advocate666: What you call "culture and tradition" is always evolving. We accept what suits us, enrich it and discard the rest. We didn't have Kings untill the british brought their warrant chief nonsense. Today, I can say that kingship is part of our culture. Don't you agree?

One thing we must not do is let "culture and tradition" drag us backwards. Even the europeans you mentionned had and still have sexist customs which they are gradually doing away with. For example, the next heir to the throne of England will no longer depend on the gender of the firstborn.
If you think there is any monarchical institution in Igbo land other than pretentious royal shenanigans, I shall leave you with your thoughts. I do not see how our culture and tradition drag us backward but the lack of our culture and tradition seemed to be the bane of our stumped growth and development within our society.

It is a display of avoidable ignorance for any Africans to cow tow to seemingly moderation of cultural attributes of Europeans, if any. It is very silly to insinuate that whatever crap Europeans vomit becomes a model for culture and tradition in Igbo Land.

Ndigbo are wise enough to encourage certain modernization, where appropriate, in our culture and tradition without following sheepishly what other people do. Africans are mostly behind in every human endeavor because they (Africans) have abandoned what is native and natural to them to pursue what is incongruously alien to them.

What has the change of England’s next hair to its throne that depends on the gender of firstborn got to do with Ikeduru or Uratta or Igbo culture and tradition?
PoliticsRe: Northern Senators Meet Over Igbo Domination In Army by Dede1(m):
The malnourished cretins are at it again in the jungle called Nigeria. They started with their imbecilic public disturbance (boko-haram) in northern regions of Nigerian and recently embarked on the political distortions and smear campaigns against any Igbo person who heads a ministry or governmental agency.

When the first Boko Haram or Mend bomb exploded in Abuja, these moronic dingbats from the north and their lily-hearted surrogate sons and daughters from southern Nigeria mounted on a political pulpit calling for dismissal of Capt. Emma Ihieanacho as the minister of Internal Affaire as if the ministry ever controls ordinary armed women.

However, since the firing of Capt Ihianacho, Abuja and other parts of the country have been constantly subjected under the barrage of bombs. Yet no nitwit has called for the head of Minister for Internal Affairs because he\she is not Igbo. IG Ogbonnaya Onovo was hurried out of Abuja as if he created the act of kidnapping.

I am not surprised the noise decibels that originate form political cries instigated by loudmouthed ingrates and the dirty cows could crash the hell wide open because an Igbo is involved. Not long ago, it was the turn of one Mrs R Uzoma to go because she refused to succumb to the tribal tinted demands of a minister from northern region of Nigeria. I still wonder why the minister should even last for one day in office chasing appointments while country is pummeled by Boko Haram. Of course, the minister is a so-called northerner.

Now, it is the turn of Lt Gen Ihiejirika to go because yet again he is Igbo. These events are sure footprints of human endeavors that led to January 15, 1966 coup which in turn saw the July 29, 1966 coup and led to military attack on Biafra by Gowon-led Nigeria. Most imbecilic ninnies who thought recorded events are mainly for the wise tend to commit this same blunder over and over again only to blame their idiocy on someone else.

advocate666: What?!

I don't see how any of those could be classified as a "quality". Dede m, please, this is 21st century.
Bros, what has 21st century got to do with Igbo culture and tradition as we know it? I guess you are not among those people who would readily throw question such “did you go to school at all” when culture and tradition are being observed.

Europeans built schools for us and never introduced curriculum to teach culture and tradition. I guess the Europeans are very smart indeed.

One of most cardinal qualities of Umuada Igbo is unconditional respect and submissiveness to their men.

advocate666: I think the point of my question about ogugua's igboship is: do we accept as igbo, anybody that call him/herself igbo? If yes, why do we accept ogugua as Igbo but reject Alj Harem when he says he's igbo?

I just want to point out to manny4life that stating that you are igbo is not sufficient. There are other indicators.

