I returned to Nigeria to find that OAU (Great Ife) was even struggling to be in the top 10 universities in Nigeria. It was and remains a shock how far schools like OAU, UNN, UI have fallen . What happened ![]() Even LASU is now preferred by students over UNN, UI, OAU. |
What a headline. Mr Dangote does not own petrol stations anywhere in Nigeria. |
ozo13:Some old federal government loan repayments are due in November, I think, amounting to more than $2 billion. I read that somewhere some weeks ago. If we end the year around $40 billion, that would be good. |
IMF generally takes a more mature approach in its reports. If things are positive or negative it says so in clear, unbiased terms. The World Bank on the other hand is petty, nitpicking and desperate for relevance always cho cho cho. This week economy is doing well. 2 weeks later inflation is a problem o. Next month the number of people in poverty is highest in the world. Another time, Nigeria must invest in infrastructure to boost the economy and reduce poverty. The next minute government expenditure in infrastructure is making inflation worse! Haba, but you were the same institution that said the government must spend on infrastructure. You almost feel the World Bank staff are on Nairaland or twitter looking for popular topics that it can spin with negative reports for cheap publicity. |
There could be some truth in what the lady said. Only women would know anyway. From the way many men talk on Nairaland, it's mostly about how many rounds, how hard and fast a man can go etc That is not the right approach. If you know what you're doing your lady will usually be 'satisfied' within 20 mins and she will get to such heights that she'll probably doze off or just relax, smiling, and quiet and barely have strength to even talk.Unfortunately most men seem to focus on doing it 4 or 5 times, even if the woman doesn't come a single time. I think a lot of people learn and practice what they see in porn, but that doesn't work for many women. |
But this man was throwing punches at the PDP national headquarters in Abuja just 3 or 4 months ago as if it was PDP or nothing. A whole national secretary o. And now, he's already moving to the APC ![]() How do politicians explain this type of unreliable characteristic to their wife and children at home. As a man, the one thing you worry about the most is being seen as lacking integrity by your wife, and children. How do politicians explain their behaviour at home. |
Scorpio99:Out of about 200 countries around the world and a global population of over 7 billion people, El Salvador, a tiny poor country with a population of just 6.5 million people - probably same population as Ibadan, is the solitary example that bitcoin advocates are holding on to? Even in El Salvador, its use is limited. |
silverlinen:Forex...another kalo kalo. More than 90% of all individuals around the world who trade forex end up losing money in the long run. So even if someone is winning today, there is a very high chance that person will lose all their money including the winnings in the future. Forex trading is dangerous. Very dangerous. |
Scorpio99:Crypto adherents have been telling us for years about how blockchain will revolutionise the world. We are still waiting for that promise to come to fruition. While blochchain is having very limited application in industry, it is not getting adopted amongst the over 7 billion population of the world. So when will people be able to pay for a plate of rice and beans or pay for okada with Bitcoin? Another point is there are other better and more tangible investments that are doing better than the so called crypto. Crypto is not even an investment anyway. Just a bet that the prices will keep going up...for no reason whatsoever. |
If you buy shares of Zenith, GTB, Nestle etc,you become an investor in, and a co-owner of those companies. Those companies declare profit or loss at the end of each year, and your investment rises or falls according to their performance. Besides, the companies have physical assets like bank branches or in the case of Nestle warehouses, manufacturing sites, vehicles, office buildings etc. These are all assets that you see every day. They can't just disappear in a minute. If you buy bitcoin with the same money, you have just bought hot air. No factory,no products, services, no warehouse, no office,no head office, no staff,no managing director...absolutely nothing. There is not even a company called Bitcoin. It's just people who don't know each other going on the Internet to buy from one another. The person you're buying from, you don't know. The company in charge? No company is in charge. The product you bought. No product. You just receive a number. Who generated the number, nobody. Just a computer. Where is the computer located. Nobody knows. Who is in charge in case something goes wrong with the number they sent you... nobody. How about an email address. None. Phone number nko...none. Surely, bitcoin is based in America? Nope. Sweden, nope. Russia? Nah. Ok, it must be in China or Japan. Nope. It has zero physical presence anywhere known to man. So what if I lose the number. Your money don go forever be that. Oh, there are also people who specialise in remotely stealing bitcoin numbers, so while you're sleeping, someone may be trying to steal your bitcoin. |
