WHY GEN. BUHARI SHOULD IGNORE VOTING PATTERN AND CARRY ALL REGION ALONG. arinzeesomnofu@gmail.com 08031391676s In life today, many things comes with a pattern. in fashion designing, designers follow a pattern, also shapes in mathematics comes with a pattern, same way with many other variables in life's endeavours. Also in voting, there is a clearly and a visible pattern that electorates follow knowingly or unknowingly in determining who to vote for and who not to vote for. In the United State of America, a clearly visible voting pattern is the tagging of states into Blue and Red states. Red states are those states whose residents predominantly vote for the Republican Party while the Blue state are state that the residence predominantly vote for the Democratic Party as presidential candidates. Core "Red States" that have not voted the Democrat party for years are Virginia , North Carolina , Indiana and even when a Democrat Barack Obama won the last elections in U.S he did not win in these states. Voting pattern have a great impact on the outcome of elections but there are some certain factors that determines voting pattern by electorates. In the United States for instance the major factors that influences their voting pattern are " Race, Ideology i.e liberal, moderates and conservative, also party influences voting pattern. Coming now to the Nigerian polity, the major influencer to the voting pattern here is Tribe, Party affiliation and Religion, others variables are minimal. Before the commencement of the March 28th Presidential election, political analyst drew conclusion from the already established voting pattern of the Nigerian electorates, stating states that the APC will win, states that the PDP will win and also states that the battle will be stiff. It was analysed that the APC will win massively in the North West and North East while the North Central was placed as a stiff battle for both Parties. Then PDP will win in the South East and South South. Then also it was analysed that the battle for the South West will also be stiff bearing in mind that President Jonathan won in all states of the South West except Lagos in the 2011 Presidential election. But the Political Analyst got it all wrong this time around, APC won in all states of the South West except Ekiti State where the Executive Governor Ayo Fayose stood his ground against all odd and delivered his party the People's Democratic Party. The All Progressive Congress Presidential candidate and now the President elect on his own will never have won a Presidential election in Nigeria, that was why after three attempt with different parties he could not cling it, then came the merger on the 6th of February 2013 an alliance of Nigeria's three biggest opposition parties – the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) to take on the People's Democratic Party. In the just concluded Presidential pools, the All Progressive Congress (APC) came up with a professional, calculative and distinct political plan, which is : * Campaign in all geo political zones of the federation * Gather massive votes from the strong hold of Gen. Buhari * Gather massive votes from the strong hold of the defunct ACN which is the South West. * Make sure PDP did not gather the same amount of vote they did from the South East in the 2011 Presidential election. The above plan of the APC worked like wild fire and as a result today, they are the ruling party while PDP is the opposition. Power have switch hands. The master plan of the APC was carefully dispensed to all their unit agents and they all understood their roles especially the ones in the South East. On March 28 the day of the Presidential election, the APC agent posted to the unit I served as a Presiding Officer was Mr Chijioke. A native of the village where the unit was located. Mr Chijioke was fully aware that his people preferred President Jonathan to Gen Buhari but he came that day prepared to do his job, a job that required strong determination to successfully carry out but still Mr Chijioke did his job so well that I think he should be rewarded specially by the APC. In my unit, they were 755 voters on the register but it was only around 300 that was accredited, and voting commenced then at the end of voting the electorates there started pleading that i allow the people that came back from the North to vote , some said I should give them more Presidential ballot paper to vote their brother (President Jonathan) so that he will win, and from the look on their eyes they meant business, but the APC Agent stood his ground against the will of his own people. They called him betrayal, traitor and all sorts of names but he knew the game plan of his party, the APC and he professionally stuck to it against the will of his people. And clearly from the result of the entire South East in the March 28th Presidential election one would easily say that there were many Mr Chijioke in most of the units that spreads across the region and the result was massively felt. In 2011, Presidential election, PDP had 4,985,246 votes from South East but in 2015, PDP had 2,464,906. A whooping 2million plus votes gone because of the brilliant game plan of the opposition APC. It was very clear that either the PDP was very politically clueless or they just wanted to relinquish power to the opposition because there were many things there were suppose to do that there just left to chance and they paid the price for their