Politics / Re: NLC Rejects New Tax On Carbonate Drinks Says It Will Cause Mass Hunger, Hardship by Dee60: 12:15pm On Jan 08, 2022

What mass hunger are these dolts talking about? Do they even know what they are talking about ? Mass hunger to buy carbonated drinks ? Higher prices for sure but those who want it have never been deterred by higher prices. They should charge the excise tax already. Glad to see nigeria is taking taxation more seriously now than before
.

The rich are not paying commensurate taxes. Large companies find there way to manouver with taxes. The tax net is not wide. They dont go to chase tax in Alaba, Idumota and th likes where big informal business is going on. Are we really taking tax serious? I think we are just increasing taxes to those who have been paying.

They increased VAT by 50% last year, a move which many people saw as counter-productive. So what have they achieved with that? Record high inflation. Unemployment. Rise in social vices.

We like to copy Britain and America in everything. Go to Dubai - low taxes, high productivity and high goverment revenue. This is Economics 001 for developing countries. When you are really developed like the US and when your tax net is wide and you are able to provide a lot of services, when wealth has increased significantly, then you can toy with taxes. ECONOMICS 001.

6+ years after, this administration is still struggling to come to terms with basic thinking.

Government has no right whatsoever to regulate pricing for private businesses.

How do they encourage other entrants? That is what they need to look at. It is somewhat funny when you kill existing businesses (local and foreign) and at the same time you are spending money to go out looking for foreign investors!

How did you pass excellently last year and then fail the same exam woefully this year?
Are you growing in sense or is your brain leaking?

Seems the poverty on the land has become more miserable as it has now forced students to write their exams themselves because, extra cash to pay "mercenaries" is unavailable grin grin

Besides, this idea originated from the national assembly sometime ago but, it obviously cant be implemented because of the revenue benefits of maintaining it as it currently is

What's tha business?

Read his suggestion again. It is the bechmark that keeps changing. Your 296 may not qualify you in Year 2019 because the benchmark is 300. Then the benchmark changes to 296 in Year 2020 and somehow you score 295, should you be failed again? They should just admit you because you have met that benchmark before. That is the point. The suggestion is spot on.

Please tell our Governor that people are suffering so much in traffic.

It is either we phase the jobs (and not try to fix all major roads at the same time) or we find a way to deliver the jobs faster.

Politics / Re: Twitter Ban: Facebook, Instagram Must Register As Businesses In Nigeria – FG by Dee60: 6:15pm On Jun 09, 2021
Rossiminku:

Biggest middle class in Africa and biggest economy in Africa, with an annual GDP of 1.16 TRILLION dollars per annum, calculated by PPP (Purchasing Power Parity).

Twitter, by comparison, earned 1.2 billion dollars last year.

That is chicken change for top Nigerian business conglomerates, not to mention the Nigerian govt.

Twitter is shiit compared to Nigeria.

The world has gone far beyond this. Yes, Twitter would like to connect with the large number of enterprising youths in Nigeria but of what use is one administration to them? Soldier go, soldier comes, Twitter is still there? You forgot that Twitter completely took down the account of a sitting US President. How did that affect their business? Where is that account now? They just banned it for another 2 years. You may have forgotten that a section of the house has already asked Nigerians to continue to use Twitter.

Facebook rubbed salt on the injury when they deleted the same tweet government complained about. Please is FB not scared of Nigeria? And why has the government not banned FB?

In my opinion, what we have just done is cheap publicity for Twitter. When government lifts the ban you will see how many people will jump to have accounts, those that did nt even think of opening Twitter before now.

The North is the problem of the north.

If they allow merit and competition they would have become like Dubai perhaps. But their short-sightedness is what has made it the centre of banditry today.

When you insist that your people can get 40/400 and gain admission whereas a southerner with 240/400 cannot, you just end up breeding mediocrity all the time.

This person followed a different path. Maybe his parents were enlightened to guide him on the path of excellence. It is paying off for him. Thank God he did not allow his talent to end up in the forest waiting to collect ransom.
