Truck pulls down pedestrian bridge in Osun

A truck has pulled down part of the pedestrian bridge built across the Ibadan-Ife Express Way at Ikire town.

Our correspondent gathered that the truck which was traveling towards Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, hit the bridge, and the upper deck came crashing down, causing traffic hold up.

So, the bypass in Osun is the reason why your own crooked and incompetent governor gave you a death trap grin

Is it not even better to spend 10 years and end up with a good product than spend less time and end up with a death trap like the one your governor saddled you with?

Celebrities › Re: Nkem Owoh Osuofia Speaks On Biafra (Video, Photos) by deomelo: 1:39am On Jun 22, 2017
FakoMaybach1:
OP not only is your headline a blatant lie, your translation has left out so many facts and decided to pick the ones u need for your sensational cause.

How i wish Osuofia could sue you for Libel with this your headline, Osuofia called for Intellectual discourse, he called for restructuring with peace, he only added that if after discussion we find that we as a nation cannot cohabit then Biafra can leave.

You have given sketchy translations and i find it distasteful, the agitation of Biafra should be based on truth, Justice and Equity; not lies or "Alternative facts"

Everything Osuofia said in this interview is what people have been echoing, we need to discuss on how to restructure Nigeria, let every region control its resources. Yes he bemoaned the security apparatus of the country shooting unarmed people, and he also said Biafra can cohabit. But this 13 minute interview which i listened from beginning to the end is not a call for Biafra as you put it.

@lalasticlala @mind44 please do something about this misleading headline.

On the interview, i also concur with Osuofia, it is time to take this agitation to an intellectual level. Any house of rep member or senator that does not buy into the cause should be recalled. I believe if Kogi people can recall dino then we can recall any senator that is playing the Ostrich in this obvious marginalization and humiliation meted out on Igbos by the Buhari administration.
As osuofia said which i agree, it is due to grievances that this call for Biafra is emanating, i mean how can it be that no security chief is an Igbo man; not even civil defense!!!. So if the security of the country is being discussed no Igbo man will be present Haba!!
Per the last part of your post.

Good to know we are now downgrading the discussion from separation to restructuring.

Now, the new phrase in the east is restructuring while the phrase they've been using and what theve been calling for the the SW is True Federalism.

Injustice is not limited to any region in the country if you rally want to be honest, but only the SE is calling for separation because of injustice

You mentioned appointments and I find it supprising that the SW was left out of choice appointments under GEJ while the SE took nearly all the positions.

The SW side not call for separation or agitate, it was a political issue and they handled it politically and this is what what the SW still don't know how to do.
Politics › Re: " Yorùbá Is No Coward" -cardinal Olubunmi Okogie by deomelo:
At every point in time the Yoruba employees power of reasoning over emotion whilst some other nationals resort to emotion, intimidation, threat and outright force. Me think the approach of the Yoruba is the best in the circumstances. It is not cowardice to subject issues to empirical analysis before taking a decision. I am a Yoruba man, I am proud to be one and I would go for the Yoruba approach which is laced with loads and loads of native intelligence. We don't need to stand in front of a moving train just to prove bravery. It is the height of stupidity.
I don't care much for Afenifere, but I wholeheartedly subscribe to the above thinking.

Break up is inevitable sooner or later, but we don't have to turn our land into a war zone and have our gains and environment destroyed because of other people's empty and shallow chest beating or some silly games and scheming in the North.

As things stand right now in Nigeria, we are the most powerful and in a better position to successfully function as a stable, independent and wealthy Country ahead of the other regions.

Brute force, meaningless agitations, gaming and scheming like they do in the North and the SE has nothing to do with strength, it's nothing but a sad reflection of their own insecurities.

You cry every day, agitate every day and intimidate other people because you know you are in a precarious situation and you are not sure about your standing and future, but we are so why get in the middle of other people's madness?

Look at the North you are equating with strength and bravery, what have they gained with their decades of scheming and aggression?

They haven't gained anything while on the other hand, we still hold the cards. All the major sectors of the economy are under our control in our region?

How many investors are heading to the North or the SE or SS to invest? Almost none?

For decades till now, we have nearly all the industries, goods and services and nearly all the investments entering Nigeria today ends up in the SW, this is strength.

With the current arrangements in Nigeria, we hold cards across the board from industries to finance, insurance, media, ICT, entertainment, pop culture, innovation, infrastructure and so on.

Let other people carry on with their madness, we'll pull our cards when we are ready.

We don't need to stand in front of a moving train just to prove bravery. It is the height of stupidity.

Politics › Re: Ambode Signs Agreement With Investors On Lagos 3,000 MW Embedded Power Project by deomelo: 12:03am On Jun 22, 2017
omohayek:
I find that prospect quite troubling, not because I don't appreciate the sentiment behind it, but because it creates room for problems down the line, if the state should ever find itself unable to pay the subsidies for the retail consumers.

