We call the first one okoso in my domain, that brings me to remember my class mate in ADSS Bori camp.He is called Tururuu. Back then we use to play a game if you roll it and cut it and it close and the next man fail to do same, he will place his hand on the floor and u will use the Okoso to knock his hand. If Tururuu knocks us blood will come out but when knock him, his skin will open but blood won’t come out. So my friend noticed it and said is high time we stop because Tururuu does not have blood and he is waisting our blood. No be enh Tururuu hear am come begin fight me and my friend, saying why we say he no get blood. But truly it is obvious that he does not have blood.

I met this fine geh at a tech event in Lagos.

Both her first and last names were English.

When I got home, I texted her, I asked, gently, “Don’t you have an Igbo name?”

Her reply?

“I don’t like my Igbo name, and I don’t like speaking Igbo either.”

That one message drained everything I felt for her.

It wasn’t about tribal pride or anything dramatic, it was just the realization that we might see identity differently.
Because for me, being Igbo isn’t just where I’m from, it’s who I am. It’s the rhythm in my thoughts, the tone in my laughter, the root of my values.

And when someone rejects that part of themselves, it feels like they’ve rejected a part of me too.

So yeah… I ghosted her.
Not because she wasn’t amazing, but because something in me went cold.

I will look at their faces left to right and tell them the truth. And the truth is that I will run without looking back. I’m not looking for work because I like work. If I likework so much I will go to my village and make sure no grass grow where its not needed. I don't smoke, but also I don't look down on people who smoke.

But still, I can't help but wonder: what's so addictive about smoking? And why do people still choose to smoke up on all the warnings and health risks?

Just the other day I came across an empty pack of cigarettes. Lo and behold, they've graduated from just writing "smokers are liable to die young" to know using graphic images of a severely cigarette-damaged lung. All this in a to dissuade people from smoking.

So, my question is, why do people still smoke when the disadvantages are so glaring?
