so many disappointing comments right here. we blame, blame , blame and blame. do we really watch the games at all? no other team in the whole of europe endures what our attackers have to endure game after game, not chelsea, not man u, not real madrid, not bayern. i have watched every of barca's games and it's always the same. teams put 8 men at the back from the blast of the whistle, and play on the counter. sometime in 2012 this technique was discovered. and it has worked for them. its easy to blame messi, its easy to blame neymar, its easy to blame iniesta, xavi and co. by the end of the season we would have blamed the whole of the 23 players. who doesnt know that there are always two lines of 4 defenders each whenever messi or neymar gets the ball? what are they supposed to do? disappear through the walls? and reappear on the other side?it's also very easy to say 'messi shouldnt be missing the chances he gets' but anyone who has played the game might know that its very easy to miss a chance when you have been worn out already trying to break down an 8 man defence or when you get a one on one with the keeper and your subconscious tells you there 'hundreds' of defenders around you. all the boys are good: messi, neymar, suarez, iniesta, rakitic, etc etc. we will get back to winning ways. what needs to change is the pattern of play. something must be done about teams playing 8 men at the back from minute 1. anyone who claims this is just an excuse is insincere. what should be done to create spaces at the back? give the ball away to the opposition? play long balls promptly to the attackers? worst culprit-busquets-i have seen busquets countless times do this: he wins the ball from the back and instead of sending a long ball forward while the defence is still sparse, he opts to make a side pass to xavi, xavi back pass to pique, pique another side pass to masch, then masch to busquets again, 3 minutes are gone, 8 defenders have taken thier positions again at the other end. all of these when the ball could have gone from busquets to messi or neymar in 6 seconds! like madrid or chelsea do it. what needs to change is the pattern of play.

Arch Knight of the Messi Order,
Just calm down jare. Am not here to do your everymoment Messi arguments.
Its not an illussion but reality that Messi is the star player for barcelona. The setup of the team will still revolve around Messi no matter who joins and hence my comment. I was not alluding to your fantasies as you often find with your co-argumentators.

Even Phil understood better what I was pointing at

That said You did not see the other part of my comment that said he has a better chance at silverware (which is a compliment to Messi and his teammates).

Bro you need to stop thinking everybody is out to ridicule Messi.

I was just trying to say it all depends on what Reus wants 'remain the Big Fish in a small poddle' or 'a small fish in a large ocean'

Reus coming to Barcelona will end up like every other player "PLAY FOR THE STAR PLAYER AKA MESSI" and will still have chance at silverware.
Reus going to Liverpool will turn in into the star player for the Reds. this has its perks too but chances of silverware is not so high.
seriously, where do you guys get these illusions from? the fact that the whole of real madrid are slaves to ronaldo doesnt automatically mean that the same applies to messi. it's not possible that messi gives the highest amount of assists to his team mates and you still say they play for messi. it defies logic and common sense really. 80 mins out of 90 messi leaves his positions and drops to midfield just to help the team, especially when the game gets tough. bro you need to sing a new song.

The idea is for him to play as our right Winger...How can Suarez be shifted to that position just to accommodate Messi?
Having him there will allow Messi play as our Attacking midfielder, while also having the freedom to play his game..This way, both Rakitic and either of Masch/Busquets will back him up behind!!
And then,Suarez can play his natural position!!
@ bolded; wrong language. it's messi to be shifted to accommodate suarez, not 'suarez being shifted to accommodate messi'. by the way, i guess you mean; reus on the right, messi tru the middle, iniesta on the left, suarez up front. then where does neymar play? where does rakitic fit in? and then busquets nko? we need two and not only one defensive minded midfielders! i think reus is a left sided midfielder, hope iam correct. a very good alternative to don andreas.

You just jumped into the thread and started writing what you feel. You are missing the argument.

Messi was unstoppable. No footballer could compete with him. Gary Lineker said what they did ones in their career to make them legends, Messi did those things three or four times in every match he played.

So no line is saying CR7 was better than Messi when Messi was amazing.

