Got Code P0172 on my wife's 2005 Honda Element.

I'm thinking what could be the cause
Element 2005 doesn't use MAF sensor
Fuel pump pressure checked.
Two sensors excellent based on readings,
No exhaust leak, no misfire .

Just thinking how this can be fixed

So, when you buy Tokunbo, that's its over 100k miles as its often done in Nigeria, how will the converter perform?

In one of our stations, that's 100% solar powered. We have about 2kva left as balance and a woman wants to rent a space as salon. The engineers have said we can't do above 2kva or 2000watts, which would include a low voltage AC.

She sends this

Steamer 1200 Watts
Water heater 1500watts
Hand dryer 1000 Watts
Flat iron 35watts
Curling iron 30watts
Hot comb 38 Watts

Which I'm sure we can't do.

Can you suggest equipment that can fall within the 2000 watts?

When I traveled to Tokyo in 2015, my visa came out within 10 days. Not sure they bothered with Zenith bank or Diamond bank back then. It takes about 2 weeks for such confirmation.

Take out that yeye fuel pump. Get a complete untampered unit . Those pump alone are Chinese crap and would also cause a misfire. Excess black smoke was a result of the pulled out 02 sensor like I did explain earlier

Thanks Mayor2013. That your single response saved the day. You said return back to 02. We did and no stories. We couold have thought it was ECM, fuel pump, spark plugs, injector throttle body etc


A quick update. Car is back to 100% efficiency and Performance.

How did we do it? It was simple and straight forward. The panel beater pulled out a sensor and blocked the sensor inlet. 5 mins after, car started misfiring. This morning, removed the catalytic converter assembly from the manifold, started the car, rev up to 3000, inserted a different catalytic converter assembly, inserted the upstream and downstream sensor, started the car, all misfiring and 02 sensor code disappered. car has driving 15 miles from Ikeja down to Ikoyi, No single is back as at yet, and it was confortably doing 120kmph this afternoon, without hesitation.

Beware of eBay. I have stopped shopping there. Chinese Kazeem part sellers full the place. Many of them will pose like they are in the US/UK only for you to click "place order" and later see "item shipped from shenzu"
I have series of experiences from self and family. On such sensitive items I only do OEM or the aftermarket guy that does the OEM e.g Denso does the oem O2 sensor for my accord but also has the aftermarket direct-fit one which is way cheaper.

So sorry to hear the overtorquing thing. This is common place in this country. You will even see some use an impact wrench (irrespective of speed/torque setting) to mount wheels. Their motto is tighten until it can move no more

Thanks so much. Just spoke to my mechanic, the conclusion is that the engine can't breathe property, hence the very poor idling and black soot.

First tomorrow is to look for another shell, and put in back the factory exhaust, with or without the catalytic converter, for us to see the condition of the engine. If the engine idles well, then we can breathe a sigh of relief.

Lesson has been learned. Honda is different from Toyota. If sensor is bad, just leave it there, rather than trying to be wise

The downstream sensor is to be placed in the opening directly on the converter, whilst the upstream is the one on the long pipe to be connected to the manifold.

The thread of the upstream sensor was the one damaged and the panel beater chose to seal up until we get another sensor and rethread the hole. The next was the black soot and the car was driven 14 miles after after the seal up. I just pray the engine is not damaged due to the 14 miles drive
