Dr (Mrs) Quincy Olasumbo Ayodele,MD/CEO Quincy Herbal Slimmers
The slogan "If it is not Quincy, then it is not slimmy" Is a popular one amongst people who leave in Nigerian cities. This is because the origin of that slogan, Quincy Herbal Slimmers, is a brand that has stamped its feet and authority in the herbal slimmy sector of the Nigerian natural health industry.
In this incisive interview with Nigeria Natural Health Online's editor, Dumbiri Frank Eboh, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Quincy herbal slimmers, Dr mrs Quincy Olasumbo Ayodele, who is also a World Health Organisation (WHO) expert on the development of African Traditional Medicine, speaks on the making of the Quincy brand and other issues surrounding the practice of traditional medicine in Africa. excerpts.

Let's meet you
I am Doctor Mrs. Quincy Olasumbo Ayodele. I am the MD/CEO of Quincy Herbal Shimmers.

How would you define herbal slimming and how does it differ from other slimmy therapies?
Herbal slimmy is the management of obesity using herbal medicine, nutrition and some physical exercises. It is the use of Agbo to reduce weight. But when I say Agbo, I do not mean the local ones you have along the streets. It has gone quiet beyond that at Quincy Herbal Slimmers.
The herbal medicines we administer here at Quincy Herbal Slimmers have been standardized in dosage and administration. We have been able to make our herbal medicines into tablets and capsules and also liquid and powder forms. They are clinically acceptable by our clients within our community.

Could you tell us a little bit about your background?
Am always very proud to say that am a village girl. I was brought up in the village by my paternal grand-mother. She brought me up with herbal medicine because there was no hospital in my village. My father (now of blessed memory) left me with my grandmother in the village when he was going to further his education abroad. So it was my grandmother that took care of me. I use to be a very sick child then and she was always looking after me with herbal medicine. I did not know any other form of medicine.
I was taking it on a daily bases and that brought me very close to nature at a very young age. And when eventually I got married I came to Lagos to settle with my husband. Of course you know lagos lifestyles is: You eat up all sorts of things and end up adding weight. This made me to be sick again even in Lagos. My grandmother responded by bringing herbal medicine to me. She told me that obesity is the root cause of most diseases. She gave me a lot of helps and gradually my weight got drastically reduced. This was what prompted me into herbals slimmy. I had some friends then who were also obesed and were searching for solution from orthodox medicine. But they did not find any solution there.
But when I introduce them into herbal medicine, they lost their weight. So that was how my practice of herbal slimmy started, eventually, I went back to school to study the scientific aspect of herbal medicine at the Nigeria College of Natural Medicine. I came back with more knowledge. Apart from knowing the helps, I now knew their dosage, their usage and so many other aspects. That’s how the journey started and I thank God for how far he has brought us today.

Would you say Herbal Slimmy is better than Orthodox Slimmy therapy?
As a World Health Organization (WHO) expert on development of African Traditional Medicine, I won’t say one is better than the other. Rather, they complement each other. For instance, we have client who were referred to us by Orthodox practitioners to come and reduce their weight in preparation for their treatments. So they complement each other. We know our limitations, the orthodox practitioners know their limitations. As long as we are both working for the improvement of mankind, our relationship should be complementary.

What are those things that stand Quincy Herbal Slimmers out from the crowd?
The Almighty God has always been there beside us he is the one that called us into the art of using herbs to manage obesity and skin treatment. He has giving us the knowledge to go and heal his people. We have a vision and a mission when we started. Remember what our slogan says: "If it is not Quincy, then it is not slimmy". That was the mission we started with and God has always been there for us. He has given us access to nature. Right now, there is no help or plant that we cannot identify. We know their formulas and how to use them. I can bet you there is no other person doing Herbal Slimmy in Nigeria that has access to nature than Quincy Herbal Slimmers. Of course the result is out there for you to check. Ever since we started herbal slimming in Nigerian, we have been leading the industry. We lead while others follow. Our accessibility to nature is what stands us out from the crowd.