The question is, can Messi perform at the level he used to perform again? CR7 has gotten better over the years. Do you think Messi can get back to that level?
lol. okay sorry i missed the point. the thing is that so many people derailed from the discuss, i dont know why they had to bring ronaldo into it. frankly i dont think messi can get back to that level. but at his present level i still consider him at the top, the only thing is that the goals are not coming. but the will come again, it happens to every player.

dont believe the hype everybody. the biggest fan base in the world is in the epl. and they hate messi and love ronaldo. the question is WHY?
-ronaldo played for manchester united while messi destroyed manchester united TWICE.
-ronaldo in the epl always flopped against arsenal and the big four while messi has destroyed arsenal at least THRICE.
-ronaldo in the epl flopped against man city but messi destroyed man city.
-ronaldo in the epl flopped against chelsea and the big four while messi still cannot be forgiven for del horno's sins in 2006.
so my fellow football fans whenever you see a lot of stup1d comments of hatred about messi these are some of the reasons above. just because he came second and not first in the last ballon dor, just because he was definitely the best player at the world cup just this year(for the haters at least he was among the 5 best players you must agree;FOR THE HATERS ONLY), just because he is not scoring hattricks week in week out, just because for the first time in 6 YEARS he was not named the best player in la liga, they come up with a dumb thread like this one? a guy with the best stat in europe in 2014 : 43 goals 22 assists? guys give it up, there's nothing we can do about it, it's simple, epl fans, ladies and crooked men love ronaldo, football fans love messi.

Nawa o, Messi is now the subject of every ridicule now. From not deserving any of his past Ballon D'ors to forming big man, from being selfish to being too short, from influencing coaches instructions to selecting players to play with, from being a sickler to not being a superman, from being invisible to not deserving golden ball . Need I say more? The latest now is that he did not pass the ball to Suares in the classico, as if we didnt watch the match. Did Suares complained about such? or the media are trying to cause disharmony in the team? Was there a clear example of when Messi had the ball with Suares free and asking for the ball? Imagine getting bashed like this everyday, how will he be motivated? Messi this, Messi that, Abegi give the guy a break jor
coupled with injury problems and tax problems. the guy has suffered so much. then sepp blatter comes out to say messi didnt deserve the golden ball; on a day the ballon dor contest begins. just imagine it was ronaldo, the whole world would suggest he said it so that ronaldo would not get any votes. and messi's camp is quiet about it, his agent is quiet about it, his club is quiet about it. unlike ronaldo no one speaks for him. sometimes it is stup1d to keep silent. the old man is really out of his mind, his says something stup1d every single time he opens his mouth.

Fair enough... It's better for them to interchange every now and then to suit to the team and each individual. Playing Messi still on the false 9 position wouldn't be odd as it were, but let's face it, it will definitely hamper and lessen other forwards' impact. Ney thriving this season ain't just about adaptation, but also about the freedom to drift to the centre forward position when needed (as opposed to last season that he was always playing wide, plus Lucho prefers his forwards to play it narrowly and thereby allowing the fullbacks to occupy the flanks). On the flip side, saying Messi shouldn't be used in that position at all might not end up well.

Besides, our formation now is a bit different from other years. Though same 4-3-3, but with a variant on the front 3. That is, 4-3-1-2, with Messi playing behind them front two. He has been playing in that position thus far. Moreover, he has the freedom to roam anywhere on the pitch as the coach has given him the freedom to do so. The other forwards (or players) just need to time his movements and runs to not run into eachother when he decides to take on players himself.
thats what i mean. trust me even if his name appears at the centre forward position on the team sheet, you will always find messi in midfield. suarez and neymar will then always have good shots at goal. with dani alvez still overlapping suarez will always be found in the opponent's box, trust me.

Goals go plenty mehn... cheesy
trust me it's not going to be difficult. when madrid started this season they fumbled in their first 3 games. people said they were a new team trying to gel. but the reality is that barca has been more of a new team than madrid. from last season's team, madrid only introduced james, and kroos. from last season's team we introduced rakitic, mathieu, munir, sandro, even douglas. yet we are topping the table. everyone will see. when suarez blends in, after maybe 3 games we will be invincible. the great thing is that messi is not someone that operates aroung the box. he operates and runs in from the midfield and that will give suarez and neymar great opportunities to get into good goal scoring positions.

luis enrique should give the 3 of them freedom up front simple. let them just understand themselves and adjust to suit one another for the good of the team. that would be a bit fair on messi. but if he decides to give suarez a permanent centre forward position, he would be sowing a seed of discord.

