Thanks for the correction, I agree that It cuts across genders. I see no reason why a Pastor is even telling you who or who not to marry, that is not his duty. If you ask for advise, then he can offer one. If not, he should hold his peace.

If i start to discuss all the BS that I have personally witnessed, I am certain this thread will be derailed beyond recovery. I have had numerous encounters that is so crazy that I can't even speak about in a public forum like this. Sometimes people treat their churches like cult, once you criticise something, you become their enemy.

Once you get to church, worship & go, over familiarity leads to something else.

Aptly captured! There's so much to say but wouldn't want to change the discourse of the thread.

Go to church, worship and go home to your loved ones sums it all. All other activities are just icing.
The cake remains edible with or without the icing on it; heaven remains sure for true Christians whether you belong to a group in the church or not.

It has been very difficult finding young women who are Christians & still watch out for fake/scamming pastors. I mean both aren't mutually exclusive most times. Usually It's either you find christians who are straight u gullible OR former christians just became full blown Atheist as a result of multiple disappointments from Pastors.

The issue is that there are no direct repercussions for a Pastors wrong action, because we have free will & God wouldn't interfere every time we are about to get scammed. if not, It would mean we are just mere robots.Sometimes God gives us clues & signs personally.

I went to a Church many years ago in Festac & they called for offering in this manner, If you are giving us 2,000 & above, please step out! If you are giving 1,000 or above, then came 500 & above. I became furious, why should every one know how much I am giving? This is suppose to be a personal thing between me & God.

That day I had 100 Naira, omo I just sat my ass down when It was time for 100 naira & above to come out. God no go shame us.

However, it does not entirely lie with the women. It cuts across genders and that is because, over time, these pastors have become more psychologically mature than their members, hence they use it to their advantage.

A popular Bible passage that has been so bastardized is “Thou shall not judge”...and they have made us believe that when you question their misgivings, you are judging them...you are assuming the position of God. This is a fallacy! Do NOT condemn an unbeliever to hell is what the passage is about. No human is above correction!

Years ago, my GS son's (DLCC) wedding which was not in line with the church's doctrine was in the cyberspace. I tried to have a pet talk on it with a Christian brother and he immediately shut me down. No no no no...don't mention it o. It's a sin...bla bla bla...ignore the media. Don't mind them.
I then asked him, if this was about a floor member of the church, would you say this? He tried to tell me it was different. Different because it's the GS' even when he clearly admitted to erring?!

I remember telling a senior member I'd not conform to the church way of getting married. I'm the one staying in the marriage, why then should a pastor decide for me?!
Why does my potential husband have to meet with you first? Not even my parents at least?!
I was considered odd because I always had(still have) questions.

But, thankfully, our yearnings got to the GS and he's been making some corrections on marriage proceedings in the church. It shows they are man made laws that can always be adjusted. Only God's stands!

The above is a clear example how we have exalted these people more than they ought to.

. Apart from offering which depends on my purse, I don't contribute to a university project I may never directly benefit from.

The church should use previous offerings to carry out such projects and/or take a loan from the bank, with intent to pay back from the institution proceeds. Students pay tuitions, right? So, yeah! cool

It's good to give and all that...

However, some abi most sef use the fear factor on the congregation.

How do you explain a married woman giving out her two cars bought by her husband whose consent was never sought to her pastor huh

One was telling us the other day to try God by emptying our pockets even though it meant trekking home. God no be my mate, I nor go try am angry

A woman with the leg pain emptied hers o. Her life; her faith. I, De.nique, only sow as the spirit leads not because a fellow being like me is sugar coating a speech o. Ko le werk.

Seed sowing is good but most of our pastors need to stop cajoling their members. At a time I got angry with my mom, you send her money and she's telling you she's paying this and that in the church. Are you doing ajo there or worship They keep doing this to our elderly ones. Gosh!

A pastor rents a 3 bedroom and expects his members to pay his rent, meanwhile most of them live in a one room apartment. Anyways, I don't contribute to a cause I'm not enjoying myself.

Bonus: I was an invitee at a church program. Along the line, the pastor got to me, started telling me things(I just dey laugh inside) and asked that I see her after the service. Got a number 'cos we were many. I was asked to pay about 10k for deliverance. Saw two ladies...young girls billed 26k and 28k respectively. One went to use the ATM right there. I was gobsmacked! I told my friend, I'd rather pay more to a spiritualist than pay a dime in the house of MY FATHER to be delivered.

My friend paid and has been moving from stage to stage in payment. Sometimes, she complains she's tired of pay pay pay and I immediately use my hands free 'cos I like to mind my business.

God is everywhere. Search Him yourself and you'll find Him. Don't be deceived!

It has to do with us trying not to be a liability—to ourselves, to the society.

The average Nigerian woman needs twice the amount of time of her western counterpart to achieve same feat; reason these people seem to be more independent than us, marry earlier than us.

It isn't about competing with the men; neither are we hoeing. For some of us, it's about bringing something to the table which takes us longer time to achieve due to our environment.

Back then, our mothers didn't need to have a means of livelihood before being taken(married). The narrative has changed!

Our modern men want a woman graduate, in some cases an MSc holder...working or owning a thriving business. These things don't come easy, especially: for most of us who didn't/don't have the foundation, connection, means, coupled with ASUU strike. So many factors impede a lady's marital growth.

Below is a link to a thread and Kriss216 made a resonating comment. As much as it isn't excusable, a lot of us take to it to survive.
Where then, is the time for such persons to marry early?