What is the driving force behind the Quincy brand?
Our driving force is our mission and vision. What we are doing is preparing the future generation of herbal practitioners. Quincy will always take the lead in the Nigerian Herbal Industry. We are creating generational wealth in the nearest future; the Quincy brand is going to be all over the world just like Coca-cola. I will sit down here and monitor everything around the world. And that is the driving force of Quincy Herbals which is anchored on redefining traditional medicine practice in Nigeria. It is also about passing the legacy from generation to generation. I got it from my paternal grandmother and I will pass it unto my children – both my biological and non-biological children who are around me. And that is how we are going to pass on this accessibility to nature from generation to generation.

How are you positioned in the market? Is it only for the very rich in the society?
Quincy Herbals Slimmers is very affordable for those who appreciate their health. Health is wealth, you cannot quantify the cost of getting a good health. You should understand that obesity kills. So you cannot really cost it. If you really want to be okay and healthy, the best thing to do is to choose the best outfit that can guarantee you good health. If you want to lose weight properly then you need to go to those who started herbal slimming in Nigeria. So, from that perspective we are quit affordable. We even have special programs for less privileged people and for those who cannot afford our premium prizes but who need that kind of attention to regain their health through weight loss. We have reduced rates for them. So, Quincy Herbal Slimmers is for everybody. You don’t need to go abroad to lose weight properly; you can do that at Quincy Herbals Slimmers instead of going abroad to die there you can come here and reduce your weight, reduce your tummy, reduce your fat, reduce your high cholesterol and those things that can cause ill health to your body. We are here for the benefits of Nigerians and humanity in general, using natural herb as the means of making them to achieve good health...

CMS Grammar School, Lagos.

Oldest secondary school in Nigeria.

The CMS Grammar School in Bariga, a suburb of Lagos in Lagos State, is the oldest secondary school in Nigeria, founded on 6 June 1859 by the Church Missionary Society. For decades it was the main source of African clergymen and administrators in the Lagos Colony.

Foundation

The seed funding for CMS Grammar School, Lagos was made possible by James Pinson Labulo Davies who in April 1859 provided Babington Macaulay with £50 (equivalent of ₦1.34 million as of 2014) to buy books and equipment for the school. With the seed funding Macaulay opened CMS Grammar School on June 6, 1859.[2] In 1867, Davies contributed another £100 (₦2.68 million as of 2014) toward a CMS Grammar School Building Fund.[3] Other contributors to the CMS Building Fund were non Saros such as Daniel Conrad Taiwo AKA Taiwo Olowo who contributed £50. Saro contributors also included men such as Moses Johnson, I.H. Willoughby, T.F. Cole, James George, and Charles Foresythe who contributed £40.[4] The CMS Grammar School in Freetown, founded in 1848, served as a model.

The school began with six students, all boarders in a small, single story building called the 'Cotton House' at Broad Street. The first pupils were destined to be clergymen.[1] The curriculum included English, Logic, Greek, Arithmetic, Geometry, Geography, History, Bible Knowledge and Latin.[5] The first principal of the school was the scholar and theologian Babington Macaulay, who served until his death in 1878.[6] He was the father of Herbert Macaulay.[7] When the British colony of Lagos was established in 1861, the colonial authorities obtained most of their African clerical and administrative staff from the school.[1]

Wole Ogunsanya

MD/CEO Of Geoplex Drillteq Limited

nergy Mix Report recently caught up with Engineer Wole Ogunsanya, the MD/CEO of a leading indigenous service company, Geoplex Drillteq Limited. In this interview, he gives his persective on the impact of the Nigerian Content Act on local companies thus far.

It has been four years since the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act 2010 was enacted into law. How do you feel the legislation has impacted upon your business activities in this time span?

It has been a mix of challenges and successes. We have had to learn to leverage on the benefits of the Local Content Act to grow our business by expanding our capacity and acquiring better technologies to add greater composite value to the Nigerian economy. We secured strategic partnerships with leading original equipment manufacturers, this has precipitated a gradual but consistent process that would see these OEMs set up assembly plants here which would be run by our personnel. This would improve our local content performance indices and create employment for Nigerians as we position our processes to be compliant to global best practices. In essence, the legislation has impacted positively to our business.