Been saying it for years, buying crypto is a loser's game. And it is a game. Exactly like playing Baba Ijebu or online betting, only more glamorous. One Satochi, allegedly from Japan, created this thing, bitcoin, which he tagged a currency. It is not backed by Gold, or government paraphernalia. You can't use it to buy bread, pay for transport or rent, or much else anything. It does not support any form of production. It is not even a physical thing you can touch or feel. It's basically just a number generated by a program/ code ![]() A group of young Americans hyped it up, told the rest of the world it is the next global currency. They sucked in people from poor countries like Nigeria who pump money into it. And then those Americans manipulate how and when it falls and rises making sure they make the most money while the deluded and clueless ones from poor countries wallow in loses. It is all fantasy. It is MMM. I challenge anyone to explain here how it is fundamentally different from playing Baba Ijebu or online betting. |
almarthins:So agencies of government can instantly know of all the building developments going on in a city of over 20 million people ![]() Also going by your logic, no one should be punished for any crime since the police should have stopped the crime from being committed in the first place. Can the police be every where at all times to prevent all and any crimes from being committed. Do you know any country in the world where that happens. |
Why should Lagos State government provide another site for him. Is operating the business under pylons legal or illegal. Some Nigerians just haven't truly understood what it means to organise and run a society under the law. |
The challenge is probably too widespread for a state of emergency to be effective. Niger state alone is bigger than many countries. Kwara, Bornu, Jigawa, Kogi, Sokoto have large geographical spread. If you declare a state of emergency in one, how about the others. The terrorists are very mobile. The move from state to state easily. Nigeria simply doesn't have enough army personnel to manage a state of emergency in more than 2 of these large states at the same time. |
lilvicky68:Groundnut, particularly the Nigerian and other African varieties have aflatoxin which can damage the liver. Aflatoxin is in most African soils, and groundnut in particularly take in so much of it as it grows in the soil. I personally don't eat groundnut much. But I guess it may not do much damage to people who eat moderate portions and not too often. The problem with people is we eat too much of everything. An individual can sit in his living room and eat a bowl of groundnut, or drink 5,6,7 or 8 oranges in one seating. Way too much. These ways of eating put too much pressure on the liver and kidney. If I were to eat groundnut, I would prefer boiled ones, as boiling reduces aflatoxin. |
ednut1:And Nigeria has one of the highest rates of undetected diabetes in the world. That's because most people don't test for diabetes or high blood sugar level. Diabetes is a silent killer. You can look perfectly healthy without any sign of it for 15 years, but by the time it shows its face, for a lot of people, they have to be on 3,4, or more medicines for the rest of their lives. Some don't live much longer after diabetes is detected because organs have been damaged. And these are people who never showed any outward sign of any ailments. Other countries eat bread, but usually as part of a sandwich including 2 or at most 4 slices of bread. In Nigeria, a person will eat half or a whole loaf of bread in one seating. And on top of that, drink a bottle of softdrinks and tell himself he's enjoying life. Hmm. |
If you're a man foods like bread, and soft drinks are also big time penis killer. May be when in your early 20s, youthful exuberance will give you a hard male organ even if bread and softdrinks is a big part of your diet. Howeever, if you keep eating the same way in your 30s and 40s, your penis will start being as hard as cotton wool. That is when you see today's men start getting desperate drinking one dangerous herb after another, or some fake medicines. If you're a married woman, you will do well to discourage your husband from eating like he is still a 16 year old. People should go back to eating yam, beans and other natural foods. Most foods that have gone through a factory or manufacturing process are not good for you, whether you're a male or female. The other day, out of interest, I looked on the back of the packet of one of the most eaten foods in Nigeria, and there were 11 artificial chemicals (they call it additives in order not to scare buyers) listed! Most people don't even bother to check these things. |
lilvicky68:Even worse. Bread on its own is a terrible processed food. Now, you add one of the worst things that an adult can ingest, a soft drink, hmm. No adult above the age of 30 should eat this combo more than once a month, if at all. The bad thing about these harmful foods is their almost irreversible negative health impact often doesn't show up for 20 years or more. By the time it shows up, the person may then have to be on medication for the rest of their life. It's better to start making good choices about food early in one's life. |
