TravelRe: Should I Move To The UK Or Return To Nigeria? by Daviddj(m): 8:08am On May 14, 2019
As a Nigerian professional in the UK, you have a better chance of getting a professional role in the UK if you move here.

Since you will need to rely on a spousal visa, you have no other alternative to come to the UK.

On a more serious note, if your proposed wife was born and raised in the UK, there is a high probability that she will never behave like the typical Nigerian wife ( cook, clean, being receptive to your family members, house chores etc).

You have a choice to make here. If she is from a good family, you can teach her loads of our traditional Nigerian values while in the marriage but be rest assured the marriage MUST last for 5yrs before you can be granted a permanent residence.
TravelRe: The Adventures Of A New UK Migrant by Daviddj(m): 11:26am On Dec 21, 2017
UKmigrant:
Tomorrow, I'll be going to FRSC office to make enquiries about how I can speedily process my international drivers licence. I learnt that one could use it to drive in the UK in the first year of arrival. At least I'll have one year to practice driving on their roads before going for their ''not easy to pass'' driving tests. I currently still have a valid Nigerian driver's licence expiring next month. I hope I won't need to renew it first before my international driving permit can be valid.

Anyone with an idea of the requirements for obtaining an international driver's licence in Nigeria and how the whole driving thing works in the UK? Do I still need to register with DVLA first before I can use it?
Driving License in UK is straight forward. You need to pass a theory test which is a multiple based test and Practical Test- which is driving on the road for about 1hr. Everyone had their own challenges in passing the Practical Test. You should be fine.

I am only concerned that you need to settle down first, get your own house (No one is going to keep you in their house for too long) and start adding value at work.

If you don’t perform in a job that sponsored your visa, it can never be renewed. So the Car stuff will place huge pressure on your finances.

A cheap and manageable OLD car will cost you at least £2000. Insurance (£140 monthly as a new driver), Mot, Road tax (£240 yearly).

Just settle down first and others stuff can be sorted out.

Anyways, I like your determination and resilience to move here. I have lived here for 11yrs and started out as a student and working now as an Assistant Vice President in a global bank. It ain’t gonna be rosy but just be resilient and you will survive.
CrimeRe: Uber Drivers Arrested For Robbing Women At Night In Lagos by Daviddj(m): 9:55am On Oct 04, 2017
ifyain:
It is not only in Nigeria for God,s sake , Uber drivers do rape women even here in London and rob their customers too. Cheap things are not always the best, as the saying goes what you paid is what you get!!
I think you just lied! I live in London and Uber drivers don’t rape or rob their victims.

Their current travails in London has nothing to do with rape or robbery. It’s all political.

The black cabs feels it’s their birthright to keep on charging outrageous fares. Uber only got into London to turn the tables around.

Please get your facts right.

@ibogurl

Dont know why you have to take your grievance on lawyer, when he is merely trying to warn those vulnerable in our midst from fradulent omoniles. I can assure you that he is a reliable person whose integrity has been tested personally. If you must know, Lawyer saved my ass in a land transaction that would have cost me a loss of 6.5m naira even though l dont live in Nigeria.I think people like ibogurrl is on cheap crack and should even sharrrapp their smelling guts.

TravelRe: At Last I Have Been Granted A Visa by Daviddj(m): 11:49pm On Sep 06, 2007
It is obvious that this Udejzi guy is a big joker. How can someone that profess he has got a visa ask us to advice him on the course he wants to study and he has to prove to the house when did the U.K embassy start giving 4yrs student visa for 3yrs courses (undergraduate) or 18months( masters). Well,if you are actually coming to the U.K,do not be deceived that it is rossy here. You have to be prepared to engage in so many dehumanising jobs just to make a living.Well, l am in the U.K studying and will not blame 'Paw-Paw' for saying its all abt packing shit. But,there are more better degrading jobs than that.Be fully prepared.

EducationRe: Universities In The UK by Daviddj(m): 1:57pm On Jan 21, 2007
@4play, i think you need divine attention for you to assume that London Metropolitan University, which is the largest in London has a bad reputation.I believe as intellectuals,we are not suppose to open our mouth to say irrelevant things, more especially, when we cannot back what we say with relevant facts. Moreso,as a point of correction,London Met was formed as a result of the merger between University of North London and London Guildhall.Personally,l live in london, and l can rightly say that London Met is a nice University, has standards, and recently built the best Science laboratory in the U.K

I want to thank all nairalanders for this thread.I also applied for a student Visa, but l was denied too, after paying a deposit of 4500 pounds for school fees and 350 pounds for accomodation fees.Although,l have reapplied again, and also l had to change my sponsor now since they complained about my previous sponsor, which they said that there was not enough documentary evidence to show genuine sponsorship.I am waiting for them to hear if there will be another new gist.

CareerRe: Should 2'2s Go To Hell Because They Ain't 1st Class Or 2'1? by Daviddj(m): 3:10pm On May 31, 2006
My fellow Nairaland members,l must really say that you are very correct for the discrimination as regards employing those wit 2.2,inasmuch that the circumstances that have led to my fellow nairaland members wit 2.2,that does not mean it is the end of the road.Although,l am in the 2.1 category, but l know of some many of my colleagues with 2.2 who are very good.
Moreso,l will advise that you start to invest in yourselves so that the 2.2 syndrome does not take you backward. You can also try and start a Masters programme which i believe is a good way of getting out of the job discrimination against the 2.2's.
TV/MoviesRe: The Intern Show (Reality TV) by Daviddj(m): 7:15am On May 16, 2006
I also registered for the intern show with my hard earned money, but the whole thing looks like it is a scam because after we all rushed to register and pay the money asked for,the organizers had to push the date further so as to get more persons to keep on paying into their UBA or ZENITH accounts.Well,l strongly believe that it is even the monies realised from us that will be used to organize the so called INTERN SHOW if at all there will be any.
