PoliticsRe: Know This Before You Protest Tomorrow! Nothing Like Fuel Subsidy by denko(m): 12:21pm On May 17, 2016
I guess you know more than the Petroleum State Minister he uses 280 naira for exchange rate you are using 320 naira to a dollar i would have indulge you but i need no waist my time with you. A government that has three monetary policy Official Rate 199 Parallel 320 Fuel Modulation price 280.
Vandieee:
THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DID NOT REMOVE SUBSIDY BECAUSE THERE IS NO SUBSIDY AT #86.5 PUMP PRICE OF FUEL
Before you go to protest against the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government, be informed that the government did not remove any subsidy because there was no subsidy to be removed in the first place. So don't go and protest against what does not exist. Seek information and be informed. This is what the government has done. The government has simply stopped giving foreign exchange to fuel importers and has asked them to source for foreign exchange through secondary sources. Why has the pump price of fuel increased from #86.5 to between #135 and #145? This is specifically as a result of the difference between the official exchange rate and the informal (parallel) market exchange rate. This is the simple mathematics. The official exchange rate is #199 per dollar while the parallel market exchange rate is #320 per dollar. This represents and increase of 37% (320-199/320 × 100 = 37.8%). This reflected exactly in the new price of petrol as it increased from #86.5 to an average of #140 which is an increase of 38% (140 - 86.5/140 ×100 = 38%). There may be a gap in the dessimination of information to the public and it is totally regrettable and I am sure it will be taken care of, but I encourage Nigeians to seek the right information. I have always insisted that there was nothjng like fuel subsidy and I stand by that. The Federal government cannot continue to be the sole source of foreign exchange for the importation of fuel in the face of falling price of crude resulting in the depletion of our foreign reserve. It is unsustainable and cannot satisfy the domestic consumption of fuel in Nigeria. Nigeria gets foreign currency from the sale of crude and the price of crude has fallen by over 70%. This means that the government no longer has enough dollars to give to fuel importers. A lay man shoud be.

If everybody keep mute as you are canvassing THIS INSENSITIVE GOVT will increase this pump price again in no distant time Osibanjo came out and clear the road for that to happen THIS IS JUST AN INCREASE THERE IS STILL SUBSIDY.
buchibrand:
Let me ask you, what have we as a people achieved through Strike since 1999? ASUU/Asup Strikes, NLC strike...at the end the government will reduce 5Naira and NLC will accept it and that's all.

1. They will be paid for the days they did not work
2. They probably will get salary increase
3. Their leaders will become more richer, popular and influential
4. Nigeria would have lost billions of Naira
5. Business men and women will be counting their losses
6. The economy will further weaken
7. The marketers will sell PMS at a price higher than what we are ask to buy it now.
8. They will still come back to government and collect their subsidy claim.

What have you gain in all these?
When was the last time you bought a litre of PMS at the official pump price?

I did not know someone is still frustrated that his candidate lost election since 2015.

Expression of anger will not change anything, rather it will compound the issue.

God is God of justice, his punishment will start from those who desire evil for his fellow and the country al large;

It will also start from those who supports anyone that has looted this country.

It will also start from those who call other names and refuse to repent.

Let the punishment begins, I promise you, you will not escape it.

senior123:
I know you are an IPOB supporter so I will tell you. Nigerians do not let tribalism, nepotism, bigotry and hate becloud our judgement. We voted out PDP simply because PDP ruled this country for 16 years with nothing to show for it.

1) PDP drilled the lake chad basin. Not APC. Not Buhari.

2) PDP devalued our currency and the oil prices have fallen. I know in PDP rule, rather than do the right thing and restrict foreign currency in the economy, they would devalue our currency so they can spend more coz US and EU told them to.

3) Nigerians want people who put the interest of the nation first. Not state, tribe, religion or whatever. As long as it benefits some or all groups of Nigerians in some way b4 it benefits any outsider or personal self. Most Nigerians know (except IPOB of course) that what PMB is doing, is what should have been done a very long time ago. Although it is now taking too long.

4) Most importantly, we know that for a country to prosper, we have to make sacrifices. Nationalism means individual groups will not be happy, Individuals may not happy but the nation, as a complete whole is better off. This simple concept, PDP did not understand.

5) Lastly, I love igbo people, and I can only thank God that many Igbo people do not share this delusional IPOB mentality. Anyone who votes PDP is the one allowing tribalism, nepotism, bigotry and hate becloud their judgement. Because i cannot see how any Nigerian would want even another day of PDP rule.