@ ogugua88, you may well be igbo but I have yet to see evidence. The only evidence I have seen so far is you saying the international court of justice should ask if we committed treason by wanting to separate from nigeria; you saying that we should emulate boko haram; you saying that igbos are killers and kidnappers; you telling us "odeshi" when we pointed this out.
I have long learnt that talk is cheap. The taste of pudding is in the eating.

manny4life: Ok brother, YOU WIN!!!
Bros, I am not in the business of win, lose or in a bid to ascertain the mice holes where everybody crawled out especially on a scene such as Internet. As a matter of factual fact, I can fan the embers of the greatness of Yoruba on this forum yet it does not make me a Yoruba.

However, I have learnt through Interment and other channels that people tend to project the images of their ancestral forbearers in good taste even when few recorded events beg to differ.

The last thing that will ever cross my mind is to insinuate that every Igbo will believe and appreciate the Biafran cause. Besides, I have been studiously informed that saboteurs are abounded.
PoliticsRe: The Second Eze Ndi Igbo Parliamentary Office by Dede1(m):
manny4life: Bros, I know that you're expert at talking, your intelligence and wealth of talking knows no boundaries, hence the reason why I will keep silent to your talk. Any African who likes to be viewed as such, good luck to them... My post was VERY SIMPLE.

Where in my post suggested all these accusations? If you read my post indeed without any bias, my stance was very simple - the fact an Igbo man speak one or more languages shouldn't interfere with his ability to carry out his duties to Igbo people, neither should such actions make him an outcast or a sellout. Where you got all these ideas from, I seriously don't know. How he choose to identify himself outside the general scheme is up to him. When I go to China, is it Chinese or Igbo I'll speak to them? When I go to Germany, is it German or Igbo I'll speak to them? Again, what part of my post suggested this hateful comment?

I clearly stated in my post, when carrying out your duties, communicating in Igbo language is very important, because it's a sign of relevance and authority. Where in my post suggested otherwise? Na wa for you people o, yall know how to twist and turn issues upside down.. I guess those of us who speak Igbo and speak other languages, I guess we're not Igbos.

I also guess those Igbos who speak fluently in Yoruba, Hausa, French, German, etc are not Igbos. When conducting business, an Igbo man speaks Yoruba in Lagos, he's termed a sellout. When translating, an Igbo man communicates with others in Hausa or even Arabic, he's termed terrorist. A Igbo woman speaks Swahili, she's termed (what have you).

With the level of hate emanating from this thread and subsequent threads, need I say more that this is a mirror of reality of what's about to happen when Biafra come true. When I see comments like yours, it begs me to ask the question - are we ready for our own nation? Can't people speak other language without the fear of reproach?
You are the very character that introduced relevant use of French and Swahili in this discussion. I must call your attention to the fact that the subject matter was the issue of Biafra and Ndigbo. Nobody expected the so-call eze Nairaland to always speak Igbo language on this forum. Also I guess in your infinite wisdom, you do not correlate the use of languages other than Igbo with the sense of indifference towards the issues surrounding Biafra and Ndigbo.

It makes no difference if one chooses to despise the issue of Biafra and Ndigbo in Igbo, Hausa, Fulfulde, Yoruba or Swahili language. It amounts to silliness for one to remotely think that people give a slight hoot about the language one chooses to express oneself.

When a business is conducted between Japanese and Americans, it is imperative that both parties to understand the languages involved or hire people who speak and understand both languages. If this debate is not turning childish already, one wonders how conduct of commercial business in a certain language amounts to sellout. I should not ordinarily share the same nationality with a person who does naturally understand and speak my native vernacular. Nigeria is a colonial blunder hence the instances of Igbo speaking Yoruba in Lagos in order to conduct local business.

I had rather appreciate the work of a person who encourages the plight of Biafrans and Ndigbo in Yoruba or Hausa language in Nigeria than a moronic dullard who despises the course of Biafrans and Ndigbo in Igbo language.

The language a nincompoop blows does not validate his\her cherished ancestry but the fortitude of the person’s actions toward the course of his\her ancestry.
PoliticsRe: The Second Eze Ndi Igbo Parliamentary Office by Dede1(m):
manny4life: I'm not accusing you of anything, I was asking a comment based on your observation and reservation.

