You have a point.. the only problem is that even the Banks are crooked.. they get Dollar allocations too like the BDCs but they hoard instead of transacting with them..

The EFCC is trying to clean up the system of street-trading and we can only implore them to sustain the monentum.. it's going to be hard tho. They deserve some commendation for the little they have done esp in Zone4 Abuja.. that place used to be a free-for-all but there is some level of moderation now..

An analogy is almost like those that trade fuel on the road. It is those who need them and patronise them that are encouraging the trade. If nobody is buying, you won't see them on street.. but then you have to move your car from A to B and the fueling stations have endless queues or no fuel sometimes..

The wayout is to boost your foreign reserve via exports and productivity, and discourage the need for Dollars as much as possible.. Productivity is a double edged sword.. because it makes Items people would pay dollars to import available locally and earns you foreign exchange when you export excess to outside country...

the government only pay lip services to banning transactions in dollars in the country. People still pay their wards school fees in dollars.. The political class are still converting their loots into dollars on a daily basis.. the EFCC and NFIU needs to device a means to nip money laundering at source.. but again the Banks have not been helping..!

Nigeria is wild..

Banks cannot be crooked unless the bankers' bank itself is crooked!

the solution is not only the military and obj have continually emphasized this but the governments of Gej, buhari and now Tinubu keep ignoring this advice. unemployment is a major cause, the majority of these youths can't see any alternative so they just take to these bad vices, if you tell them to leave banditry, the next question will be what will they be doing, so they need to be engaged.
there is no way the military can win this war, in fact the gangs are increasing daily and getting more members, the question we should be asking is why are young people joining them?

https://www.vanguardngr.com/2024/03/unemployment-fueling-rising-banditry-kidnappings-in-nigeria-obasanjo/

“If we are able to give them employment, there will be less of them getting involved in banditry, in kidnapping and in doing various other criminal activities that they get involved in,” he added.

What employment can you give a person who thinks he can get tens of millions a week through banditry? As long as these people see gross thieving going on in state houses, nass, etc, it will be hard to convince them to work.

Mr Tola is a farmer. At the end of the season he harvested 100 tubers of Yam. He called his children and said I will give you first right of refusal to buy at N1000 each. They were happy. Mr Tola was happy also because he made some profits. Win-Win. Next season he harvested same 100 tubers of Yam. He told them that inflation (as a result of devaluation) affected the inputs he used. He raised the price to N2000 per tuber of yam. 3 of his 10 children could not afford and went on to starve. The other 7 bought less yams. At the end of first season he made N100,000. (100x1000). At the end of the second season he sold 60 tubers to those who could afford and made N120,000 (60x2000). 40 tubers were left to rot away. Should Mr Tola be throwing a party that he made more money while some of his children are starving?

To a lame man, high taxation should drive away businesses and investors But are investors running out of lagos or trooping to Lagos.

Taxation is bad only from an emotional POV

They have not increased taxes. Tax is a % of revenue. Revenue is derived from Volume and Price. Price has gone up significantly. Volume has dropped. You get a nominal increase that does not mean growth. It is just the effect of price increase. If Naira gains value and prices drop, if volume remains as is today, the VAT will drop. It is just the price effect you are seeing.

Devaluation in simple english means that you REMOvE value.

Value Added Tax means the tax that is derived when value is added.

Value has been grossly removed through devaluation leading to sharp increase in prices.

You tax the new prices and get a bigger nominal tax.

That is not growth.

It is like one big club in London adding 1 behind their zero and claiming they have won by 5-10

It’s just nominal paper figures not real growth

Dollar under buhari was 400 plus, and 1k plus under Tinubu

Our source of revenue is oil and imports which are all dollar denominated. By the time you convert to a devalued naira it should increase of course. That’s not growth, that’s devaluation

It is recession.

Increase in VAT when the GDP has moved from number 1 to number 4 in Africa.

When will Nigerians think out of the box

Dont mind them. There is nothing to celebrate here. Under Tinubu price of PMS went from N147/litre to N600/litre and price of dollar from N630 to N1300. The ripple efect went round and all prices have become at least double. Even with ZERO growth the VAT should at least double. What this new report means is that the economy is actually in RECESSION (negative growth). What is there to celebrate in this? Simple Math and simple common sense is lost when people rule by propaganda.

Every month without 3 deficits in a role. Why make it look like it's outright buying?

Congratulations all the way on their mortgage

In 30 years after school many in Nigeria are still not owning anything! There is nothing bad with mortgage if youhave ajob. Mortgage is better than paying rent for 30 years and still not owning. As you can see the house belongs to them now, mortgage or no mortgage. It is their home. They can use that to access more facilities. They can renovate the way they like. They can plant flowers. They have an address they are not sharing with anybody. Please let them celebrate their new step and thank God.

