I was highly impressed with what the website was for. Actually the idea was very innovative. As someone who studied Geology, I immediately keyed into the conceived idea of having an Integrated Automation and Interactive GIS-based Web Portal, coupled with business analytics and statistical data integration, that would be awesome in today's ever growing data analytics. Truly these stuffs cost a lot. So i checked up twitter later on and saw the link to the portal to see things for myself(via NEITI Twitter Handle).

Lo and behold, I logged in with my phone and did the usual login and the rest. The first thing I noticed was that the GIS-based portal alone was not enabled on mobile. I thought within myself that a portal of such supposed cash-gulping funds should FULLY be Mobile and PC-enhanced. This website, designed to be beneficial to mining investors for payments of royalties, online queries, GIS-based etc should have all its components FULLY supported on Mobile and PC.

I didn't let that weigh me down, I opened my PC to access the Website. I was able to see the GIS portal link on the top right of the portal's home page. I was delighted to click on this link, it went through. The next page displayed Web-based GIS maps of the areas of interest (Admin Boundary, Geology, Topology etc). I clicked on to view...... The links were completely truncated.
What I saw was quite embarrassing, a page that would later lead to another page where I'd download a picture of 1 kilobyte (1kb) for what he called a GIS-based web portal GIS data maps are high-end quality maps, in megabytes for a good visualization and interpretation.

This goes for all the other areas of interest highlighted on the map.

The idea was good, but the implementation and set up was horrible.



This is so not right, and I'm once again disappointed.

So many nitwits arguing like dumbheads here, justifying this corrupt act.

Back to Engineering, water is gradually finding its new level in the wetlands. What we are witnessing is a complete engineering failure. Attempts at displacing the Atlantic ocean rather than just normal coastline protection will continue to result in catastrophe.

Years back, Commissioner for Environment, Muiz Banire stated that in less than 20years, The Islands will submerged. People think he's mad, now they are witnessing the response from nature. I'm not sure if massive destruction alone will address this issues.

On the mainland, human attitude largely contribute to the flooding we are experiencing. Indiscriminate dumping of refuse everywhere and channels clearing need to be addressed.

When ocean surge and heavy precipitation(rainfall) co-occur, the potential for flooding in low-lying coastal areas is often much greater than from either in isolation. However, even now, long-term sea level rise is the main driver for accelerated flooding.
Sea level rise isn't caused by torrential rainfall as the general belief, it occur as a result of the gradual melting of the Antarctica ice sheets which increases all the volume of the world's oceans including the Atlantic Ocean which borders Lagos.
The Antarctica ice is melting on a daily basis due to significant increase in heat caused by climate change.
Seas are now rising an average of 3.2 millimeters per year globally, and are predicted to climb a total of 0.2 to 2.0 meters by 2100.

The phenomenon of ocean surge is not restricted to one spot. The entire coastal area of Lagos and other coastal cities are prone to it.
Offshore dredging (sand mining) for construction and land reclamation(sand filling) is the human factor causing coastal erosion in Lagos. Government should regulate frequent dredging of Lagos waters as excessive removal of the sands increases the velocity of water, destruction of the ecosystem and eventually flooding the coastal cities near it.
Lagos Government earmarked 36 Billion Naira for the construction of 3 new islands (Gracefield, Phoenix and Orange) with 18 groynes. This is commendable, but it is not enough, there should be intensive beach replenishment coupled with construction of dykes, sea walls and embankments as it is practised in the coastal areas world over.

The 2012 Kuramo Beach ocean surge which claimed 16 lives and destruction of properties brings to mind the importance of Ocean Surge prevention.

Those discriminating obviously have not been to many places in Nigeria. The entire route from Berger stretched to Lekki is less than an hour (without the heavy traffic and delays).


Same with Ikorodu, I've always thought Ikorodu is one far place until the day I found myself there. The way people talk about that route seemed like it will take forever or at least 4 hours to get there. Alas, I spent just an hour and few minutes all the way from Ojodu Berger.

Hy guys, i have a friend in turkey that has received his certificate today and his flight is on Saturday which is the deadline for the registration. He can do everything over there excluding finger print so therefore, i gave him an advice to assign someone in nigeria to do the finger print on his behalf and when he goes to the camp and claim its with was biometric error. Atleast he has beaten the deadline and better than waiting till march, what do you guys think