I don't know of what evidence you speak of, I've seen several threads, at least on the Igbo learning thread of EzePromoe, where Ogugua88 stated where she's from. I'm sure Odumchi have stated where he's from as well. So what evidence do you speak of?

Next, how do you define the term "Igbo"? To you, who's Igbo? Do you define Igbo based on birth location, or ability to speak Igbo language or natively and culturally being a part of it? These two people have stated where they're from, so really, what's the beef?

What I think about your second paragraph is highly irrelevant (no disrespect). I strongly believe that while language is a cultural representation, how you choose to identify yourself is totally different. When I came on NL, I was scared (fear of being mocked) of speaking Igbo, I did not want to say the wrong things, but thanks to lots of people on here who made it a duty to make sure Igbos (native speakers and learners) feel free to interact without fear of reproach, I became comfortable with myself.

That I speak several languages, and choose to speak say French or Swahili, does it make me a native to that place? Therefore, while language is very important to leadership, nonetheless, the language shouldn't be the a deterrent, the important issue is whether those whom we elected are up to and acting up to par according to our "Constitution" (i.e., if we have any). Speaking Igbo language is VERY IMPORTANT for every leader, particularly for communication, but it doesn't mean you can't learn nor adapt to other languages as well. On that note as well, because you can't speak doesn't make you a sellout either, as long as the willingness is there.

Let us kill this issue because it no validity at all. If at all, I was thinking Odumchi will be proactive in certain things (not to call our leader out), but reverse is the case. I barely see him in certain arguments, let alone defending the Igbo truths about certain lies propagated on this forum (opposite of Onlytruth), nevertheless, it's very unfair for me to compare two people particularly at infancy stage. The sooner we can squash the bickering, the better everyone can move forward.
The above redundant crap or skewed analogy is the reason Africans are tagged as people alien to critical thinking. If you attend United Nation’s conference and chose to express yourself in Swahili or French, I guess it is your misguided priority.

However, if you choose to express your in-depth knowledge of French or Swahili in Igbo conference centered on Igbo and Biafra related issues or show slight indifference to the course of Ndigbo in Biafra, your fellow conferees have every pedigree to question your Igbo ancestry. Ndigbo and Biafrans, as a matter of fact, never sat down to plan the manifestation of Biafra. They were pushed into Biafra by the imbecilic dingbats who have gone to every length in attempt to repudiate Ndigbo because of Biafra.

It is foolhardy to attempt to separate Igbo from Biafran issue since Ndigbo, directly or indirectly, led the secession in Biafra.

PointB: We do not have conclusive evidence to suggest that yet. I think we should all calm down and give them the benefit of any doubt. In any case, their regime is still nascent, and false starts are very probable. Let's calm down, and tone down.
Those who seemed piqued by the craps these nincompoops spew on this forum on the bases of holding independent view on subject matter such as Biafra and Ndigbo should be allowed to vomit their contrary yet independent views on the issues too.

I really do not give a ratazz about who masquerades him\herself as eze or eze nwanyi nairaland.

They are unashamedly serving the interest of Yoruba. It may go beyond mere serving the interest of Yoruba as their personal engagement in private life could point to something yet uncovered .

Bros, I am not worked up about what certain ninnies spew on this forum or overly excited about their pretentiousness. However, when the aforementioned dingbats create a pattern of flowering idiocy by displaying crass ignorance on the subjects they known little about, there is a need to caution them.
is it dishonorable for her to have independent and unalloyed view?
This pathetic miscreant has written extensive diatribes on Lt Gen Ihiejirika as a result of the alleged recent promotion in Nigerian army. Each of this fool’s craps was on the subject of the alleged tilted promotion exercise and centered on 1966, Biafra and Ndigbo. Yet this jackass has the effrontery to take issues on who have independent and unalloyed view or lack thereof.

An ill-informed independent and unalloyed view is a foolish one at best.

