One of Google's self-driving cars hit a bus in Mountain View earlier this month, marking the first accident in which one of the company's robotic vehicles appears to be have been at fault. While Google's self-driving cars have been in various fender benders over the years, the accidents have until now always been the fault of other drivers or of the human drivers who occasionally take control of the Google cars, according to the company's previous self-driving car reports. https://static2.businessinsider.com/image/56d491b66e97c623008ba65e-4608-3456/gettyimages-486281987.jpg But in this incident, which took place on Valentine's Day, the Google car hit the side of a public-transit bus — albeit very slowly. While approaching the intersection of El Camino Real and Castro Street in Mountain View, the car stopped to avoid some sandbags around a storm drain. When it tried to merge back into the left lane, it struck trouble. "After a few cars passed, the Google AV began to proceed back into the center of the lane to pass the sand bags," reads a report by California's DMV about the incident. It continued: A public transit bus was approaching from behind. The Google AV test driver saw the bus approaching in the left side mirror but believed the bus would stop or slow to allow the Google AV to continue. Approximately three seconds later, as the Google AV was reentering the center of the lane it made contact with the side of the bus. The Google car, a modified Lexus SUV, was traveling at less than 2 mph, and the bus was moving at about 15 mph. There were no injuries reported at the scene, although the Google car did damage its front left fender, wheel, and one of its sensors. Google's self-driving cars are currently prototypes that the company is testing, and they are not available to the general public. A spokesperson with the Valley Transportation Authority says that there was only minor damage to the bus. This is the fifth accident that Google's self-driving cars have gotten into on El Camino Real, as journalist Mark Harris points out on Twitter: It's a big deal because El Camino is one of the few busy, complex roads in Mountain View, otherwise mostly sleepy side streets — Mark Harris (@meharris) February 29, 2016 If Google cars are getting into so much trouble on El Camino, it doesn't bode well for scaling its self-driving tech to busier denser cities — Mark Harris (@meharris) February 29, 2016 The accident closely follows a big win for Google. US regulators decided earlier this month that the artificial-intelligence system controlling its car counts as a "driver." Google was not immediately available for comment, but in a statement to engadget the company said that "we clearly bear some responsibility" for the accident. |

The memory cards, which were worth nearly 100,000 yuan (15,270 US dollars), were taped to his body. Femi Makinde, Osogbo An Osun State Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a 26-year-old carpenter Ismaila Alani, to three months imprisonment for stealing a sum of N250. The magistrate, Mr. Olusola Aluko, while delivering the judgment on Tuesday ordered that Alani should spend the next three months at Ilesa Prison or pay a fine of N2,500. The convict could not pay the fine and he was taken prison. The prosecutor, Elisha Olusegun, had told the court that Alani snatched a purse from Mrs. Sanusi Odunola and stole the money from there. The prosecutor added that the act caused a public disturbance. The prosecutor told the court that the two offences of stealing and causing of disturbance of the public peace were contrary to and punishable under Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria. Alani pleaded guilty to the two counts and begged for clemency while promising not to get himself involved in any criminal act again.