lackadaisical attitudes. I hope that they will perform their role professionally as opposition to the good of Nigerians, because every balanced Democracy needs a vibrant opposition. Forging to the topic of this piece, "The voting pattern " I know and you know that the South East preferred a President Jonathan to a Gen. Buhari so also does the camp of Buhari knows this and so also does the people's General himself knows this. But will you say the Igbos hate Gen Buhari? My answer to this is "NO". During President Jonathan's Administration he knew clearly that he was not the favoured choice of the North East and North West but that did not stop him from carrying out visible federal projects in the North during his Adminstration, and also appointing many Northerners in different positions and also in his cabinet during his 6 years as head of this country. My friend Cornelius Aguiyi from Anambra, all through the electioneering Brouhaha among followers of the top two political party have always patched his tenth with the people's General Okechukwu Buhari. And so does some selected people from the South East preferred Buhari to Jonathan. And will their dream candidate Gen Buhari neglect their region in his administration because of the voting pattern from that region? I don't think so. Deep within, I know our President Elect loves the Igbos that's why he accepted the name Okechukwu given to him in Aba. I strongly used this medium to call on our amiable President elect Gen Muhammadu Buhari Okechukwu to neglect the clearly and visible voting pattern of the South East in the just concluded Presidential election and be the father of the Federal Republic of Nigeria come May 29. GMB: THE PERSISTENT ONE by Esomnofu Arinze arinzeesomnofu@gmail.com 08031391676 Persistency, an act of obstinately refusing to give up or let go, have been the watch word of the people's General. Last week I wrote a piece titled "GEJ OR GMB: For Once Am Confused" www.nairaland.com/2204316/gej-gmb-once-confused-esomnofu and my fellow countrymen and women gave their unbiased reviews on the said topic, then it occurred to me that my political views are supposed to be neutral for as a serving corp member we swore to be neutral and also the singular fact that we won't get to vote due to our engagement as ad hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission I.N.E.C. so it left me wishing that the choices of my people in Anambra State for President will prevail but still the "little boy" in me wish that the man clamouring for "Change" will get his chance at the helms of affairs of Nigeria, because that silent part of me knew that General Buhari will will bring about the desired change. Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (Ret.) was born on 17 December 1942, in Daura, Katsina State, to his father Adamu and his mother Zulaihat. He is the twenty-third child of his father. Buhari was raised by his mother, after his father died when he was about three. Buhari joined the Nigerian Army in 1961, when he attended the Nigerian Military Training College (in February 1964, it was renamed the Nigerian Defence Academy, (NDA) in Kaduna). From 1962-1963, he underwent Officer Cadets training at Mons Officer Cadet School in Aldershot in England (Mons OCS was officially closed down in 1972). In January 1963, Buhari was commissioned as second lieutenant, and appointed Platoon Commander of the Second Infantry Battalion in Abeokuta, Nigeria. From November 1963- January 1964, Buhari attended the Platoon Commanders’ Course at the Nigerian Military College, Kaduna. In 1964, he facilitated his military training by attending the Mechanical Transport Officer’s Course at the Army Mechanical Transport School in Borden, United Kingdom. From then till when he retired from the military, he rose to the rank of Major General. Eureka!!! to our President Elect General Muhammed Buhari Okechukwu (Ogbuagu 1 of Aba ) as my friend from Warri TY will say "bros, it isn't easy". The people's General have made the word " persistency " come alive, having ran unsuccessfully for the office of President in the 2003 , 2007 and 2011 elections. In 2003, he ran against the then incumbent President of Nigeria Gen Obasanjo, which he lost. Then in 2007 he ran against the late Alhaji Yar Adua which he lost, in 2011 he contested under the platform of C.P.C also the General lost this time with much bitterness in his heart, but his search for victory lingers. In between the four times Gen Buhari have contested for the office of President, 16 good years have gone down the pipeline but yet the people's General showed great persistent, without giving up, he brought that very word alive today. Many hate messages have started going round the social medias jokingly asking Nigerians to adopt an Islamic name in preparation of the inevitable "islamization" of the country but what the people behind this frivolous act failed to know about our amiable President elect is that, he was a military Head of State between 31 December 1983 – 27 August 1985 and during this period Gen Buhari and his deputy Major General Tunde Idiagbon were both Muslims and their regime was dictatorial, which means that Gen Buhari could wake up one day and decide to come on national television to islamize the entire nation, calling Decree 007 or whatever he deems appropriate, but for 20 months the people General was in absolute power of the entity called Nigeria he did not do this, because deep within