Nairaland / General / Burkina Faso’s Army Chief Announces Creation Of Interim Government by deltadegre: 12:14am On Oct 31, 2014
Latest update : 2014-10-30
The head of Burkina Faso’s armed forces, General Honoré Traoré, on Thursday announced the dissolution of the National Assembly as well as the creation of an interim government, which would lead the country for 12 months.

Traoré did not specify, however, who would be in charge of the new government.

He made the announcement shortly after President Blaise Compaoré issued a statement read on local broadcaster Radio Omega FM stating that he had dismantled the government and declared the country in a state of emergency, with the chief of the armed forces in charge of implementing the decision.

“A transitional body will be put in place in consultation with all parties,” Traoré told a news conference in the capital Ouagadougou. “A return to the constitutional order is expected in no more than 12 months.”

He also imposed a nationwide curfew from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Earlier, in the Radio Omega statement, Compaoré called on the leaders of the political opposition to put an end to the protests.

“I’m pledging from today to open talks with all the actors to end the crisis,” it said.

The leader of the opposition, Zéphirin Diabré, dismissed the state of emergency, demanding Compaoré’s immediate resignation instead.

“The state of emergency is unacceptable. We are calling on the people to show that they are against it,” he told Radio Omega. “The resignation of President Blaise Compaoré is the only thing that can bring peace to the country.”

Parliament set ablaze

Earlier in the day, thousands of demonstrators stormed the country’s parliament in the capital Ouagadougou, setting it ablaze ahead a vote on whether to revise the constitution to allow Compaoré stand a third term next year.

The proposal has deeply divided Burkina Faso, one of the world’s poorest nations which has positioned itself as a mediator in regional crises. It has also drawn criticism from former colonial power France and from the United States, allies of the Burkinabe government in operations against al Qaeda-linked groups in West Africa.

Following the fire at the parliament, a government spokesperson said that the vote had been called off. It was unclear, however, if the decision was only temporary.

Compaoré has been in power since 1987, ruling the cotton and gold-producing nation with a firm grip. In recent years, however, he has faced increasing criticism, including from within his own camp and the military.

Diplomatic pressure had mounted over the past year for Compaoré to step down in 2015, amid calls from his own entourage for him to seek re-election, diplomats said.

Domestic opposition to his government hardened dramatically after it confirmed on October 21 that it would seek a constitutional change.

Hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets of Ouagadougou and other towns across the country on Tuesday in what the opposition said was the start of a campaign of civil disobedience over the proposed constitutional reform.

Family / 12 Steps To Make A Dream A Reality by deltadegre: 7:28am On Jan 09, 2013
Here are 12 fundamental steps for turning the dreams and ideas in your mind into realities in your life.

Step #1 – Lose the negative attitude. Think positively.

Negative thinking creates negative results. Positive thinking creates positive results. Period.
Every one of the other suggestions below are irrelevant if your mind is stuck in the gutter. Positive thinking is at the forefront of every great success story. The mind must believe it can do something before it is capable of actually doing it. For some practical positive thinking guidance I recommend reading The Power of Positive Thinking.

Step #2 – Figure out what you really want out of life.

You’ll be running on a hamster wheel forever if you never decide where you want to go. Figure out what’s meaningful to you so you can be who you were born to be.
Some of us were born to be musicians – to communicate intricate thoughts and rousing feelings with the strings of a guitar. Some of us were born to be poets – to touch people’s hearts with exquisite prose. Some of us were born to be entrepreneurs – to create growth and opportunity where others saw rubbish. And still, some of us were born to be or do whatever it is, specifically, that moves you.
Don’t waste your life fulfilling someone else’s dreams and desires. You must follow your intuition and make a decision.

Step #3 – Surround yourself with great people.

You are the sum of the people you spend the most time with. If you hang with the wrong people, they will negatively affect you. But if you hang with the right people, you will be far more capable and powerful than you ever could have been alone. Find your tribe and work together to make a difference in all of your lives. Tribes by Seth Godin is a great read on this topic.

Step #4 – Work on it for real.

The harder you work the luckier you will become. Stop waiting around for things to work out. If you keep doing what you’re doing, you’ll keep getting what you’re getting.
While many of us decide at some point during the course of our lives that we want to answer our calling, only an astute few of us actually work on it. By “working on it,” I mean truly devoting oneself to the end result. The rest of us never act on our decision. Or, at best, we pretend to act on it by putting forth an uninspired, half-assed effort.
Remember, life is not easy, especially when you plan on achieving something worthwhile. Achieving your dreams can be a lot of work. Be ready for it.

Step #5 – Don’t make life harder than it needs to be.