Two of the biggest causes of killer diseases in Nigeria are bread and rice. Nigerian bread is particularly unhealthy - they use excess magerine, salt, sugar etc. Magerine is damaging to heart health. Sugar and salt are not good either. Then add white flour, and you get all the recipes for diabetes, then high blood pressure, then blocked arteries (leading to stroke and heart attack), then once you are put on the powerful drugs doctors prescribe for these serious diseases, and you use them for long enough, the drugs starts affecting the person's organs. So from diabetes, the person ends up with damaged kidney etc All because of excessive eating of foods like bread and rice. The way Nigerians have taken to bread and rice in the past 20 years is creating a big health problem, but people don't even know. |
'We don't want another Awolowo and Akintola in the South West.' Exactly. Why would someone from the South West join in extending and perpetuating the domineering agenda of a certain group of people from the Northern part of the country. Only 6 months after Mr Tinubu came into office, they were already holding secret meetings about how to impose one of their people on us come 2027. Are Southerners their slaves ![]() |
Mr Ogunlesi should consider building a high capacity port in Akwa Ibom. |
I run a professional firm, so I qualify as a small business owner. Even compared to Ghana or Republic of Benin, my tax is so low it is unbelievable. So which small businesses are being taxed heavily in Nigeria Mr Obi? He just makes anyhow statements that is not backed by facts. I can bet that 90% or more of small businesses in this country pay less than 15% or less of their gross profit in tax. That said, I dread what will happen to taxes from next year once the new tax laws comes into operation ![]() |
I think Universities like OAU, FUTA and other 'good' public Universities around thee country still charge around N100,000 or less for tuition. I hear University of Ilorin has a good reputation for completing their academic programmes within the specified period. It is possible that is why they feel confident they can charge higher and still attract students willing to pay. |
Is the storage underground. From that picture, I can't see how this cost $400m. Am I missing something. |
Aggressive unionism belongs in the 1980s an 90s. In today's fast moving and highly competitive global environment the last thing any country needs is a highly unionised economy that is capable of holding the country back. |
I like it. Proper inspection. Craining your neck from the window of a land cruiser will not let you see the quality of work properly. When other contractors know that the Governor dey shook eye well well for project inspection, they will do better. |
I am not familiar with the constitution of PDP, however, if the constitution states that only the National Secretary can initiate a meeting, it would be illegal for the National Chairman to do otherwise, particularly when the National Secretary is available and in office. Some of the alleged provisions in the constitution of some of Nigeria's parties are perplexing. Why on earth would a constitution make one official the sole person that can call a meeting. That is poor risk management, and a recipe for logjams. That constitution needs to be amended. Now they will have parallel state working committees in Akwa Ibom, and Cross Rivers state. This will go to court, and create new a uncertainty around the party. |
I believe the courts will stop Mr Jonathan from contesting. I don't believe the PDP will risk making him their candidate. That's why there is zero enthusiasm for him running, except from a handful of Northern politicians who are hoping to use him to Foster their own interest. He's recently been visiting this and that person trying to put himself out there and test the response of the populace, but people barely bat an eye lid. Most people are just not interested in him returning as President. He was a weak President. Mrs Deziani allegedly carted away around $2 billion under him, and Nigeria still can't recover the money. By the time they bombard the media with all the financial atrocities that happened under hi, he will regret ever coming out to contest. |
How on planet earth does one person pack so many giant chains on their neck. How did Mr Portable look in the mirror and convince himself those things are ok ![]() It's absolutely bizarre. |
If anything, a wealthy woman that chose to become born again and embark on pastoral training from the bottom shows she had a keen interest in the things of God. Many wealthy people would not take themselves through that process. |
Dbeautyy:So a politician's wife cannot be called. All the Pastors in my Church were made a Pastor by another Pastor or group of Pastors. According to you, they're not called because humans made them Pastors. It is delusion to think that you can only be called if a thunderous voice comes through the sky and announce in the town square that this is my beloved son or daughter, he or she is a pastor from this day. |
Dbeautyy:So why do you think she should not have been made a pastor after going through the laid down training process, which many of today's Pastors don't even have the patience to go through. |