The writer is right. A friend told me how she decided to reduce or even stop going to her gym because the place has become a center for showing buttocks and breasts and she would not like to be associated with such. Gym wears are meant to be worn appropriately, but these days some women choose to wear their to seduce men. A lot is going on in gyms. Truth is that people are really out to seduce...

Political thieves changed those dollars we were told they had in warehouses to dollars. Now they’re letting it go without much support. They burnt 1bn dollars in 30 days

Which countries have 2 currencies of different colors operating at the same time without phasing one out?

Tinubu and his boys are a scam. There may be a lot of activity but no progress. Na retrogression

Fake news. Even Bloomberg that publsihed the fake news have made clarifications. CBN has not dropped dollars in the black market for rates to drop. It is those hoarding dollars (presumably politicians) that threw out their dollars thinking the rates will keep falling. Now they have resumed hoarding. There is no single reason or fundamental for Naira to keep losing value except for corruption and economic sabotage. EFCC should identify and go after the saboteurs, hoping that Nigerians will not protest and start saying 'leave our man alone'!

Well, I don't know what to believe now because he himself said the lady that owns the sealed building has a store where she sells Chinese stuffs but could not show us the store. So it's possible there is a supermarket (big or small). One thing that we can say is a fact is that, there's is a store in that estate. Maybe that guy was denied access to the estate and not the store or he was actually denied access to the store.

What was the guy looking for in a private facility? I can choose to sell things from my house only to people I know. That is private. FCCPC was just flexing muscles for nothing. There was no need to have sealed the place. It is important to seperate emotions from reality. There are places like this in Lagos. They do home chinese cooking for family & freinds. What is bad in that? From the look of things, there are no adverts, there is a locked gate etc. What is anyone doing there? What would you go there to buy?

Typical nonsense reaction, pretending that they are not aware that bullying is going on under their noses. It goes beyond the school management though, some of the blame goes to the parents (especially mothers). I have seen a case where a boy was punished for wrong-doing only for the mother to come to the school to fight the teacher and to warn the teacher never to touch his son. Some parents say things like - 'It is teaching that I paid you teacher for, dont ever punish my son, just stay with your teaching'! This attitude of parents is what makes teachers and principals to turn their backs at some of the wrongs the kids do!

Chinese sell things that can irritate Nigerians. What if you go in there and you find lizards of different types and sizes, cocroaches and stuff like that? They also have places inside inside where the eat! If you are close to a Chinese they will take you inside. It may not be discriminatory as people are concluding!

We spend all the money in the world to carry contigents to several countries to beg them to bring in their funds and invest here. Then we chase those who accept to come. Do we think these nations are stupid? Can you count how many serious investors have fled in the last 20 years? ShopRite has sold out. We once flew Virgin Nigeria! They didnt stay here for 10 years and they vowed never to come back. Where is GSK? Where is Unilever? We just want to run a 'satchet economy' here. Sad. What he may not realize is this - If this story is true (and not fiction) the lady may have others plans apart from relocating. The man should not take the other threats from the lady lightly.

wrongnumber:

Redenomination is the best way out

Redenomination is the reduction in the par value of a currency by a factor of ten, hundred or a thousand.

That is, the worth of goods with which an individual can consume with a thousand Naira would automatically be consumed with a Naira or 10 naira depending on the redenominated value.

It is not a permanent fix but a good way to reboot the economy.

The government will now need to implement good policies that when combined with redomination will bring about a lasting solution

Ghana did that a few years ago. It has not helped them in the long term. This government must fight systemic corruption if they must suceed. There is nothing yet to show they are ready for that. They seem to be too busy doing 'beta' things.

I said it there is nothing the CBN governor can do..
The solution is nigeria to be a producing economy ...more exportation of goods and less Importation of goods and for nigerians to value, buy, patronize what they have in their country.,all this traveling to abroad to school in foreign universities, travel for medical treatment abroad , buying foreign cars are the cause of all these dollars rising everyday and naira losing value..,we have to value, patronize what we have in this country..not everytime... foreign things, foreign universities, foreign hospitals...the solution is the country earning high in dollars and less demand for dollars

You have a point but you need to check out Cuba abd North Korea. It is this kind of reasoning that killed their economies and threw their people to hunger. Nigeria is exporting a lot. We can and should export more. Our earnings from crude oil (and now from refined oil) surpasses the genuine demand for forex. The problem is with the crude oil. There is no accountability and no transparency. The dollars we ought to have to keep a healthy economy may be hidden in toilets and latrines around the country.
