Hello good people.
Abeg, I'm in urgent need of the passport. I'd be needing it in the next 10, 11 days. Can anyone help? Or at least link me up with a forthright fellow who can? It's really urgent.

I need help with this please.
Hi there.
There aren't many Biol. science folks on here, 98% are engineers cheesy
I'm also looking to major in Biomed/Biol sciences, but the idea and perception of "safe schools" is relative, so I couldn't make a list of schools I consider "safe" for you. Besides, na learner I still be cheesy For example, though, Johns Hopkins offers great, it's not a safe school for me, but it could be for you. You get the drift? So I'd advise you try throwing a query at Google, like "Universities for Biological science MS/PhD programs" and it'd do well to give you what you need. You most likely would be having top schools topping the list. This is perfect cos you'll have (and need) to run the gamut of such a list. You can also try usnews.com, mastersportal.eu directly, or check out any of the results Google presents you - this can lead to people's experiences or sapient analyses on good forums. You can also come back here with your list for the gurus to critique.

Good luck, chief.

Seem pretty clear to me. It means that there are two ways you can be admitted into the graduate program of the school.

1) You will be admitted to the department directly. It is highly likely you would have a specific research interest, contact the faculty and get their commitment to taking you as a student.

2.) The second is an interdepartment (if I can call it that) program involving all the departments that can be classified as as biomedical/health related. It gives you more flexibility in selecting your area of research and would probably admit higher number of students (with various science background) through this method.
Thank you so much. I got a similar picture. I guess I just wanted to hear your point of view and was hoping to get an advice alongside- as with which of the options is safe to go through with, seeing as it's unlike the everyday admission path into programs.

Today I took the GRE a second time and I'm relieved it's over as I don't intend taking it again.I took the test for the first time July 3rd, I scored 309, 154v 155q,AWA 4.0. I was disappointed to say the least,it felt like all of my efforts were in vain. I put in a lot of work considering my schedule(I'm resident on a construction site and it's very stressful)and it was just a downer. When I left the exam hall that day I knew I wanted to retake the exam but I was thinking of the money I'll have to pay again, luckily for me a friend of mine graciously offered to pay for me( someone I've never met o). So I registered and decided to focus more on practice tests to build my stamina.Today's was significantly more difficult than my last and I can attribute it to my doing better on my first sections than I did during my last attempt. Honestly the second section of my quantitative was difficult, my hands were shaking throughout the whole thing. I was already afraid I was going to score poorly again. My experimental section was verbal too so I had to read those long passages urgggh, I eventually reported my scores( I actually covered my face, I was really nervous) opened it and saw 158v 158Q , while its 4 marks short of my ideal score, I'm just happy it isn't too bad and I can actually put the GRE behind me and move on to the next thing.

This thread really helped me, I got a lot of materials andI was also motivated by the great scores here. Saying a big thank you to rexcheeng for his encouragement too. I'm sorry if my writing is all over the place, I'm just writing as it comes to mind.
@emboldened.... I crave this feeling.
Congratulations, miss!! Would you be kind to share the strategies you hired with us prospective takers?

Plus...
How did you figure out your experimental section?

Good evening everyone, I wrote my gre again for the second time today and was only able to add 5 points to my previous scores. Am really devastated at the moment, Don't know what to do. Previous score V 144 Q 150. Recent score V 143 Q156
While we await the seasoned fathers of the thread to come tend to this, I'd chip a little something in.... That you decided to write a second time shows how pertinacious you are! Keep that up, chief; it's.... sublime.

"Thank you for your interest in our graduate program. We do not offer a terminal Master's degree. However, there are two mechanisms to enter our department for studies toward the Ph.D.:

1) You can apply directly to the Department of Biological Sciences. If accepted, you will complete 2-3 rotations with faculty in our department. This is a good option if you have a strong interest in one or several labs in our department and prefer a small, focused environment with maximum coursework flexibility. In your statement of interest, please indicate which laboratories (from the list of primary training faculty) particularly interest you.