him he knew that the religious choices of Nigerians is one that must be respected, he knew that every Nigerian have the right to Religion and he stood on that platform till the I.B.B led team couped him out of office. Even if the people's General had a change of mind and wants to being up an islamization agenda how can he go about such in this current democratic government we are practicing. knowing fully well he must go through the upper and lower houses of legislation that consists of both of Christians, Muslim and other religion. OK let's imagine a sudden abracadabra sees him through the Senators and Honorable members of the house, how will he succeed through Nigerians that have over the years gathered such strong political interest in the polity, or have we forgotten so soon what led to subsidy protest that was tagged "Occupy Nigeria". So in common sense, this whole brouhaha of islamization won't see the light of the day in this present dispensation in Nigeria. So it should be permanently laid to rest. Also people do claim randomly that Buhari is an Islamic bigot and that his adminstration is going to favour Nigerians with Islamic background but what also people fail to note is that for years now the personal driver of General Buhari is a Christian, so in actual sense which religion bigot will employ someone that his/her faith differs from his into a sensitive position of driver, also majority of his cabinet during his regime were Christians. As a serving corp member I Herby use this medium to pledge my loyalty to the President elect and the incoming Commander in Chief of the Armed forces of Nigeria General Muhammed Buhari, and looks forward to service to my fatherland under your adminstration. Today as we celebrate General Buhari we should not fail to acknowledge the man that gave the platform for the peace we are currently enjoying in the country today President Goodluck Jonathan for accepting defeat and congratulating Buhari even before I.N.E.C officially declared him the winner of the pools. President Jonathan have shown true attribute of a statesman and for that Sir, I say a big thank you to you. Nigerians is greatful and really appreciate your service. God bless you sir. The good book says in James 5 vs 16b "the effectual fervent prayers of a righteous man availeth much" this have been the case of our President elect, he have fervently prayed for this opportunity and it is here before him. So I use this medium to say a silent prayer in my heart, that God will grant we Nigerians the persistent spirit of Gen Buhari, and in every endeavours we have failed, be it once or twice or even trice, he will answer our prayers like he answered that of Gen Buhari. Amen Longlive GEJ Longlive GMB and Longlive the Federal Republic of Nigeria. |

GEJ OR GMB: FOR ONCE AM CONFUSED By Esomnofu Arinze arinzeesomnofu@gmail.com 08031391676 Nigeria from the very day late Pa. Anthony Enahoro moved the motion for her independence in 1960 and our first Republic in 1963 running through till the current fourth republic that we are in now have always had an election that one can predict the outcome to a 90% certainty, with a little exception to the second republic. where we did not see an Alhaji Shehu Shagari of N.P.N clinging it, but he did anyway, convincingly despite the presence of political heavyweights then, names likes Chief Nnamdi Azikiwe (Zik of Africa) of N.P.P, Chief Obafemi Awolowo of U.P.N ,Waziri Ibrahim of (G.N.P.P), the vibrant Lawyer Tunji Braithwaite who was the flag bearer of N.A.P and Mallam Aminu Kano of P.R.P, Alhaji Shagari defeated the following names polling a total of 45% of total vote casted. Though our focus is not on the 1979 elections but from that election till date the outcome of most elections in Nigeria have been in favour of the so called favourites. These days, elections in Nigeria is most times taken with a "plate of indifference" and "a cup of care-freeness", the popular statement from the mouth of the common man is "elections in Nigeria, na one love, na still them-them day rule" some will say "no mind them, them don know who go win already" but now ask yourself in a honest manner who do you think will win this forth coming elections? automatically, if your a fan of President Jonathan you will quickly say "Yes of course, Mr President will win" or some will say "GEJ till 2019" but if you reading this is an ardent supporter of Rt. Gen Buhari then the answer to the question will be " Sai Buhari " or "clueless President will go back to Otuoke". In Nigeria today it takes little or nothing to win the minds of many voters, some people decide their candidate to vote from Religion, some decides from a tribal perspective and please don't laugh when I say some decides on who to vote based on looks, yes looks. You just need to be tall and good looking and yes some people will say " he is our man. he has such Presidential looks " others vote on oratory ability, but I guess that's off the table since one of the top contenders did not agree to a debate. without throwing caution to the wind, we will all agree that the two main contenders for the forth coming pools is President Jonathan and Rt. Gen Buhari, briefly and concisely let's look into the achievements and not so good things about the two topmost contenders. President Jonathan have been a acting President for two years and is less than 3 month to the expiration of his 1st tenure as President which translate to him spending