This wraps up the player of the year conversation in my opinion. Chawinga could probably have remained in the conversation if she had won the NWSL title. Now that KC Current are out of contention and Esther has been having a fantastic playoff run with her team now in the final, she's undisputed in my opinion.
But wait..!
What did Chawinga do with Malawi 🇲🇼??

Esther won WAFCON with Nigeria as the team Star player with 2goals and 7 assists and also made the team of the tournament..!

Won the NSL 🇨🇦 shield and also made the team of the season with the highest number of assists as well…

Now in the final of the Championship..

What more does Esther need to win to be favourite??

She’s the second highest paid goalkeeper in the WSL behind Arsenal Daphne van Domselaar 🇳🇱 just a slight fraction difference though….

3rd Hannah Hampton 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Any problem with Janet 3rd goal?

I strongly believed madugu didn't know who the hell is okafor , NFF must have told him to include her and also most homegrown coaches don't like sourcing for Foreign born players except they're are already a superstar ....
But truthfully Okafor is a big talent and I know very well that she would explode once she goes pro hopefully by January 2016!

The potentials are there to see, once you spot it that this player is gonna be a bomb in the nearest future, the best is to Cap 🧢 them down awaiting the future…

There are other things to fault Magudu for, Edna's invitation in my opinion isn't one of them. I don't think it will be fair to put this chiefly on him. The NFF is primarily responsible for this, cause the onus was on them to see to it that a budding star like Edna at the very least played the required number if games necessary to wade off other offers that may come are way. They can as a policy decision do this for stars they believe would be potentially important the program irrespective of whatever a coach's decision may be and this only happens with a functioning technical department.

For example, if as a federation, they've identified that a player (in this case Edna) may play a key role, maybe not immediately but sometimes in the future, to the growth of the Super Falcons. The policy will be to invite the player and ensure the coach (irrespective of who they are) plays said player, even if for 5 minutes, the required number if game necessary to lock them in, so they can put eligibility to rest. Coaches may decide not to invite said players if they do not fit into their immediate plans once this is achieved.

This was how the Super Eagles lost out on Eberechi Eze by the way. We could have locked him in and the rest would have been history.

If for
Chioma Okafor is another case here..!!

Madugu funny sha.

She has the quality to make the Spanish team consistently.
Of course but with the SuperFalcons I don’t think we have a better option at no.9

She brings in that kind of Desire Oparanozie vibe upfront just that she’s faster and taller.
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by Deltamani: 12:29pm On Nov 05, 2025
Edna Imade better rethink and come play for Nigeria instead of Spain because with the SuperFalcons she stands a chance of leading the attack as the first choice top9 while in Spain she will share minutes with big guns like Esther, Salma, Alba Redondo etc..

As much as I think Benin deserve a chance to compete, I sincerely do not have a problem with this. You have to understand that amongst other things, rankings are reflective of a nations cumulative contribution to the sports. Women's Sports haven't always garnered equal support from all countries. While many chose not to invest in their women's game, a few in Africa have consistently showed up year in year out, putting in the work (no matter how mediocre) to ensure their team's participation in women's football sporting events while others will rather pull out and not participate at all.

Using this ranking in some way rewards those years of investments in women's football. It's obviously not a perfect metric but I sincerely don't mind it. I believe another consideration CAF had is organising another qualifying tournament will mean more expenditure on the part of the FAs and most quite frankly already have money issues.
You have a good point but again CAF isn’t fair enough considering there’s still enough time to go into playoffs just as the European and other continents do for them all to have an equal chance of qualifying..

In all it Favour’s our fellow West Africans ( Mali and Cote’d’ivoire ) and neighbors Cameroon. So is a big win and time to prove to CAF that West Africa rules when it comes to Africa Women’s Football..

The CAF has confirmed the expansion of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) from 12 to 16 teams starting with the 2026 edition. 🏆

👉 As a result, the four highest-ranked nations in the FIFA standings among those eliminated in the final round of qualifiers will be reinstated to complete the list of 16 participating teams.

💚 Among them is Cameroon, ranked 66th in the world ranking! 🇨🇲

The Indomitable Lionesses thus join Côte d’Ivoire 🇨🇮 , Mali 🇲🇱, and Egypt 🇪🇬 on the list of qualified teams.

This expansion not only preserves Cameroon's proud record of participation at the top level but also aligns with CAF's broader vision to enhance competitiveness and inclusivity in women's football across Africa.
This 2026 WAFCON will be tough for sure!!

West Africa is parading 6 teams as it stands, if you include Cameroon and Cape Verde that are close neighbors it becomes 8 though..!

I love how this our SuperFalcons players who played in Sweden 🇸🇪 did got their citizenship as well.. Not just football money..

