Nigerian Fintech Startup Paystack Raises $1.3 Million

Paystack, one of Nigeria's most hotly anticipated tech start-ups, has just secured $1.3M Seed investment from both international and homegrown investors. The investors include Tencent, Comcast Ventures and Singularity Investments, with participation from Spark, M&S Partners, Tokyo Founders Fund, Blue Rinc Capital, Pave Investments, KIBS-CFY Partners, Michael Siebel, Justin Kan, Olumide Soyombo, Leonard Stiegeler and a number of Angels.

The company, founded by Shola Akinlade and Ezra Olubi, initially caught the eye of industry commentators as it was one the first Nigerian tech company to be accepted into the world-famous Y Combinator progam, based in Silicon Valley. Since then, having taken Paystack through Private beta, and securing $120,000 early-stage investment from Y Combinator, Akinlade [CEO] and Olubi [CTO] have quietly been building the company, working to secure this Seed investment round, whilst also building a network of partner merchants in Nigeria, over 1,500, who are now using the platform to accept online payments.

I spoke to Paystack's CEO, Shola Akinlade, to find out how the company is working to fix Nigeria's fragmented online payments system.

Olayinka, a transplanted Lagosian ,founded BUYOVERCHAT TECHNOLOGIES LIMITED after validating the experiment Balogunmarket.ng, a chat commerce platform that connected traders in West Africa’s biggest market with city residents to facilitate commerce using their primary mode of entry into the digital age format,Whatsapp simple messaging.

This experiment validated the idea of and provided learnings in building BuyChat for Africa.

He keeps up interest in Fine-Art Photography in his spare time

The last few years have brought a sudden rise in companies inherently enabled by new messaging technologies. So when Olayinka Oluwakuse pivoted his defunct Balogunmarket.ng to a conversational style, it was seen as a welcome development.

Nike is the Managing Director/CEO of Nike Center for Art and Culture, Osogbo where trainings are offered free of charge to all Nigerians in various forms of arts. The center was established in 1983, by Nike solely from her earnings as an artist and without governmental assistance. Nike opened this center with 20 young girls who were marching the streets in Osogbo aimlessly and who had no hopes for the future. In their tender age, Nike withdrew these girls from the streets and provided them with free food, free materials and free accommodation at her residence at Osogbo and taught them how to use their hands to earn decent livings through the art. So far, over 3000 young Nigerians have been trained in the center and who are now earning their decent livings through art. Many African countries now send their students to study textile art at the center.

The Nike Center for Art and Culture, Osogbo now admits undergraduate students from many universities in Nigeria for their industrial training programs in textile design. Over the years, this center also now admits students from all over Europe, Canada and the United States of America. International scholars and other researchers in traditional African art and culture also visit the center from time to time for their research works into Yoruba "Adire" fabric processing and African traditional dyeing methods.

Nike is also the Owner/Curator of the Nike Art Galleries at Lagos, Osogbo, Ogidi-Ijumu and Abuja. In 1996, Nike established a textile (Aso-Oke) weaving center at Ogidi-Ijumu near Kabba in Kogi State for the women of the village, employing and empowering more than 200 women in the weaving center. In June 2002, Nike established an Art and Culture research center at Piwoyi village, FCT Abuja with an art gallery and a textile museum, the first of its kind in Nigeria which will provide functional platform for research into Nigerian traditional textile industry in the Federal Capital Territory area of Abuja. In furtherance of these noble endeavors, Nike is currently the managing director and founder of the following organizations in Nigeria; "Nike Art Productions Limited" which she incorporated in 1994, "Nike Art Gallery Limited" which she incorporated in 2007 and the "Nike Research Centre for Art and Culture Limited" which she incorporated in 2007. Trash! Get all federal infrastructures out of Lagos and let us see what remains; and why can't the so called Lagos success story be implemented in other States in Nigeria
And what are the federal infrastructures in Lagos?

Did the FG built and commissioned all the projects Tinubu, Fashola and Ambode built and commissioned?

If you are going to make sane and rational sense, you should be comparing what the governors in Akwa Ibom and Lagos state achieved especially Akpabio and Fashola since they entered office at the same time and for almost 8 years, Akpabio with juts 5 million people passed larger budgets than Fashola, but Fashola with over 20 million people still delivered more projects than Akpabio many many times over, even more than the whole of SS and SE.

Apart from the few roads and flyover, Akabio did not commission more than 4 projects after spending 8 years in office even though Akwa Ibom was and still the richest state in Nigeria.

That is the real enemy we must chase back to Iraghiji.

With all these crazy and bewildering acquisitions , it is obvious that this Iragbiji upstart suffers from a disease called AFFLUENZA. It is an incurable malady which makes the pathetic sufferer to pursue blind, greedy, desperate and infectious craving for acquisition after acquisition. Here , the demented sufferer can never stop the craving for unnecessary endless accumulation of wealth. He does not know what is enough. Here wealth is glorified in place of the Almighty God.
