zimunachimdi:Lol... . Owerri people like enjoyment too much. Ofe Owerri na meat galore soup. I can remember while in school, once I cook that soup, na so we go dey receive unsolicited visitors till d soup finish. |
4realwoman:Yes ooo.. a wum onye Owerri kponkwem! |
4realwoman:We use the red one mostly. Grew up calling the other specie Ede Anambra. |
Ok..let me give my own recipe for Ofe Owerri. Ingredients : -Meat: make sure you buy an assortment of meat, goat meat, shaki, cowleg, etc Okporoko (stockfish) Ogiri Ede (red type) Dried Fish, some people also add smoked fish Periwinkle (optional) Knorr cube Palm oil Crayfish Fresh Red pepper Uziza(sliced) Okazi (sliced) Salt Wash and Boil the meat and season properly. (Note that we don't use onions for this soup) Peel the Ede red, wash and slice in bits to ensure it cooks quickly then add to the meat . This will be monitored and brought out when its cooked then Pound in mortar and set aside. Also wash the okporoko and dried fish then keep aside. It will be added to the soup when all them meat have cooked to a large extent. Once your assorted meat and stockfish has cooked reasonably, add the ground crayfish and pepper to the boiling mix. Add palm oil, then Ogiri(I dissolve the ogiri with some of the meat stock before pouring into the soup). Ensure it boils very well so the oil would have mixed properly with the water then add the pounded Ede (cut it in little bits ). I try not to make mine very thick. Just slightly. taste for salt to ensure the Ogiri did not throw the taste overboard. Next add the sliced Uziza leaves and allow to boil for like 3-5mins. Soon enough, you will start perceiving the lovely uziza aroma. Lastly I add sliced Okazi and allow it cook for a while. ( some people use Ugu leaves in place of Okazi) Note that this soup has to have a lot of "passengers" that is why it is said to be expensive. *singing * Onye na enweghi ego o ji eri Ofe Owerri? My Ofe Owerri is ready! Wish I had pics to back it up. (Too lazy this weekend to cook fresh soup. We go dey manage the one wey dey biko) Searched the net and saw these pics . They used Ugu leaves.

mydreams25:You are welcome dear. Glad I could help. |
mydreams25:I work in a bank and my scenario is almost like urs as I don't have a help at home and I have 2 kids (3yrs n 1yr). I also stay in d same area with my parents so it has been a really huge bonus. Lemme just share how My typical day goes: Wake up 4 , prepare breakfast and pack lunch for us and d kids den bathe and dress them same time dh is doing his own morning routine. Once he is done, he takes over and feeds dem while i quickly prepare myself for work. We all drive off afterwards to drop dem at sch , den i drop off and head to work while dh enters d hub of traffic(Apapa). My dad has a more flexible time so he goes to pick dem frm school and stays with dem till we return, den we all head home . Quickly prepare dinner, arrange d kids things for d next day , get dem to bed (anoda work on its own cos na dat time dem go wan play, no understand say mummy n daddy don tire from d office hustle n bustle) den collapse on d bed too tired for anything else .In all dese, d house and its general ambience may suffer as sweeping and cleaning may not b an everyday tin. Just try to clean once once sha in d evenings wen d kids have slept.. This is how we run until weekend wen u can rest a bit before d crazy cycle starts again. The unit u work in and ur bosses also add to what u need to consider. Just make use of ur parents availability bt if dat wont work (proximity issues) , get a good creche and pay for after school care for both of dem so u can pick dem wen u close. Since Ilorin may not have heavy traffic, u can make good time in picking dem up from d creche. Anyhow sha, Weigh the financial benefit against d stress and adjustments u may have to make and knw if it will b worthwhile. Bt pls, dnt reject it without trying first. Discuss with ur hubby on how u can run d whole tin and pray he assists /supports u. Dis economy no dey smile so every kobo counts. U can do it.! |
Oh no! Dis is sooo shocking and sad. May her soul find rest in d bosom of d Lord. |
Giddyperson:Hbd ma'am ... may dis b ur best year yet |
zaynie:Na so we c am oo. Thank God say na boy, last last, cobbler go measure am sew. |
Chanbaby: ...I've heard something like dat too...d theory of men with big feet. |
I hail all my fellow big feet mamas ooo! Me, na size 43 i dey wear and wide one at dat. I even went up to 44 in pregnancy. E no funny at all. And i can relate to shoe sellers opening office on top person head. Once I c shoe wey enter me, I no dey even mind d beauty abi design . I just buy am like dat. To think dat wen I was younger, I been dey blame my mama say y she go see my papa wey dey wear size 46 go marry am knowing say na size 41 she dey wear. Y she no find man wey get smaller leg marry? Say na dem cause y my feet big wit funny shape. Guess wat? My DH wears size 47!! D way my mum yabs me abt it ehn, chai. !! Say y me sef no put am into consideration wen I dey do love . Already , my DS wears size 12 at 3yrs. |
