PoliticsPeter Obi Honours Umar Who Saved Community From Fire After Tanker Caught Fire by DesChyko(op): 6:01pm On Apr 14, 2025

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKohI2nqr8g

Today in Akwanga, Nasarawa State during our journey from Jos, Mr. Peter Obi made a touching stop at the Lafiya Road Market—not just as a leader, but as someone deeply moved by a powerful act of bravery.

He came to recognize a young hero named Umar, whose quick thinking and selfless courage saved an entire community and surrounding businesses. When a fire broke out as a tanker offloaded fuel at a filling station, they were unable to put out the fire. While people scampered away for safety, Umar didn’t flee. Instead, he sprang into action. Risking his own life, he entered the burning tanker and drove it out and away from the filling station, preventing what could have been a major devastating explosion. Unfortunately, some shops close to how far he could take the tanker before jumping out, were burnt.

Thanks to Umar’s fearless decision, countless lives, businesses, and homes were protected. Akwanga remains safe because one man chose to act with courage when it mattered most. His Excellency, Peter Obi highlighted the grave importance of this act of bravery in this difficult times, where a huge amount of life, businesses, and properties could have been lost.

This is the Nigeria we believe in—where ordinary people become heroes, and where true leadership means pausing to say: we see your courage, we honour your sacrifice, and we are inspired by your example.

PoliticsRe: Labour Laments High Cost Of Living, Braces For Wage Renegotiation by DesChyko:
This is in order. ₦70,000 minimum wage is a bad joke. To be realistic, let me prompt Grok to work on a realistic minimum wage. Here is the analysis:

Grok: In 2019, Nigeria’s minimum wage was ₦30,000. To propose an appropriate 2025 minimum wage, we analyzed inflation and rising costs of living, food, petrol, education, and healthcare from 2019 to 2025.
Inflation: Cumulative inflation is ~309.5%, making ₦30,000 worth ~₦122,850 in 2025 terms.

Specific Costs:
Food ~300–400% increase (e.g., ₦20,000 to ~₦80,000–₦100,000 for a 50kg bag of rice).
Transportation ~360–380% rise (e.g., petrol cost: ₦145 to ~₦668/litre).
Education: ~200–300% higher (e.g., school fees up from ₦10,000 to ~₦50,000/term).
Healthcare: ~200–300% rise (e.g., consultations from ₦2,000 to ~₦10,000).
Living Wage: A family of 3–4 needs ~₦145,500–₦190,500/month for basics (food: ₦80,000–₦100,000, housing: ₦15,000–₦30,000, transport: ₦18,000–₦23,000, education: ₦17,500, health: ₦15,000–₦20,000).

Considering inflation, higher rises in essentials, and economic feasibility, the proposed minimum wage is ₦150,000/month. This covers a living wage and restores 2019 purchasing power.
NLC is very much in order. The previous increment was a quarter-step in the right direction, but never sustainable.

If only he had read the charge sheet, it was mentioned many times that Moss was of IRS.

Problems of relying on WhatsApp information. Not sure why they're crying though. It's already in public space right? Focus on governance then, and let the opposition waste their time.

That's common sense, No?

Diaspora remittances is a key reason Nigeria still breathes as a country. There is not enough jobs for the teeming youth; not enough advancement for the geniuses amongst us to thrive; yet the government is pushing that we all suffocate here??

Crazy.

Tightening the noose, I see. Can't blame them. USA had sometimes played the devil's advocate, some times played the big brother; all the while bleeding funds for 'unserious' countries.

A 12-year study showed they've given almost twice more in aids to world causes, than any other country in the world. Even a 2023 trade report with their Top 20 trade partners showed that they have a trading surplus with only 5 of them (total of $76 billion) and a huge deficit with the rest 15 (total of $1.1 trillion).

It is common sense that they step back and take care of America first, once in a while.

And they are not stopping anytime soon. Now Civic Education textbooks by their kinsmen are spreading tales to school kids that Igbos invaded, kidnapped, and sold Yorubas into slavery prompting the intervention of Moremi of Ife. No historical records backs this proof; just tales from dark hearts.

After the story of his incanceration hit the media space less than 72 hours ago and was reported here, concerned citizens took it upon themselves to look into this situation and the following ensued:

👉A visit was made to the Magistrate Court in Apapa on April 9, 2025, regarding Alabi Quadri's arrest and remand.

👉Alabi was visited at the Kirikiri Custodial Centre by legal representatives, family, and a social activist.

👉Alabi has been in detention since January 2025.

👉He was abducted near his home by local area boys while returning from work.

👉The abduction stemmed from unresolved tensions after Alabi stood before Peter Obi’s convoy in 2023.

👉Area boys, angry over not receiving money from Alabi, falsely accused him and took him to the police.

👉He was wrongfully charged with armed robbery alongside four strangers.