close to 6 years at the helms of affairs of the country. In his time as President, President Jonathan have improved in an obvious manner rail transportation in the country, as I write Lagos can boast of working air condition trains and Abuja can boast of advanced light trains. Also the President Jonathan adminstration built Almajari schools in the north thus transferring hundreds of kids from roadside begging to the classroom. The President Jonathan led administration privatize the power sector, and also fixed the then "death trap" benin-ore express road which made the core users of that road endeared the President to their hearts. statistically the Jonathan led administration claimed to have reduced poverty by 50% and unemployment by 45% but I won't dwell much on these statistics for they are yet to be proven. Because of the Jonathan Agricultural transformation agenda Nigeria's crude import bill have reduced from about $7billion to about $4.3 billion dollars annually. The President Jonathan led administration set aside N50 billion for agricultural mechanization fund. Also in President Jonathan led adminstration, Nigeria have the biggest Rice mill in Africa. Briefly, let's look at the not so good things about President Jonathan's adminstration. President Jonathan's administration have been dented with various corruption charges and not one of the heavyweights have been successfully persecuted, but actually the reverse is the case for in Nigeria today lots of corrupt people have been celebrated. Example of such people is Stella Odua , the former aviation minister who allegedly spent $2.5 million on bulletproof cars, and four months later she was forced to resign, next she was made a Chief in her hometown. Another unsolved corruption case is that of former house speaker Faruku Lawan and Femi Odetola who got away with $600,000 bribe scandals despite audio and video evidence, the case today is a closed case. Also the Police pension trust fund that ran into billions of Naira was embezzled, suspects were brought to court till date none have been persecuted and these people continue feeding fat on the sweat of others. And lastly during President Jonathan's administration $49 billion dollars went missing in the Nigerian treasury and later they said it was "only" $20 billion dollar and instead of looking for the missing money, they decided to go after the whistle blower, the C.B.N governor Mallam Lamido Sanusi. A brief look into Gen Buhari, one will say, here is a man that have held Public office in Nigeria without any case of corruption attached to his name, he is a firm believer of equity and also he frowns against indiscipline that was why he introduce "war against indiscipline W.A.I" during his military carrier. The Buhari regime frowns so much at corruption that was why many corrupt politicians were jailed and individuals that could not explain the source of their wealth were so scared to flunt their wealth for the fear of being nab. Looking into the things not so good about the "people's" General, once can't rule out the kidnapped sage of Umaru Dikko, call him Mr corrupt or whatever name you chose to call him, there were still other legitimate ways to bring him to book but the Buhari led régime chose an illegitimate method of kidnapping that ended up shattering our diplomatic ties with Britain. Also many argued that some of the jailed individual as well as some politicians then, were given a quick trail and was given little or no room to defend themselves. Some were jailed without trial at all. Also the khaki boys became wreck less, unleashing their venom at will on defenceless citizens, and anytime the afro beat legend Late Fela speaks against such brutal treatment by the men on "khaki" he would be beating and flogged to point of death. All of the above happened under the military regime of Gen Buhari which one can easily argue that such are the things associated with military regime. Now this is where the confusion starts to creep in, last week in Kaduna during an A.P.C presidential rally, the A.P.C presidential candidate Gen Buhari made a statement that got even his supporters wondering, hear him “On the issue of past corrupt leaders facing trials in various courts across the country, I would allow the courts to decide on those cases, but whoever that is indicted of corruption between 1999 to the time of swearing-in, would be pardoned. I am going to draw a line, anybody who involved himself in corruption after I assume office, will face the music.” the above statement to me is a big compromise on the "Buhari character" the Buhari character to most supporters is a strong willed hand that is not scared of calling a spade a spade not withstanding the consequences, so that above statement by the Gen is a clear indication that his team is now having a clear say on how his adminstration will be runned and thus given room for more compromise. And at the end of the day, some people will still end up scot free from corruption charges. Nigerians, are you confused? as for me my confusion have gotten to the highest of height. But one fact that stands above my confusion is that one of the two analysed candidate will be our next President. Even on the day of election am sure my head will want to vote candidate A,but my thumbs might touch candidate B, that's the level of dellima am in right now. All my life have always been able to determine what I want and what is good for me. but now dear readers am confused, I don't want to trend in Religious or tribals path but rather who can't get the job done among our two top presidential candidates, this is where I seek your help, my dear readers... who should i "March with" come March 28, and why should I march with the person, please evidence based answers will be most appreciated to clear my head from the confusion that lingers in it. |