Would you say your technical expertise and capability to handle complex jobs have improved with the inception of the Act?

Technology acquisition and manpower development have been pivotal to our business. We have seen our business grow from a single product line with severely limited capabilities to one that provides solutions to complex problems across diverse terrains from land to deepwater. We have acquired Slickline technology, expanded into Directional Drilling, Well testing, tubular inspection and riser maintenance services. We continually invest in the training and development of our personnel because they are the drivers of our success therefore we ensure they get the knowledge and skills in the industry. Our systems are built on continuous improvement, so we would keep working to get better at what we do. With increase in acquisition of tools and equipment and support from our technical partners, our technical expertise has improved tremendously since inauguration of the Act.

How effective do you feel the Nigerian Content Development & Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has been in enforcing the Nigerian Content Act and in terms of ensuring that the multinationals comply with the relevant provisions of the Act?

The board so far has been effective in ensuring that multinationals do not drive local companies out of business by their sheer size and tendency towards anti-competitive business strategies, through ensuring that Land / Swamp Contracts are awarded to local companies. However a lot more needs to be done. The board needs to set up a framework that would cause multinationals to transfer expertise and technologies to Nigerians as part of a broader strategy to ensure rapid industrialization of the country.

What are the major challenges your business as well as other indigenous companies are currently facing in terms of patronage from multinationals and as regards the promotion of local content in general?

Multinationals have come to realize that we deliver great value at minimal cost so the initial challenge of trust has been overcome. Our business requires considerably enormous financing to acquire tools and redress parts, interest rates have stood between us and the scope of work which our multinational partners often require. Epileptic power supply has increased our overhead costs and led to depletion of funds which should have been invested in technology acquisition. Indigenous companies are still faced with acquiring required technologies needed in some specialized services due to unavailability of tools in the open market thus invariably providing more opportunities for the multinational service companies with patented tools. With government support in providing adequate infrastructures and basic amenities, I believe we can establish research centers that will facilitate the manufacturing of tools and equipment to meet the industry demand.

What suggestions would you put forward to improve the local Content drive in Nigeria?

Indigenous companies should be granted tax and import duty waivers, this would allow the companies grow their businesses and break even at a sustainable rate. The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board needs to work with banks to set up a special interest rate regime for indigenous contractors, this would improve access to funds for renewed investments in the industry. The government should also provide basic amenities that will facilitate local development of Research centers, manufacturing and fabrication plants that can be used in producing tools and equipment locally within the country.

LADOL and Samsung Heavy Industries in $300m investment
In a development that both the Chairman and founder Chief Oladipo Jadesimi and Managing Director Dr. Amy Jadesimi described as “game-changing”, LADOL and Samsung broke ground on a $300m state-of-the-art facility, Africa’s first and largest vessel fabrication and integration facility.

It was groundbreaking for the Nigerian petroleum industry in more ways than one, according to Dr Jadesimi. The wealth and income created for the country is no longer contained solely in the oil itself, but in the world class services around the extraction of it.

“It shows that for the first time Nigeria is seriously entering the lucrative upsteam oil and gas development value chain.”

“This represents a real opportunity for Nigeria to earn as many oil and gas dollars from its engineering, services and manufacturing as it does from oil and gas exports. As these activities have greater capacity for job creation, it will inevitably lead to sustained economic growth and poverty reduction.”

Local content laws strengthen oil, gas industry

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, (NCDMB), says the emergence of local content laws have strengthen the nation’s oil and gas industry.

Executive Secretary of the agency, Engineer Simbi Wabote, who disclosed this during a facility tour of the base at the Apapa Ports Complex, Lagos, said the activities at the Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics base, (LADOL), is a testimony of the success story of local content laws in Nigeria.

LADOL is currently playing host to the fabrication of a $3.8 billion oil and gas logistics service facility commonly known as the Floating Production Storage and Offloading -FPSO rig, otherwise called the Egina project.

Engineer Wabote who noted that the compliance level was satisfactory, said he was particularly gratified that such remarkable feat was coming from a 100 per-cents Nigerian-owned facility, even as “they are moving up in compliance with our directives
