Option A is the best. Option B might not work why? The spouse would most likely be denied a Visit visa to Canada because of the sponsorship application in progress (True story). amdman: People that adding spouse as accompanying is severely affecting their points can actually consider going alone and sponsoring their spouse subsequently. They would then have the following options
OPTION A 1. PA lands in Canada 2. Files for spouse sponsorship (no specified time restrictions) 3. Application is granted within 1yr.
OPTION B 1. PA lands in Canada 2. Files for spouse sponsorship 3. Spouse goes over to Canada on a visit visa 4. Spouse applies for extension of visit visa and open work permit pending when sponsor application is granted. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=1163&top=17
The above is sweetened by the fact that for sponsoring spouse, it is not required for the sponsor to show that he is earning a robust income in Canada.
Contributions and critique of the above options required please. |

Please, how do you meet people in new cities as I am currently friendless in Mississauga
Hi Deda3103, I am relatively new in Mississauga myself and will not mind connecting if you are open to that as well. For sure. |

It has been a crazy and emotional journey for me so far. 2016- MSc programme at the University of Saskatchewan. 2017- Moved to Ontario (Job opportunities) and the hustle began! A friend who graduated at the same time as I got a good job and had me wondering if I was not good enough. I literally slept and woke up on my laptop. I lost an opportunity because my work permit was not ready. After almost three months of editing, structuring, matching and sending out resumes to companies. I recently got an entry-level job in a bank. I believe it is a great way to start my banking career, take the financial exams etc. Everyone will have different timelines, just stay focused and optimistic. Shun any negativity thrown your way. For example, a friend of mine was always flaunting his salary in every conversation which sometimes made me feel bad cos I was on $0 (lol). I have not gotten there yet but I am pushing through. Someone might land today and become the manager of Company Z and while another might struggle for three years. As long as you work -regardless of the type of job you do- to put food on your table, be thankful. Currently on the lookout for evening and weekend jobs to do, as exams are expensive and rent is not a joke . We will all look back and smile. #MayOurHustlePayOff |

Nogen: Meeen! The cold got a better part of me yesterday. I came back exhausted!
My house hunt yesterday took an interesting turn. I saw an advert on kijiji about a fully furnished apartment for 750$ a month. In my mind, it's a great deal. I took a taxi to the apartment and I wasn't satisfied. Na wao for these Canadians , they said fully furnished but I met nearly empty apartment. 2 dirty sofas in the living room, cooker, fridge , Internet. That's all. Is this what I will pay 750$ monthly? No space for my kids to play except I take them to a nearby park.
I left the place to a second apartment , managed by the same agent. A 3 and half , better than the first one at 550 dollars a month. Has 2 dirty sofas again. I looked at the environment and said maybe we could manage this.
I then went to look for Service Canada office to obtain my Social Security number. The house agent took me to the mall instead. God works in mysterious ways. I used the opportunity to buy a few things we needed . Was about to call a taxi when my phone went flat. I saw a black guy sitting somewhere in the mall. I approached him and begged him to please call me a taxi that my phone was flat. He asked where I was going to. I told him. He brought out his phone and the next thing he said, " Come , let me drop you off to the place" I was scared. He sensed that and quickly introduced himself as a Malian and asked me where I came from. I said I'm Nigerian. He was perplexed! A Nigerian in Sherbrooke ? You guys go to Toronto and the Anglophone provinces not French!
Then I became relaxed and he took me there. We got talking and he got to know about my house search. He waited for me to get my Number and he then took me to his Caretaker after introducing me to his wife and 2 children. I became totally comfortable. He brought me back to the hotel , met my husband and children. An hour later, he came back and picked me up to see the apartment the Caretaker spoke about earlier.
I fell in love immediately! It has all that I asked for. Large space at the back and at the front, a garage, a storage facility outside, 2 large bedrooms, a modern cooker, big fridge, heater, hot water and a serene environment and I even have a small garden. 5 minutes walk to the Mall, 2 mins walk to an elementary school and a Daycare center. It also came cheaper at 525 dollar a month. The only thing is that we can't move in until the 3rd of January and I have to pay 35 dollars a month for electricity.
He agreed to be my guarantor and the wife is taking me to stores where I can buy stuffs for the apartment at a reasonable rate. He is coming this morning to take me to the Landlord and sign the contract. He is an Angel sent by God to help me at this very critical point in my life. God really works in mysterious ways. Welcome to Canada and enjoy you stay in Quebec. |

luciano80: Hello to all past n recent Canny settlers!!! We dey una back. A quick one......Is there any kind of "rule" to the size of accommodation one has to rent as to his number of dependents I mean, would it be frowned upon if a family of two kids decide to go for a one bedroom apartment? They would frown at it and I heard you can get reported for that also. Some people don’t even allow a couple and would specify one person only for a one -bedroom apartment. |

Got my medical passed update and passport request this morning. Dropped my passport at vfs this afternoon. Below is my timeline.

Tax clearance and work ID. Conditional admission letter and mails from the school stating I have satisfied the conditions, but they don't send updated admission letters. (They needed my official transcripts and original BSc certificate)
Sponsors (Parents) Mother : International passport data page UK visa Bank statements of 2m balance Cooperative letter of introduction Letter of introduction from employer. Letter of sponsorship Payslip Employment letter (in her maiden name), change of name acknowledgment from employer and marriage certificate. Vice principal appointment letter. I made a mistake on my family information form (inputted my siblings names under children) which I noticed, sent a case enquiry and the response was to send a mail to Accra immigration. Also, I sent two case enquiries when my application was over 10 weeks. Got a response today...lol
My mum's inflow came in from her cooperative society, hence the letter to prevent sudden inflow suspicion. I was denied UK visa in November and I stated it clearly on the IMM 1294.
I applied in the comfort of my bedroom. Got a lot of information from nairaland before applying.
To fellow TRV hopefuls, don't despair; We didn't come this far to only come this far.
The wait was terrible, once I begin to lose hope, I say to myself I will bless the Lord at all times, his praise shall continually be in my mouth to clear any negative thoughts.
It shall all end in praise. |