I don't see any problems here bro, playing Suarez as a direct centre forward will do us more good rather than having Messi as false nine. After all, Messi plays more of a midfielder these days and that position is always left vacant.
a lot of people say that messi has declined. but if you ask me, with 9 goals and 9 assists so far, he has the best stats in the whole of europe this season. not even ronaldo with 19 goals and 2 assists(with 6 penalties) is as impressive as 9 goals, 9 assists. and thats where the problem comes again. till tomorrow he has a duel with ronaldo. to a lot of people ronaldo has destroyed messi. yes thats the word they use- DESTROYED! simply because he has scored much more goals than messi. in football nowadays, the one who scores most is the best player in the world. to keep messi happy, he must be the best player in the world. let suarez play from the left. it doesnt matter. sometimes, infact so many times you see messi on the right and neymar in the centre forward position or you see messi in the midfied and neymar upfront. messi has always accommodated them. he never stops them from drifting to the centre forward position and he gives passes to them.

Eruditor:
Criticising the coach will be overstating the facts for me. It is well known on this street the obvious dislike I have for Lucho but what's been done has been done so no need to cry over spilled milk.

I had no problem with playing Pique in centre half position but I maintain that we should have paired him with Mattieu while Alves and Alba maintained their regular positions. Macherano and NOT Busquets should have been the DM.

Most of us criticising Pique forget to realize that Madrid started out by trying to pull crosses through from Alves' wing for CR7 but it failed to yield on a couple of occasions courtesy Pique. It was after this that they preferred to play the crosses on the ground and one of such instances created the handball and thereby penalty.

Alves wasn't to blame in totality too. Suarez who played on that wing was supposed to help with the defensive duties but he rarely did and this left Alves exposed to mark Marcelo and atimes Isco or CR7 all through the game. Even When Hamez Rodriguez got the ball on left of our defence, he always switched it back to Alves' wing because that was the major leakage.

Mattieu didn't have a bad game defending against Caraval and James. Neymar on occasions too helped and we safely neutralized them and I think he should be commended for doing such.

Concerning Neymar and Mattieu up front there was nothing going and this is partly because Caraval was brilliant and also because Iniesta lacked ideas all game.Xavi too was slow and equally bereft especially since Madrid played 2 CMFs in front of their back 4.

I will never blame Suarez for his contributions. He did very well. If anything I will blame the midfielders for not reading his runs all the time. Suarez attempted to make good runs in behind the defence but the players were much more interested in tiki takaing their way into oblivion and even when Rakitic came on, he continued with the same folly. A few times he was through on goal to have a shot but he rather passed the ball to the side that is, to either Messi or Alves. It was so disappointing as Madrid would have conceded if we played any more direct than we did.

As per Messi, he did no wrong all game apart from lose steam as soon as Madrids 3rd goal came in. Not only him but the whole team and this is solely the managers fault. We had up to 25mins to muster a come back but somehow the body language of the players kept saying "we have lost and we know it". That's not the Barca attitude.

As for those criticising Messis indifference after losing the ball, you have to remember that he had a yellow card as early as the 8th min or so and he was forced to play on thin ice till game end. Same with Neymar and a host of others and they didn't want to get a Red card.

At the end of the day, we lost to 3 semi-unforced errors. The second goal was the worst of all. We still haven't learnt to defend against Cornerkicks. I don't understand how Sergio Ramos and Pepe (2 of the 3 best headers in RM) were left unattended to. That is criminal if not diabolical and we made same school boy errors against PSG this season.

Oh well, all hope isn't lost. We can be more pragmatic at times. Messi should be encouraged to drive into the box and get fouled for a penalty. Neymar can do so too. We can also employ counter attacks and direct passes to the forward players instead of passing the ball side to side (sometimes hopelessly). It took the players 30 odd mins to realize how high up Rayo Vallecano's defence was set up before we used direct long passes to expose them and score 2 goals. That's not good enough for a team of Barcas quality. And on Lucho we placed the responsibilities of such requisite intelligence but so far he has failed to deliver on the big occasions.

My hope is that he is learning. RM are still bread for us.
nice one my brother.
