Thanks for this thread. My sister also wants to apply for a spousal visa for her husband from nigeria but she gets child tax credit and working tax credit to pay for her child's nursery. She works full time and earns £1350 per month. I've advised her to cancel her claim but her answer is how does she pay for nursey (£820 every four weeks). I now advised her to cancel the claim when she is going to Naija for her wedding (lets say a week b4 travelling) as her child wont be in d nursery during their hol and she wont have to pay for childcare and pray her husbands visa is issued b4 she returns or better still the child stays with my mum pending the issuance of her husbands visa. Every other thing is ok i.e house, savings, emails, telephone records etc.
Nairalanders advise please.

@ Segseybaba and Aysometin pls read

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/while-in-uk/rightsandresponsibilities/publicfunds/

Public funds
Rights and responsibilities

This page explains what public funds are and whether you are able to receive help from them while you are living in the UK.

If you have been given permission to live in the UK, this permission may include the condition that you have 'no recourse to public funds'. If so, you will not be able to claim most benefits, tax credits or housing assistance that are paid by the state.

However, there are exceptions for some benefits. If you are in any doubt, you should contact the department or agency that issues the benefit. This will often be the Department for Work and Pensions or HM Revenue & Customs.

Public funds include a range of benefits that are given to people on a low income, as well as housing support. These are:

income-based jobseeker's allowance;
income support;
child tax credit;
working tax credit;
a social fund payment;
child benefit;
housing benefit;
council tax benefit;
state pension credit;
attendance allowance;
severe disablement allowance;
carer's allowance;
disability living allowance;
an allocation of local authority housing;
local authority homelessness assistance;
health in pregnancy grant; and
income-related employment and support allowance.

You dont need to go to their embassy infact their embassy does not deal with visitors visa if emirates flies from your country of abode all you need to do is book a ticket with them and you pay them for your visa as well and they would get the visa for you alternatively you can use UBA Bank from anywhere you are in the world all you need to do is apply online the fee is $150 or there about and from emirates its £28

Well my sister booked a ticket with bellview last week on the phone not taking into consideration their poor customer service on the phone and she was asked to pay into their account because they dont take payments by credit or debit cards and was told to fax her reciept to them and she would be sent her ticket via her email she paid on friday and gave them a call and she was told their fax machine was bad that she should try resending it on Monday. First thing monday morning she sent them the fax and up till mid day she did not see any ticket she gave them a call in the afteernoon around 2pm and she was told it would be sent to her email box not sent to her postal address oooo but up till this morning nothing has showed up. How many seconds does it take to issue an e-ticket? How come an international airline like bellview does not have a good website where you can do everything online? How come you cant pay over the phone. The worst is their customer service its exceptionally poor i pray and hope their flight would not be as poor as their customer service the only good thing about them is the price she paid for the ticket. Would not fly with them personally.

If the mother is a citizen or legal resident with 'indefinite leave to remain' at the time of the child's birth, the child automatically qualifies for british citizenship but if the mother is just a student the child would be 7yrs old b4 she can apply for naturalization for the child and have in mind the 7 yr rule is not automatic its discretionary

Travel / Flight With Nigerian Airways by demi2008(f): 11:23am On Sep 19, 2008
In Flight announcement

"Good morning, Ladies and Gentlemen. This is your captain (Boneyface Kasali Yaro) welcoming you on board of Nigeria Airways.

We apologize for the four-day delay in taking off, it was due to bad weather and some overtime I had to put in at the bakery. This is flight 126 to Lagos. Landing in Lagos is not guaranteed, but we will end up somewhere in the South. If luck is in our favour, we may even be landing in your village! Nigeria Airways has an excellent safety-record. In fact our safety
standards are so high that even terrorists are afraid to fly with us!

It is with pleasure, I announce that starting this year over 50% of our passengers have reached their destination. If our engines are too noisy for you, on passenger request, we can arrange to turn them off! To make your free fall to earth pleasant and memorable, we serve
complimentary Bongo tea and Okin biscuits! For our not-so-religious passengers, we are the only airline who can help you find out if there really is a God!

We regret to inform you, that today's in-flight movie will not be shown as we forgot to record it from the television. But for our movie buffs, we will be flying right next to Air Barka, where
their movie will be visible from the right side of the cabin window. There is no smoking allowed in this airplane. Any smoke you see in the cabin is only the early warning on the engines telling us to slow down! In order to catch important landmarks, we try to fly as close as possible for the best view. If, however, we go a little too close, do let us know.

Our enthusiastic co-pilot sometimes flies right through the landmark! Kindly be seated, keep up your seat in an upright position for take-off and fasten your seat-belt. For those of you who can't find a seat-belt, kindly fasten your own belt to the arm of your seat , and for those of you who can't find a seat, do not hesitate to get in touch with a stewardess who will explain how to fasten yourself to your suitcase." And if we pass your street please tell the stewardess or shout Owa O Pilot !! so we can throw you off safely, at least that would save you taxi fare.

ENJOY Nigeria Airways the Best in the world ! We hope you fly with us again.

Please for God sake dont let her overstay her visa by 1 second since u are british why dont u apply for a spouse visa for her so she can stay here permanently for 2yrs and after that apply for her indefinate leave to remain in UK and after another 1yr she can naturalize and apply for her British passport.

All u need to apply for her spousal visa is;

Evidence of relationship with sponsor - e.g. marriage/birth certificate, evidence of communication, photographs

Evidence of sponsor's immigration status in UK and copies of passport

Previous divorce papers for applicant/sponsor (if appropriate)

Evidence of employment and current financial circumstances of applicant and sponsor (as per visitors)
