t wait to play my part in the success I know he is determined to deliver at this great football club.”

Onana, ten Hag and the United squad will fly out for a pre-season tour of the United States before getting their 2023-24 Premier League campaign underway with a visit from Wolves on August 14.