I think it would be better in the long run to offer no subsidies at all, and allow these embedded operators to cater exclusively to businesses which are willing and able to pay market rates, which will in turn support the growth of businesses that can hire more workers at high enough salaries that they won't need government subsidies to pay their electricity bills. The focus on subsidizing mass consumption - thereby encouraging even more such consumption - is one of the main reasons why Nigeria now has to import most refined its oil while its 4 refineries are lying largely idle, as they don't charge enough for petrol to cover their operating costs.

I know it's not the popular thing to do, and I'm sure Ambode thinks it will help his 2nd term chances, but subsidizing retail customers is exactly the wrong way to go. It would be better to simply let the business sector thrive on 99.9% available commercially priced power, and let that indirectly push up retail customers' incomes instead.
You raised critical and valid points.

The only problem I see on the horizon which probably won't manifest anyway is if the parties involved reneges or transgressed. I don't see this affecting the state directly since the entire project is going to be privately funded and all the state is doing is standing in as prestige guarantor for easy lending and not necessarily the moneybag or subsidizing entity.

The whole power issue is currently going nowhere because of funding issues, creative and daring leadership so Lagos state/Ambode stepping in to bridge the gap is a great move to get get rid of the impasse and get the ball rolling.

I do agree that in terms of consumption, business should be prioritized for guaranteed returns and rapid economic growth with collateral benefits like job and income growth and also improved state IGR.

This is a win-win situation for Lagos state

Grundig:
Honestly, gej and OBJ got this power issue wrong. What ambode is doing is exactly what they should've created. Every state should provide its electricity need.

Nonetheless, I see good news all round. When this Lagos initiative is complete, they'll leave the national grid thereby making more megawatts available for the parts of the country.
As a visionary public official like many right thinking leaders in Lagos state, Tinubu followed this path when he built the first IPP in Nigeria/271MW after securing guarantee right there in Lagos state, but because of politics, shortsightedness and lack of foresight, OBJ trashed the agreement and nationalized the project by sending it into the National grid.

The FG is still deducting the loans the from Lagos State's Federal allocations. This happened over a decade ago, but just imagine Lagos state today without FG meddling and destructive politics. This single incident halted Lagos's IPP dreams and energy self-sufficiency.

In that case, the key question is whether the power providers will be forced to deal with retail customers and offer them below-market rates, or whether they'll be allowed to only deal with businesses that are willing to pay enough to make it worthwhile to guarantee 24/7 supply. If the latter, then it will be easy to justify building out the distribution infrastructure to reach industrial estates, commercial buildings. The key problem with Nigeria's power sector is the misguided populism that has forced the GENCOs and DISCOs to operate at a loss.
Good question.

I'm thinking the state's overall interest in this project is the general public and consumers hence the state inserting guarantees and also using taxpayers entities like Ibile Oil & Gas company.

The problem with GENCOS started even before privatization because to survive and operate successfully in the power business, you need funds and credit facilities to expand operations from generation to front-end services like billing and collection, but ti adequately bill and collect, you have to first provide excellent service which they are not doing so where is the incentives to pay for poor service?

Also, they are not entering other areas or selling products like residential solar power systems like equipping residential homes with solar power systems and have them make monthly payments or installments till the cost of the unit is paid off. Consumers won't hesitate to pay because with solar systems, they are almost guaranteed 24/7 electricity.

Unfortunately, they DISCOS are financially strapped and lending institutions are not willing to fund their operations because of the DISCO's shaky and almost doomed business models and uncertain ROI.

At the moment, the DISCOS are pretty much useless and can not function optimally.

This is excellent news! Dependable power is the one missing ingredient Lagos requires to really power ahead even faster than it already has. If this agreement is structured properly, without requiring the power to be distributed via the incompetent PHCN, or forcing the power companies to sell below cost to retail customers who prefer to steal their electricity, the boost it will give to business in Lagos will allow the state to match and even surpass the growth rates of the East Asian "tiger" economies at their peak.

Ambode has done his bit, but now the question is whether the FG will allow Lagos the freedom to fully capitalize on this move, or insist as usual on the same centralized, inept control that has crippled the rest of the country's power generation and distribution.
The fact that this is an embedded system means every MW shall remain in Lagos state, but the only issue here is the capacity to transmit and distribute.

Best News ever out of Nigeria in a long long time.

This is the solid and visionary project we've been expecting Ambode to come up with and he sure did.

This sounds like a well thought out project with all the bases covered.

With Dangote refinery, gas plant, petrochemical and fertilizer plants coming upstream in less than 2 years, it's a wrap, Lagos is about to be one of the top 3 economies in Africa.