Life is challenging enough without you senselessly complicating the simple.
As Oscar Wilde once said, “Life is not complex. We are complex. Life is simple, and the simple thing is the right thing.”
Read our article 60 Ways To Make Life Simple Again for good a reminder.

Step #6 – Exploit the resources you do have access to.

It’s not about having the right resources; it’s about exploiting the resources you do have access to.
Stevie Wonder couldn’t see, so he exploited his sense of hearing into a passion for music, and he now has 25 Grammy Awards to prove it.

Get it?

Step #7 – Focus on things you can change.

Some forces are out of your control. The best thing you can do is do the best with what’s in front of you with the resources you do have access to.
Wasting your time, talent and emotional energy on things that are beyond your control is a recipe for frustration, misery and stagnation. Invest your energy in the things you can change.

Step #8 – Don’t avoid things you don’t understand.

Right now there’s a lot you don’t know. No matter how smart you are or how much you learn there will always be more to learn. Hiding from what you don’t know will bury you right beside your dreams.
So embrace the things you don’t understand and study them. Achieving this understanding is what living your life is all about.

Step #9 – Ignore negative naysayers.

When you receive negative feedback, remember, it doesn’t matter how many people don’t get it, it matters how many do.
Still, no matter how much progress you make there will always be the people who insist that whatever you’re trying to do is impossible. Or they may incessantly suggest that the idea or dream as a whole is utterly ridiculous because nobody really cares.
When you come across these people, don’t try to reason with them. Instead, forget that they exist. They will only waste your time and energy.

Step #10 – Take good care of your body and your brain.

Your body is the greatest tool you’ll ever own. It impacts every step you take and every move you make. You won’t get anything done without it.
And don’t forget that your brain is part of your body too. The human brain only accounts for roughly 2% of the total mass of the human body, yet it consumes over 20% of the oxygen and nutrients the human body intakes.
So nourish your body, exercise it and rest it appropriately. Read The 4-Hour Body.

Step #11 – Work on your dreams when you first awake.

The mornings are a fresh start, peaceful and free of random mid-day distractions. If you get the things done that are the most important to you first thing in the morning, it puts you in a better place, emotionally and creatively, for the remainder of the day.
So put your dreams first. Even if you only have time to work on them for 30 minutes each morning, do it. It truly makes all the difference in the world. Each day, no matter what else happens, you will have done something to make your dreams come true.

Step #12 – Enjoy the pain of your greatest challenge.

Lots of people have achieved their dreams or conquered formerly impossible feats and continue to enjoy the possibilities of new challenges. These people will all tell you there’s nothing more gratifying than the thrill of your greatest challenge – making your dreams a reality. The inherent bruises and pains along the way are simply mile markers on your trip to the finish line.
And when you finally do finish, you may actually find yourself missing the daily grind. Ultimately, you’ll realize that pleasure and pain can be one and the same.

Final Thoughts

As I’ve said before, if there was ever a moment to follow your heart and do something that matters to you, that moment is now. Nothing ever gets done by reading an article about doing it. You’ve got to put in the effort and take action.

So go for it! Now! Make yourself proud.

Lagusta:

Now let me tell you something...

If you want to be a good doctor, you need to attend a good medical school, where there are seasoned lecturers, well equiped practical labs with good instructors, and a wide variety of specialties!!!

If there is NO neurosurgeon, plastic surgeon or even an orthopedic surgeon in a teaching hospital, then you need to be careful...

BTW, why do some teaching hospitals still refer to others for kidney transplant or MRI scan

That's the only way you can develop yourself!!!
Boss you are my senior colleague but i would still want to stress my point because though the kind of school you attend matters but i think for any medical school to be accredited by council they must have reached the minimum qualifications like staff as well as teaching hospital. Boss for you to advice somebody to fill a school only because they have carried out a successful kidney transplant that i think its a fallacy, let me prove my point before you gained admission to uniilorin i dont think they had any breakthrough in kidney transplant. if that is the yardstick to measure a medical school then i dont think if schools like UNN, UI,OAU,UNIBEN to mention but a few big name would be advice able to do medicine cos they are yet to record a breakthrough in kidney transplant but those it mean these schools are not good enough ?. Big Boss i would rather you advice these upcoming ones to consider schools that have full accreditation not name. you and i know that studying medicine in nigeria is not something really to write home about, you claim you school have neurosurgeons, how many of your colleagues can carry out neurosurgery?. all we need as medical students in nigeria is to graduate and go to a better country to get specialized in something very good. Some times last two years i read from the news paper the registrar of medical and dental council of nigeria lamenting inadequacy of medical staff in the country he said it himself that we have only 9 resident neurosurgeons in nigeria where as only Sheffield university in london has 15. let me use this opportunity to wish you success in you final MB i hope immediately after your graduation you would go abroad to good countries to advance in you study then you would reason back all i have said if you are studying in nigerian the surviver of you ways is in you hand not the school, though the school has its part to play but we need do ours. once more SUCCESS

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Lionel Messi Wins Ballon D'or Award by deltadegre: 9:25pm On Jan 07, 2013
Congratulations to Leo Messi for winning the ballon d'or...