Oh wow! Totally forgot abt mama's corner today and I really wanted to be a part of it. Got carried away with events of d day. I have some items to give out. Guess I will have to wait till next month. Weh done mamas. |
kelizosuy:Awww...see dis lil beauty Kelizosuy, d Lord really rose for ur sake. Rejoice and worry no more dear. HE is more dan able to provide. Proudmom38 and completey, be rest assured dat God is working overtime on everything dat concerns u. D love here ehn..., its just amazing. Sometimes, i just wish i were preggers just to be an active part of dis family ( bt truth is, I neva ready abeg) God bless this family. |
Mama ifyalways' point is very valid I was also just wondering wat the sharing formula will be. If dere is say 20k in d account, and someone has a 30k need, will dere be a standing rule dat a beneficiary cannot be given more dan a certain percent of d account balance? A lot will have to b considered. I support openness. Specific monetary needs shld b communicated and persons who are led can donate freely. |
Wonderful idea Mummy zaynie. Make i go raid my wardrobe /store |
Prettyhurts:Kai! I really remember dis game with nostalgia. Na serious agbaya level for me cos i play am till old age . For us every animal meat na food; Ant meat, tortoise meat, quail meat....chai.Infact, I wan play again. I no mind join u jare . Those were d days. Growing up na scam joo |
Trish102:I actually trust Clinix (Amuwo ) . If you still want other options, try El-Lab (3rd Avenue Festac ) or Paramount ( 4th Avenue Festac). Dey are also good |
edithodg:My LO once had this kind of reaction to d immunisation. To be honest, I really cant remember what I did exactly (its bin 3 yrs) but I think you can apply something cold on it to gradually help reduce it . I dont think massaging it is permitted though. But If its really very worrisome, it won't hurt to take her to d hospital. Hopefully other mamas will have better suggestions. |
dunasy:Lol...no b small sweet sleep. Indeed motherhood is work bt it can't b traded for all d gold in the world. E be like say I gats to involve DH in dis "project work" more jare. Body no b firewood. |
@ dunasy, dis na real step by step procedure. .I have started gradually , though most times , between waking up severally to feed my 1yo and really grooving my sleep after d day's stress ( i dont sleep light and I have no help at home) , i have nt been steadfast at it . . Thanks for d response & encouragement. We will get there |
KeniBodyks:You can geta a bulb syringe from any supermarket or shops dat sell baby stuff. As for d congestion, u can try going to d hospital to see a paed. Dey can check to see if his chest is clear and recommend appropriately. A nebulizer could also be used in the hospital if dey feel it is needed. Nice to see a concerned /supportive dad. |
@Graciouscharis, your detailed response is well taken.. I used to feel it was better not to allow him sleep long in d day(if at all) , cos most times wen he takes afternoon naps, even at 11:30pm his eye go still dey shine like torchlight. So i usually will prefer him to b active during d day so dat btw 8pm and 9pm, he will sleep till day . break. Will make adjustments. ...and yippee!, d tea and bread was well taken today .. Make d big oga dey dere dey do shakara, dis LO na jack of all trade fòr food mata! |
Naomi14: Its at Satellite town. Dey launch am last yr |
claudia50:Mama Liftedhands captured it aptly. A healthy baby is a happy baby. A baby who is prone to easily smile, giggle and chuckle. Is active and playful |
Mamas Zheemub and olubankemi...Thanks for your suggestions. I really hav to dedicate more time to it and put all these into consideration. Motherhood aint easy. @mayluv, I get Nan 3 in Grocery Bazaar supermarket. Or sometimes Trade Fair mkt ( though plenty fake dey dere) Top of d morning everyone! |
@Liftedhands, thank you so much. I will start immediately. He seems more adventurous with food dan his bro and i want to milk it for what it's worth. @farydah. I will try dat. Tin is he sleeps way too deep! Can sleep thru any kinda noise or distubance so getting him to cooperate with u to wee wen he is asleep no go easy. But i no get choice, i will follow ur advice and also stop late drinking of water. I appreciate d response |
Lovely mamas, good evening. Hope we all are doing fine with our LO's. First time posting here. I appreciate d wealth of info here. God bless every contributor. Abeg, I have small question. Dnt knw if it has been answered b4, bt 1. How do I get my 3yo to stop weeing on his body wen he sleeps. Especially at night. I feel like i haven't done enuff as he still has to put on diapers to sleep at dis age. He even says it himself " No mummy, I dont want to wear Pampers . Dey r for small babies. I am a big boy!" Yet he will design d bed if he no wear am. 2. Is it safe to start giving my 1yo DS tea? If yes, wat can i use to make it? Milo and Nan 3 ? I want to know cos i think its cos i didnt start early dat his elder bro selects food a lot. No bread and tea, no golden morn, no beans, so many no's. I dnt want to make d same mistakes Abeg sabi mamas, helep me ans |
@Eezohbabe, pls cry no more. U will b back to testify of God's goodness soonest. |