I pick my pen once again to write for it is indeed a noble cause, a pen that have been filled with dust due to lack of inspiration. The last time I was motivated to write was when I heard of the gruesome manner a corpers lodge in Wammakko LG of Sokoto State was burnt to the ground and how my good friend Maureen was attacked on her way back from fellowship. I know a public opinion will be why use "Tribute" , is Senior Corper Vincent dead? the answer is a resounding No and God Forbid. my friend Vincent is very much bouncing. According to Advance English Dictionary, Tribute is An acknowledgment of gratitude, respect or admiration; an accompanying gift. least with the above definition one can easily identify why I chose the word "TRIBUTE". How I remember, rather fondly 24th of Nov last year when I got my posting letter and I saw J.S.S RIMAWA. (the first day I met the GREAT fellow, SNR VINCENT) how will I forget the long and crazy 2hours journey to our PPA. with hopes held high thanks to the speech by Mr Talama (L.I) only for us to meet the infamous CORPERS LODGE Rimawa. but it was Ur administrative prowlers and maturity that gave calm to us and immediately the though of renting an apartment left my mind. THANK YOU CORPER VINCENT. In you I saw a young man that embraced God in the early stage of his life and that you have imbibed in us all. THANK YOU CORPER VINCENT when ever I come visiting in Riamwa, your pot was always open to us. This might be funny but THANK YOU CORPER VINCENT we came to RIMAWA a place that have been without light for months but with Ur leadership ability you restored power and now we even own a Generating Set, we are not using. THANK YOU CORPER VINCENT. you are fondly called PAPU, and on personal research I discovered that PAPU is a name for "Father" among the Red Indians, maybe your fatherly qualities have been seen among your fellow Corp Members and also your leadership management in N.C.C.F on behalf of every N.C.C.F corp members we say THANK YOU SNR CORPER VINCENT Now you have completed your compulsory one year of service to your Father's land, we say may God Almighty favour you among Men. May He grant you all of your heart desires, may He make you leader among men all the days of your life Amen. Just yesterday , I deleted a sim contact to include your number there , so I won't loose your number, will I one day regret this decision? Never . For Senior Corper Vincent is a jolly good Fellow. Good morning Good corp members Yesterday 2nd of February 2015. A tragedic incid. ent happened here in our very own Sokoto State. There was a clash between PDP supporters member and APC supporters in Tambuwa LG and during the clash the entire Corper's lodge was raised down in flames. We Thank God that the Corp members were not inside when it happen so no life was lost. But imagine the amount of valuables that will be lost in that incident Original Credentials of corp members , cloths , laptops ,Phones and also foodstuffs. Things that no matter what our #19800 allowie can't get them back for you. Now I ask, is this service to our father's land or a targeted attack on we corp members here in Sokoto state. What are the grievances of the thugs that raised down the corpers lodge. What were the offences committed by the Corp members. The election is yet to commence and these people are behaving this way. In town it is no news that the kind of new shinny matchet that these supporters of the various parties do carry about. Another question begging for answers is "are there now clamouring for votes with matchets, or they are indirectly sending us a message we are too blind to see" Last week my very good friend Maureen was attacked in Sokoto ( Fodio Road ) in particular when she was coming back from Fellowship by these same supporters of political parties, A big full brick was stoned at her from behind, and the poor girl fainted on the spot. Only to be rushed to hospital by a close by corp member. As at the time of writing this, NYSC is yet to return money spent on her medicals. This leads to another question begging for immediate answer, "why have Maureen done wrong, Who did Maureen offend by going for fellowship" The big answer to this question is a big and resounding NO ONE. My clamouring for departure from this place during this time of election have always been that I am so so so so not comfortable with the body language of these thugs of the two core political parties here. Now I would I av loved to gladly say, "please oh, my fellow corp members be very careful as usual " but will you say the Corp members in Tambuwa were not careful or perhaps Maureen my friend was not careful. God Almighty will never turn his back on we Sokoto Corp members in Jesus name. AMEN. So my friends in Rimawa will not say "Don, av started again" Good morning gentlemen corp members, as that man in our morning parade will ask "How was ur night" Esomnofu Arinze writes from Sokoto state |
Good morning Good corp members of Rimawa/Colony. Yesterday 2nd of February 2015. A tragedic incident happened here in our very own Sokoto State.