1• Faith Ikidi
2• Rita Chikwelu
3• Oghonna Chukwudi
4• Sarah Michael
5• Ngozi Okobi
6• Halimatu Ayinde
7• Helen Ukaonu etc these are the ones I’m 💯 sure of..

And I know very well that Anam IMO is following same path one of the reasons she hasn’t left there as well.

I think she is more suit to the Spanish team than the Nigerian team because she is a poacher and not the kind of player that tracks back, the reason why she doesn’t rake in significant assists. Spanish team has an array of midfielders to lay passes for her to finish. Just that she may not have the playing time cos Spain has a lot of players in that role.
Nigerian team needs strikers that can score and fight from the midfield and not someone that will be spoon-fed to finish.

My opinion anyway
Put Esther Okoronkwo on the flank for Edna Imade and watch her deliver..

Edna is deadly in the air and very powerful which I’m pretty sure if she plays for Nigeria she can get on the end of Esther’s Crosses weda from Corner kicks or Free Kicks.

In all we 🇳🇬 need her more than Spain.!!

My opinion anyway
• As for the Assist aspect, yes she doesn’t rake up in that aspect but it’s better to do her main job which is the Finishing..

• She fits the African style of play as well because of how well built she is...

• Edna is very Strong, Fast, good in the Air and uses both feet’s effectively..

• She’s the best top 9 in Liga F 🇪🇸 right now

As for the aspect of tracking back to defend you’re wrong, she does that very well and have watched her defend in their box during Corner kicks.

Yeah… She fits both teams but in Spain only Esther is way ahead of her in that top9 position… Salma, Redondo and Cristina Martín-Prieto are definitely behind her right now..

Again in Nigeria she will thrive as well with someone like Esther, Chioma Okafor, Ajibade on the flanks..

We have Payne, Abiodun and Echegini that can also feed her from midfield even though the Spanish team hold higher ground but she will also succeed with the SuperFalcons..

Does Granada, Real Sociedad have the qualities Spain have in Midfield??

Sorry, I might have missed that.
If that's the case, what on earth was Magudu doing with Taiwo Afolabi when you had a Favour Emmanuel that is a million times better and offers much more grit and intelligent play in the midfield?
That man is a joke!
Let’s just hope her time comes anytime soon.
Again I do not fancy Ajibade in Midfield at all, Randy tried this earlier on until he moved her back to the flanks were she performed well..

Madugu doesn’t play a Double Pivot (2 CDM) in Midfield like Randy..

He prefers 1 DM and 2 CAM midfielders..

Super Falcons head coach, Justine Madugu has apologized to the fans of the Super Falcons for failing to produce a result that meets up with the expectations of Nigerians after the team's 1-1 draw against Benin Republic. He remarked that there is always a standard to which the team is expected to perform in games, however, the Super Falcons were not able to perform as such, labelling it an "off day" for the ladies but then they will see the result as a wake up call to the fact that there is more works to be done.

Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade emphasized that the team did not at any point understimate the capabilities of their counterparts Benin Republic in their WAFCON qualification game that ended 1-1 at the MKO Abiola Arena, Abeokuta. She maintained that even in Togo, where the two teams played the forst leg of the double-header, they knew the Amazons would be tougher as getting a result against the African Champions would mean a lot to them. She admitted that the Falcons did not particularly play their best game but noted that it was an opportunity to detect their loopholes and as well correct them ahead of subsequent games.

Benin Republic women’s head coach, Abdoulaye Ouzerou has said that he expected his side to win their second leg tie against Nigeria. Speaking in a translated speech after the game, the gaffer said he always believed his team had what it takes to win, and he tried to instill that notion in his players. Overall, he said he is satisfied with the result, but would’ve be more satisfied when they start winning.

• Do you accept Coach Madugu's apology?
• Did Nigeria underestimate Benin?
• What must the team improve upon to secure an 11th title in Morocco?

The thing is Zogg is already 28+

I must say the Center Backs we need right now should be U25 down at least that can last 5-8yrs in the team pairing with Blessing Demehin or anybody else.

We need a very physical Center Back with good aerial ability, and speed to outmuscle opponents and win duels..

I must say a Defender that can come up and win her Challenges against those kind of Banda, Chawinga, Dumornay kind of Forwards ..

She should be very good with the ball at her feets, must also possess strong leadership, communication, and tactical awareness to organize the defense, read the game, and anticipate opponents' moves…
Maureen Umeughochukwu comes to mind as she fits in Perfectly well, she has a great height, well built and a modern day ball playing Defender.

But will have to move over to a top side first considering still pursuing other stuff outside the game which is one reason she’s still there in France.. 🇫🇷