Andre Uweh: Firstly, Biafran issue is divisive. Second, an Igbo owned or dominated website would have been a better medium to propagate such course.
Andrew Uweh has always come across as person solidly schooled in the nuances of issue of Baifra or lack thereof. To say the least, I am completely flabbergasted when I read a post from Andrew Uweh insinuating that Biafra issues are divisive. Are the issues of Biafra divisive among the Ndigbo or among the so-called Nigerians? Sometimes, it is good for furious wind to blow so we can see……

I shall be disappointed if Biafra is not a lightening rod that invokes passion for independence, justice and freedom. Biafra can not be more divisive than it has been since its essence and course are to pursue happiness separately. There are group of people who are still suffering today and had been detached from what they had known as homeland because of the defeat of Biafra.

I shall not even pay attention to goons who remotely think that Biafra is separate issue from Ndigbo. Such a defeatist plank is conjured by weaklings who labored very hard so they can be accepted by their detractors. Most Nigerians have studiously worked on the psychic of certain people in Nigeria so they could distance themselves from Biafra while making holistic efforts to brand Biafra issue an Igbo affair. My people say a person who is rejected by his\her peers should not in turn reject oneself.

I shall curse any day the negative sentiments or regrets about the Biafra creep into my mind. Biafra shall remain the rallying cries of Ndigbo and fellow Biafrans too. From all the books written about the short life of Biafra and commentaries from eyewitnesses, I stand corrected that Biafra stood diametrically opposed to cesspit called Nigeria in every human endeavor.

Prof Corruption: If you can see it, what is there to highlight again?

He was called to listen to and appreciate a supposedly "detribalised" Nigerian personal history of Biafra. A brief article was written on what supposed to be truly authentic and factual but a factual rebuttal demonstrated that Iloh's actually chose to remember selectively and in substantial terms falsely. Iloh demonstrated a convenient volitional case of amnesia. The so called "detribalised" Nigerian ended up being a fraud and the prospect of exploring a memoir from his story is no longer exciting. Simple

In any case, there could not have been a "detribalised" Nigerian because the word itself does not exist.
Ill form of education is another great danger to African societies. There was no slight essence of detribalized sentiments or undisputable facts about Rev. Moses Iloh’s personal account of the Nigeria/Biafra war and thereafter. In addition, there is no contradicting schism towards Iloh’s account from Olisa Agbakoba.

In Biafra, Iloh was member of Red Cross while Olisa Agbakoba was a soldier. Even if the two were soldiers, they can not give identical accounts of the war since they might have fought in different sectors of the war. I had raised the same pointer when arguing with those who readily quote out of Madiebo’s book. Granted Madiebo was CAOS of Biafran Army, he was never present in every sector of the war.

Again, Rev. Moses Iloh’s brief encounter with Olisa’s father after war was peculiar incident which only Iloh or Olisa’s old count can attest. Where is the imaginary rebuttal insinuated by the poster in the above post?

ROSSIKE: My goodness you're drowning in ignorance. Why don't you actually spend time online to READ and LEARN things? Your knowledge of African history is zero. Which Africans fought Europeans with sticks?

''The Cordoban scholar Abu Ubayd al-Bakri collected stories from a number of travelers to the region, and gave a detailed description of the kingdom of Ghana in 1067. He claimed that Ghana could "put 200,000 men into the field, more than 40,000 of them archers" and noted they had cavalry forces as well.''

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghana_Empire

1067. Over 1,000 years ago.

Do you know what archers are? Do you know what cavalry means? Where are the sticks, and which white man brough a sword to Ghana in 1067?

I mean, you're a total embarrassment. Go and read African history before posting further here.
You are a companion of ignorance. Which Ghana Empire were you talking about? Was it Ghana Empire of Mansa Kanka Wali Musa or later days of Ashantehenes of Oti Akatene, Osei Otutu or Obiri Yaboa? After all moronic scholars in the class of Abu Ubayd al-Bakri such as Abu Ibun Batuta gave the wrong theory of River Niger.