Honestly,Iniesta/Ronaldo deserved this more than him,i know he scored a lot of goals but they weren't important such as Ronaldos or Iniesta's assists/goals,anyway Respect for Messi.

BUT:

Did you notice the Fifa team of the year? Well here it is:
FIFA world team of the year: Casillas, Alves, Pique, Ramos, Marcelo, Alonso, Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, Falcao, Ronaldo.
I completely disagree with this list!!!
This is La Liga team of the year!!!
Where is Cech,Cole,DIDIER DROGBA,Pirlo, Yaya Toure, Aguero etc Fifa??
In which twisted world is Alves better than Cole??
Ramos as a CB?
Kompany,Terry,Hummels aren't better?
Soo biased..What a shame.............

Guy, I tell you categorically that it is either those friends of yours are deceiving you, or you are personally deceiving yourself. They hit OAU Merit cutoff and they were not admitted? Oga na lie joor!

One of my room mate(an Architecture Student) hit the Merit point and his name was not shortlisted. He quickly came to the Faculty Office and his name fizzle out with immediate 'alacrity'!. Tell those your friends that they are the one who didnt need the admission. Abi they were waiting for OAU to supply them with admission letter through DHL?

My own name is not from the Merit List. My name came out on the VC list. So get it right. Dont miscontrue it that you didnt need God o. You need God very much. But if God help you hit the Merit cutoff, and you still dey dull, then na you no want admission.
thank GOD you talked about your room mate what of if he didnt knw were to go or who to meet or perhaps he doesnt stay around OAU. my guy what well ae saying is true talking about merit means you name comes out as soon as you have beaten the cutt off mark there should be no stress of meeting people. we are saying the same thing but for those people i told you of am very sure especially for the one of international studies

Obinnau: erm pls let me add some thing which some of us jambites may need to know from u. What are the performances of most federal universities in the core north? Are they as good as their counterparts in the other regions? Schools like UDUSOK, UNIMAID UNIJOS ETC
obinnau why are you bent on going to these northern schools. i would advice you to study hard fill any of the southern schools, if you cant make it for the federal schools you put in for a state school provided the school has full accreditation. depending on your ability you can fill UNICAL, UNIPORT, UNIZIK, UNIUYO,EBSU,DELSU,ABSU, UNIBEN. these school are good in medicine. i want to stress this not all abt the school you attend but what you make yourself become through study. i can remember one lecturer in uniben in the department of computer engineering his name is mr. Bello if you knw anybody there ask the person about this man, he never schooled abroad but he is equal to or better of than most people who did school abroad most people have testified it. all am trying to say is just get admitted to an accredited school study to show yourself approved you would be surprised you would be better of than most medical doctors trained even in U.I name of school no matter but the stuff you are made of that is one thing abt medicine the job is always given to the right hand or better still the gifted hands not the graduates from a prestigious school. came down you can reach me if you want us to talk privately i would tell you school to fill and you would be admitted. like most other medical schools start dropping students from 300 level after MB but in my school if you dont perform well enough in you 200 level comprehensive exams you will be dropped if you come to my school its a hell of competition it takes only the best among the best. my dear not school that builds a man but himself

Have been following this thread starting from the first page because I have a brother who will write UTME this year. Am 300level Engineering student of OAU so am very much qualify to speak on this.

OAU has what is called the Merit list among other lists and the cutoff for the Merit is posted after the postUTME exam. If you manage to hit the Merit cutoff, am telling you that you have been ADMITTED authomatically except if you have a problem with your O'level. Ask anybody about this. If you hit OAU Merit cutoff and you are not admitted, then you are certainly below the Merit cutoff! PERIOD!
yemmy i would disagree with you on this because i knw one of my friend in uniben he wrote jamb and post jamb again in 2011 and filled OAU he scored above the cut off for pharmacy but wasn't admitted also last year i mean 2012 jamb a friend of mine also scored above the cut off mark for international studies but when the first list was out she wasn't admitted. all i want to say is admission is more than just to beat the cut off u need God and other assistance if u can get it. though your own admission may be free maybe you were just lucky but that same luck may not apply to another person. come to think of it your state of origin plays a very important role in getting admission into any Nigerian university
