xfire: Unfortunately, you are right. The oil industry has not grown over the years in Nigeria. The industry would have experienced enormous growth and influx of investment if well nurtured. A combination of bad policies, uncertainty and massive corruption has stifled growth in the sector. However, the focus here is not on the state of the industry but on career prospects based on numerous enquiries I receive on a regular basis. so Mr. Xfire, what'll be the fate of those eyeing the oil industry? |

Petroleum prospecting is an art. It requires combining and blending many geologic variables in varying proportions, since each pool, field, or province is characterized by a unique combination of many different geologic conditions. |

Dunvegan: This is interesting. It's amazing how people here are confidently confirming and disputing the presence of oil in Lagos . If you have not completed a comprehensive exploratory program of the area, you cannot tell for sure.
It won't be strange to find oil in Lagos (infact I believe in its occurrence there) but then comes the question of whether it is economical or not.
I'm sure these guys will do a thorough job to confirm what they're getting into before they sink all that money downhole.
Having read some comments here, I will like to say that, - 'Coastlines' do not translate to hydrocarbon reserves (or resources) - Bitumen in Ondo does not necessarily migrate and become Oil in Lagos (migration is not that simple) - Having oil in the Niger Delta and Ghana does not mean Lagos has oil too, they are completely different petroleum provinces with different structural histories; besides, it takes only a few hundred meters (not to mention 1000 km) to go from a gusher to a beautiful dry hole. Dahomey basin extends to Southeastern Ghana, Togo, Lagos and it is a known petroleum province.. |

Lagos is under the Dahomey Basin, so there is enough possibility that there could be oil in Lagos... Geophysical investigation have been conducted and there are presence of oil stains .. Read this |

The oil found in Lagos was as a result of the migration of the excess Bitumen reserves in Ondo State. The okitipupa ridge lies non-conformably with the Dahomey Basin in Benin Republic. Bitumen is vast in ondo state, the 2nd largest deposit of Bitumen in the world after Canada. Bitumen(solid hydrocarbon) has been known, after traveling below the subsurface for a long period of time, not forgetting the overburden temperature, pressure and time to eventually transform into oil. The oil-bearing capacity in Lagos doesn't provide for initial carbonate deposit accumulation. I doubt if the reserve in Lagos will stand a test of time. Geological studies indicate that the Dahomey Basin is a combination of inland/coastal/offshore basin that cuts across some West African countries including Lagos, Nigeria as well as Southeastern Ghana, Togo and the Republic of Benin. The basin is said to be separated from the Niger Delta by a surface basement popularly called the Okitipupa Ridge in Ondo State which is early Mesozoic in age. |

Fash20: because CU is the first to have Reverse engineering they should no be among the best in Nigeria. Noo! yes they should... The Engineering faculty in that school is bam, for real... We Nigerians are just oblivious of the facts, or let me put it straight that we tend to ignore the truth. Forget the fact that it's relatively a new school or a private varsity, like some ignorant peeps would say, but they are doing far better than the so-called premier varsities we have. Education to me shouldn't be about how your lecturers are harsh to you, or whatever reasons. It's high time we stop living under this assumption or hypos. |

This list is a joke... Why is Covenant Uni not on your list ? Ever heard of Reverse Engineering?? Covenant Uni was the first to introduce Reverse Engineering in the country. Reverse engineering is taking apart an object to see how it works in order to duplicate or enhance the object. The practice, taken from older industries, is now frequently used on computer hardware and software. the school has become the first University in Nigeria to embrace reverse engineering technology which majority of developed economies are already deploying for global competitiveness. |

olawalepopoola: I live in Owo area of Ondo State. Akoko area is generally is known to belong to the opposition since the beginning of this fourth republic. In fact Ali Olanusi was the one that single handedly delivered Akoko for Mimiko in the last election! He is from a small village but has etched his name on the sand of time in Ondo Politics! For those who think PDP will Ondo remember these: Ondo has 18 Local Government Areas with 6 each belong to three senatorial district: Pattern of Voting in Ondo State 1. Ondo North: Owo, Osse, Akoko South West, Akoko North West, Akoko South East and Akoko North East: This is the home to the likes of Aketi, Olanusi, Bode Ayorinde, Senator Ajayi-Borofice etc. 80% of eligible voters will vote APC while PDP gets 20%. Factors for this is because people see more politicians in APC as grass root developers than PDP politicians that does not doing anything for the development of the area. For example the first private university, Achievers University, Owo is established by Barrister Bode Ayorinde who is also running to represent Owo/Ose federal constituency in the house of rep. 2. The central parts will have 60% PDP and 40% APC 3. The southern parts will have 60% APC and 40% PDP. The reasons been that the current state chairman of APC Kekemeke is from this side and will definitely want to deliver as a good leader! MHR Hon. Edema is also from this side! Other factors that have been affecting PDP in the state is the issue of Mimiko defection to PDP from LP to Lord it over them. Most of the Jimoh Ibrahim faction of the state PDP have resolved to work with the APC candidates as punishment for Mimiko Bode Ayorinde, that's my Pro-Chancellor |

The Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Alhaji Ali Olanusi, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress. Olanusi’s defection was confirmed to The Eagle Online by his Chief Press Secretary, Daisi Ajayi. Ajayi told The Eagle Online in a telephone interview on Thursday: “It is true. “He has moved to the APC.” The Eagle Online gathered that Olanusi fell out with his boss, Governor Olusegun Mimiko, over his decision to move from the Labour Party to the PDP. So many aides of Mimiko also disagreed with the switch from the Labour Party to the PDP. Mimiko pulled a masterstroke on his former boss, late Governor Olusegun Agagu, when he pulled out Olanusi from the PDP and announced him as his running mate on the platform of the Labour Party. Olanusi was then the Chairman of the PDP in Ondo State. Agagu was elected on the platform of the PDP. With Mimiko’s decision to move to the PDP from the Labour Party, several of his lieutenants disagreed with him. It was also learnt that Olanusi may have dropped his resignation letter as deputy governor. He is scheduled to meet with the leaders of the APC in Ondo State any minute from now. In a press statement he personally signed, Olanusi said: “In the unfolding development in our country today and in Ondo state in particular, it is increasingly clear that I need to chart a new course for majority of my followers who looked up to me for direction and leadership and who watched helplessly in the last six years the untold marginalisation and total exclusion from the government they laboured to out in place. “While still in place as the democratically deputy governor of Ondo state, I have decided to lead my teeming supporters and well wishers in the state into All Progressives Congress, APC, where we can find fairness, justice, equity and democratic liberty to which majority of our kith and kins in Yorubaland belong. “I have taken this decision at this crucial time in the best interest of peace, stability and good governance of our dear state and overall development of the south west and the nation.” Source:

@OP, thanks for this wonderful exposition, this is Indeed a great platform whereby Geologists and Geophysicists alike will find very useful, most especially undergraduates like me. I'm an Undergraduate Geologist in a Private Nigerian Institution. I would love to learn industry softwares, most especially PETREL which is the leading software anywhere around the globe. The Schlumberger's NEXT is pretty expensive, however I would love to know any other place where I can be taught these software, the price range and possible ways to get in contact with them.. I must say again that you're doing a great job as to the eBooks, only God can reward you for this. I'll be awaiting your response. Thanks. |