2) Alternatively, you can enter the department of Biological Sciences at the end of the first year after applying through the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program (IGP). The IGP is a first-year admission program that includes 11 different departments and programs concentrating on the Biomedical Sciences. The Biological Sciences department is a member of the IGP program (the only department that is housed in Arts and Science, rather than the medical school). If you are accepted to the IGP program, you complete 4 rotations during the first year while taking coursework with the other IGP students (a large, overview course in the fall and smaller, focused courses in the spring). The rotations can be completed with anyone affiliated with the 11 different departments and programs (more than 200 faculty total). At the end of the first year, you join a lab and also join a specific graduate program to which that PI belongs (e.g. Biological Sciences)."

It's a lot. Would someone please be kind enough to make this clearer?
cc DreManuel, Scholastica16, Time2Smile ....pretty please?

It depends on how egregious the mistake in your name is. If it is just a few letters, then I wouldn't sweat it. Getting the supervisor to give you a letter of recommendation helps to prove you did the work. You can also discuss the research in your SOP and add a line about your name being misspelled if you are comfortable with that.

But if I were you, I would just discuss the project since I am the one that did it, without any mention of the mistake. If adcomms are in doubt about authorship, they can always contact you for clarification.
Thank you.
@emboldened... The mistake is terrible. He submitted "Abim" instead of "Ab" as middle name. These are entirely different names. I have no idea how he came about the other name; he even argued it was what he saw in the soft copy I submitted. He kept at it until he looked it up and realised the mistake himself. I think getting him to write to own up to the mistake - as you've advised- is safer.
Thank you, again.

It is definitely a plus. Be sure to mention it in your SOP, you can even cite the article as a footnote in your SOP.
Dr. Time, please I have a related question. My supervisor published my work without my consent and got my name wrongly spelt in the paper. We have contacted the EIC of the journal, he claims nothing can be done. Even worse is the journal (Journal of Biomedicine) doesn't use initials, it uses authors' full names. I intend making reference to this paper; I put so much in it. What do you think can be done? How would you advise I go about citing it in my SOP and other concomitant documents?

When and how did the visa thread become like this? So many conflicting pieces of advice. Is there a way for the system to filter out the negative and derisive comments? Everyone comes on the thread for a reason, we shouldn't have to satirise other people to make a point. This is a public forum, so, yes, some quasi-silly questions will be asked. It will be in your place (as someone who can help) to choose to stretch out the helping hand or not.

Props to those who tirelessly respond positively to all manner of questions. To those who may have a question or two, let's tryda do a little search on our own-there's a reason the internet is the internet- before coming on here to ask for further help.

This is someone's motivation letter. Some corrections were made by an expert. Read the remarks after the letter....
Thank you for sharing this, Sardeeque.

I couldn't agree more with the critique. I too feel that his voice is disconnected. Reading through his 'essay' was more like listening to a debating secondary school student, trying to garner as many points as possible for his team. The only difference is he didn't include the hackneyed "With these points of mine, I hope I have been able to convince and not confuse you ...." windup. I also feel he talked only about his involvement in HIV and AIDS sensitisation. I wouldn't know if this would be ok in the eyes of the assessor(s).

I like this part of his essay, though...
"I expect to see the organization that I will be deployed in as a leading organisation for development reaching the most marginalized populations, including indigenous peoples addressing their social and economic needs, becoming a well-coordinated and sustained network that engages communities there by enabling all people to come forward to receive appropriate, accessible and acceptable services provided through government and private providers."

....maybe because it beats what I had concerning that part of the essay.

On the "There is no personal connection in the application, only data and information without any build up for your personality or character traits, which are very important..." part of the analysis, I feel TOO MUCH 'personal connection' would make one lose points as it is unnecessary. I personally feel that the CV should contain more of the details which will create that 'personal connection.'

For the errors many of us may find after reading the seemingly professional analysis of the Ugandan essay, there's a place of divine grace and favour. I wish us all great luck!