👉The alleged robbery involved N579,000 in cash and mobile phones.

👉Alabi appears to be a victim of Nigeria’s flawed justice system.

👉Alabi is a minor, under 18 years old.

👉He has appeared in court three times and remains remanded pending DPP’s legal advice.

👉Legal efforts are ongoing to secure his release.

PoliticsNigeria Happened To Alabi Quadri; Labour Party Poster Boy In Kirikiri Prison. by DesChyko(op):
Inibehe Effiong, a Nigerian human rights lawyer and activist shares the harrowing details of Alabi Quadri's sojourn in detention since January, despite being below 18 years old.

"We were at the Magistrate Court of Lagos, Apapa Magisterial District, today the 9th day of April, 2025 to ascertain the facts and circumstances that led to the arrest, detention and subsequent remand of Alabi Quadri at the Minimum Security Custodial Centre, Kirikiri, Apapa, Lagos."

"After spending several hours at the court, I was accompanied by a colleague from our law firm, Alabi’s mother and other family members and relatives to visit Alabi at the custodial centre. Also in attendance was the social activist who brought the case to public attention."

"Given the interest expressed by members of the public, it is necessary to make this preliminary statement."

"We can confirm that Alabi has been in detention since January."

"He was abducted by ‘Area Boys’ close to his home while returning from work."

"According to Alabi and his mother, his painful walk to prison can be attributed to the prolonged malice nursed by some self-acclaimed area boys of his locality who felt entitled to a share of the unexpected fortune that came Alabi’s way when he halted and stood in front of the convoy of the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. PeterObi during the last electioneering campaign. "

"Since he failed to properly “settle” some people, it has been one attack to another."

"After abducting Alabi, the same area boys who have been threatening to deal with him for not sharing the money he was gifted dragged him to the Amukoko Police Station (Pako Police Station) where he was detained."

"The area boys initially claimed that Alabi was one of the young men who has been involved in street fights."

"However, it came as a rude shock when the Police took him before a Magistrate along with four other individuals who are complete strangers to him, alleging that he conspired with them to commit “Armed Robbery” with cutlasses."

"The Police in the charge sheet alleged that the alleged two victims were robed of money and four mobile phones."

"The value of both the physical cash and four phones is N579,000 only."

"I spent about two hours interviewing Alabi about the veracity of the charges brought by the police. Speaking objectively, we all left Kirikiri with a strong conviction that this gentleman is just another victim of Nigeria’s criminal justice system."

"The last point that we want to state on the record is that Alabi is a Minor. He is less than 18 years."

"Currently, Alabi has appeared before the Magistrate on three occasions."

"The court remanded him along with the four strange individuals who are all adults at the custodial centre pending Legal Advice by the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP)."

"We shall provide additional information and the available legal options subsequently. Suffice it to say that we will do all that is legally permissible to secure Alabi’s freedom."

"Thank you for your kind attention."

Miss Isioma Nwosu, the overall best student of Lagos State University (LASU) for the 2023/2024 academic session, says she thought she had failed in life when she could not secure admission to study medicine and surgery.

Nwosu, who graduated with a cumulative grade point average of 4.93 from the department of biochemistry, made this known in her valedictory speech at the 28th convocation ceremony of LASU.

LASU awarded diplomas, degrees and certificates at the event which took place at its main campus in Ojo.

Nwosu said that she had never heard of biochemistry until LASU offered her admission to the course
.

“In 2019, after graduating as the valedictorian of my secondary school, I faced a setback and had to re-write UTME.

“A valedictorian writing UTME again? It was a bitter pill to swallow. My dream was to study medicine and surgery at the University of Ibadan.

“I fell just two points below the cut-off mark. The news of my repeat spread like a wildfire in my secondary school.

“I thought I had failed in life
,” she said.

Nwosu said that she equally applied for medicine and surgery at LASU but was offered biochemistry.

This time, I made LASU my first choice and, again, aiming for medicine and surgery.
”My heart broke the second time
,” she said.

She said that she could not embrace the course in her first year. She said that some of her lecturers and friends, however, encouraged her to put in her best.

Nwosu advised students to study hard and be confident.

She also advised her fellow graduands to believe in themselves regardless of their grades.

“You completed this phase. You are resilient, capable and prepared for the future. The world is waiting for your greatness and manifestation.

“To everyone listening, never be afraid of having big dreams, your dreams are the seeds of greatness.

“Additionally, surround yourself with friends with values and equal visions and ambitions,” she said.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, charged the graduating students to ‘write their stories the way they want it to be told’.

She said the university was proud to confer diplomas and degrees on a total of 11,917 students who had been found worthy by the senate of the university.

“They have demonstrated excellence in both character and learning and are therefore worthy of being awarded the certificate of this prestigious university.

“The ultimate goal is to use your knowledge and skill to drive meaningful change wherever you find yourselves,” she told the graduating students.
