The minimum oil level must be maintained not only in the engine, but also in the transmission. The ATF quality is also a property that should be monitored and maintained, as this will preserve the correct operation of the transmission which will in turn preserve the dynamic characteristics of the car as set by the factory. Refer to your car manual/e-manual for how to spot signs of ATF degradation as they vary per formulation.

When replacing ATF, it is essential to replace with ONLY specified fluids that meets requirement for usage in your transmission, to ensure continued smooth operation of the unit. Transmissions are expensive to replace when they go bad or wear out, so prevention by investing in the right ATF is the smart move. A search for 'Automatic Transmission Fluid' on Wikipedia gives a list of applicable fluids for the vast majority of cars.
