One of my biggest fears was port security. Plenty of stories about Port rats, offloading damage, etc.

It's a bit hard to tell if the car was damaged while offloading. But only one thing was missing when it got to me that I'm sure was in the car when it left the US. The start/stop button. It's a simple $9 item that has been bought.

Headlight control module was also missing.
But I don't know where that happened.

So, on to the most important things.

It's a fine car. Far more refined than the Infiniti, perhaps at the expense of engagement.
Even with the V8, it's not a sports car. It's a grand tourer. Soaks up bumps and has plenty of power on tap.
While the G35 makes its power brutishly and at the top end, the E550 is silky smooth and simply pulls you to ludicrous speeds. Very smooth.

For example, if I have a gallon o fuel when accelerating in the G35, it usually falls over. It doesn't in the Merc. It's the torque that's simply amazing. 394 lb-ft at 2800 rpm. More than an E90 BMW M3, a Lexus LFA, or an Audi R8 V8. About the same as a Ferarri 458 Italia.

In comparison, the G35 doesn't make its peak torque of 268 until about 5300 rpm. That makes for a big difference in driving experience, it also means I can sit at 100km/h with the engine lazying about at 1500 rpm.

That said, the VQ35HR is a much more exciting engine. This 5.5L was designed for smoothness in the S Class, not for racing. It shows. The exhaust note is also very muted, and even when you step on it, it just growls softly.

Make person dash me Magnaflow mufflers, I'm pleading.

The car is fully loaded, essentially. It's only missing the Distronic Package.

The 12-speaker Harman Kardon system bangs. It's almost overkill for a coupe.

I have heated seats, panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, paddle shifters, pretty much everything.

Handling isn't as good as the G35. You can feel the weight of the car. But it's definitely capable. Besides, my boy racer days are over.

Steering is too light. It's what I hate most about the car.

Engine is rated at 382 HP, but I'll eventually get a tune to push it to 415 HP. Other planned mods include exhaust work, an Android headunit, and UR strut bars for tighter handling.

Car has just 88k miles on it with complete service history.

Worst scenario is to feign ignorance of it not available in the vehicle (search and search for it and say madam must have taken it out ).

But really, don't let it get to that, always have cash on you to give them if (I doubt) they ever stop you - street wisdom - no amount is too small, alternatively a friendly banter would often suffice.

Lastly, I hope you or the last owner did not thrash the old documents like proof of ownership, vehicle license etc, keep those photocopies in the car .

Meanwhile in my case; the car has duty but "was lost in a fire accident" that was the account of the previous owner who happens to be a church member.
I've never encountered customs since 18months now, I see em on the roads but thot they ain't interested in my old vehicle.
I'm just being cautious and trying to know how to deal with em if they stop me one day.

However, I've contacted many agents to get a reprint of customs papers with Chassis number lookup but its always futile.
Is there any way around it pls?

The search is 99% impossible especially after few years (customs only input last 6 digits of vin/chassis number and countless vehicles can have the same).

I would advise you keep the vehicle 'old', as in not-too-flashy , so no customs will look your side o.

2006 vehicle is not old in Naija, older vehicles as far back as 1998 are still coming in as Toks in large numbers, and of cos harassed by customs.

Customs can seize any pleasure car - SUV and saloon cars - more than 15yrs old manufacturing date from entering into Nigeria.

However, they graciously allow it go as (more) tip is collected to issue Assessment Form for it, reason agents charge more for such vehicles (1999/2000/2001/2002/2003 vehicles pay more than 2005 vehicles for instance).

The customs e-platform does not have rate table for it hence they write next available year allowable to make it scale thru .

The first submission (being a bill) is correct. But the second one you mentioned is incorrect.
Reading the full draft, the suggestion originated from the Nigerian Customs because they are losing a huge chunk of revenue to smuggling. They want to discourage shipping to Cotonou, and smuggle to Nigeria.
Secondly, also from the bill, transportation is the bedrock of any nation. All vehicles used in transportation of persons will benefit from it when passed into law.

I await to see the draft, as I seriously doubt it.

Anywyz, it is Nigeria with policy summersault or miscommunication. Are you aware Customs gets a percentage of revenue and automatically would want to generate more. Also land border has been closed for close to a year now hence no fear of Cotonou port, most importantly, customs and govt can effectively man the border to generate revenue but they chose to leave it to be porous to get more for themselves.

Your last statement is just like what is in the bill, no clarity.

1. I entered into a contract to replace the engine, fluids and radiator for Baba40

2. The vehicle was recently purchased by baba40 prior to meeting me and was massively abused.

3. A Foreign used engine was procured and installed with a 3month warranty or 3000km which ever comes first.

4. I did not receive any complaints from Baba40 until after the expirations of his warranty.

5. The procured engine in the market where it was sourced comes with a 1 week warranty and not a money back guarantee. (They will fix and not replace in the event of failure).

6. As a responsible entity we stick our necks out for our clients because we stand by what we sell.
We give long warranties so in the case of failure the client is covered.

7. I was contacted on the 4th month and after over 3,340km that engine installed on baba40's vehicle suffered oil burn.

8. As a responsible entity I offered him a window of full refund for expense made on engine procurement and installation . The window was 24hrs.

9. Baba40 Did not respond to my offer, but rather insulted me further.

10. 3weeks after the offer elapsed he opened the thread above.

With all due respect Baba40, can you provide answers to the questions/posers above (you can leave out #2 as you won't have needed Gazzuzz's service if the vehicle was okay). Please include evidence/screenshot(s) to state/support your point/submission where necessary.

We wish to resolve this and both of you can have closure.

However, truck fee to bring out the container for offloading suddenly increased from ₦150k to ₦600k due to congestion at the Port! I am trying to raise money.

According to the 2020 Finance Bill, a 25% discount applies to all vehicles (whatever the type) imported into the country.

Why still sell your vehicles at exorbitant rates, citing duty as excuse?

A Bill is different from an Act.

Whilst a Bill is a proposal; an Act is a law. Therefore the Finance Bill is not a law hence not enforceable, until it is passed by the National Assembly and then assented to by the President. In essence, no 25% discount on imported vehicle yet.

It is not a law yet. Furthermore, I doubt if it will bring any changes to customs duty on Tokunbo vehicles as 99% of vehicles have over the years been accessed based on shortpayment.

Likewise, the customs has a humongous target to meet set by the same FG.

Let's wait for clarity on the proposed Bill and most importantly, implementation by customs.

PS: after careful perusal of the Bill by the Fed. Min. of Finance, it is clear the proposed reduction will be on tractors, buses for passengers and goods (not saloon cars, SUV for pleasure). For better clarity, only the automobiles not placed on 15 years age limit of importation of vehicles will enjoy the discount.
