Which camera can this be? Currently using Camon 12 but I wish to switch phones
Abiodunspectre: Most recently "Camera" has become the biggest unique selling proposition of most smartphone manufacturers and a lot of emphasis have always been placed around the number of mega pixel that's packed in the phone camera.
But does really matter how many mega pixel a smartphone for has and do you in any way believe that the amount of mega pixel in a phone camera determine the camera quality or image output produced by that Smartphone?
Watch this short explanation by Miss techy on Smartphone cameras and the usefulness of bigger mega Pixel.
Still enjoying my Camon 12. What's the name deal about the new Camon 15?
nnaomaog: The Camon series is one of TECNO Mobile’s best smartphone series. The series focuses on equipping a smartphone with the best camera technology possible. And in today’s phone market, the camera is an essential feature of a smartphone. They say “Moments don’t last forever, so make it memorable”, one of the many ways to make it memorable is by capturing the moment. Taking photos and videos of our precious life’s moment with the help of our smartphone’s front-facing camera. The TECNO Camon smartphones usually have the very best of camera technology in the Africa market.
Over the years, we have witnessed the evolution of TECNO’s Camon camera. The latest being the TECNO Camon 12, which was released in September 2019. The first Camon smartphone was launched back in 2015 – the TECNO Camon C8. The selfie camera of the Camon C8 features a 5MP sensor, which was quite good at the time. See picture 1
Then in 2016, we had the second generation of the Camon series – the Camon C9. The device features a 13MP front-facing camera, which is more than twice what is available on the C8. See picture 2
March 2017 saw the birth of the third Camon device – the Camon CX, which features a 16MP selfie camera alongside a quad-LED flash to help brighten photos in low-light conditions. The evolution will then take a step backwards in January 2018, as the then-new Camon CM comes with a 13MP front-facing camera. Don’t know if you know this quote – “minor setback for a major comeback”?See picture 3
Just before the end of 2018, TECNO Mobile bounced back with the release of the Camon X and Camon X Pro. The Camon X packs a large 20MP selfie shooter while the Camon X Pro comes with an even larger 24MP selfie shooter. See picture 4
From 2018 ending to 2019, the company launched the Camon 11 followed by the Camon 12 with dual and triple cameras at the back. It is sufficing to say that we are now in the ERA of Multi-Smartphone cameras. See picture 5
TECNO Next Generation Camon Smartphone
TECNO Mobile is yet to announce any information regarding the next Camon smartphone. The naming of the Camon series is something that has not been in an orderly manner since inception. So who knows what the next Camon will be, 13? 14? Or 15?
It is only right to assume the next Camon smartphone will feature a vastly improved AI camera. The upcoming phone will definitely come with a larger megapixel than what we have on previous devices.
Let us know what you think will be the name of the next TECNO Camon smartphone in the comment section below and what megapixel camera it will feature.
Do you live in a fast-paced, heavy traffic city like Lagos? Then you know quite well that we were lied to growing up. No one told us that adulthood will be this fast-paced and tough. As if hustling and bustling through the day aren’t hard enough, heavy traffic had to be added to the mix. But we are Nigerians, we are strong and resilient and we have nightlife!
Nothing beats Lagos nightlife guys. Absolutely nothing. And the fun doesn’t just stop in Lagos. I know for a fact that other cities have great nocturnal activities too. So, the days might get rough and frustrating, but the nights are always there for us to unwind and get new air under our wings!
Several restaurants across the country offer awesome live music and entertainment, some even turn into dance clubs most nights of the week, while others turn into amazing karaoke bars as the nights proceed. This isn’t even to mention the oh-so-fantastic food in all shades and forms.
Then there are clubs, and point and kill joints, and football showing centres, drinking bars, pepper soup joints, and even night gaming centres. The list is endless, the beautiful experience unlimited.
There is a downside to this though. Imagine this; you are having a beautiful time, and you whip out your phone to make videos and or take pictures. The best you’ll get is a really dark photo with flashes of eyes and teeth. If there is no sufficient light, then you are automatically getting a really bad photo. This right here is the downside. You’re flexing and enjoying life, but the memory can’t be captured. Most times when I get stubborn and snap those pictures anyway, I end up deleting them myself, most times angrily.
TECNO has been changing the game, releasing smartphones that shoot amazing images even at night. The information has it that they are about to release a new phone to top the previous Camon 12 Series night king. A new TECNO phone is about to be launched. And I hear it is going to be the birth of the true night shot king. Oh, what joy.
According to leaks, the new TECNO phone will be armed with a new technology trademarked TAIVOS™. Apparently, TAIVOS is short for TECNO AI Vision Optimization Solution. Sources say that a dedicated microprocessor will work together with AI algorithms to do one job and one job only; significantly enhance night-time photography.
According to analysis, TAIVOS™ will help improve other photo effects with its ability to increase the sharpness and brightness in digital image signals. When the user is combining cutting-edge camera hardware and powerful algorithms, TAIVOS™ is the missing link that gets all features working together to deliver amazing pictures with a burst of colours.
This is very interesting and exciting! Just days ago, we heard that the new TECNO phone will be equipped with a SONY chip and a whopping 64 mega pixels. We thought that was enough to make the camera outstandingly amazing. But we were wrong. Will you blame us though? The SONY chip news is such a big deal. With the chip, the phone will be the first of its kind in Africa.
We certainly didn’t see this new feature coming. TECNO sure knows how to surprise their fans. The brand says TECNO is for Nigerians and I am starting to believe it! They know how much our nightlife means to us, and they took it upon themselves to solve the one, nightlife problem we have. I really hope all these will be true and not just some leaks thought out by someone.
Corroro: As far as phones are concerned, camera quality is one of the important features for a user when it comes to selecting a new smartphone. Everyone wants to be able to have a very clear image depicting that amazing lifetime experience they have had. In recent times, Smartphone companies are launching their phones with dual and triple rear cameras. There has been a lot of development in the field of machine learning and artificial intelligence in a few years. Thanks to this, the Triple Camera in the Smartphone is now capable of taking professional photographs. The Tri-camera in the rear can give a very clear photo in low light. Also, by taking the desired details with Wide Angle and Zoom, it is helpful to take a lot to take clear snaps.
In addition to this, Triple rear cameras are very useful for highlighting objects or faces as compared to the background. For example, the Night mode in Huawei P20 Pro enables you to take photos for six seconds of exposure time and the wide angle mode on the TECNO Camon 12 pro enables you to take images with a very wide coverage angle. In summary, these dual, triple camera gives the user the facility to click beautiful pictures.
Now lets us elaborate some basics supposing a phone has a specification of rear camera as : 32MP f1.7 aperture (Main)+8MP(Ultra wide)+5MP f2.2(Live Focus) and see how these three camera affects photography.
What is aperture? Aperture is a hole in the lens through which light enter into the camera. If aperture size is large then incoming light is more compare to the one whose aperture is small. Aperture size is measured in terms of ‘f number’ or ‘f stop’.
All of us have seen the specification of camera given above as an example, there is a no. written like f1.7 that is the aperture value of the lens. ‘F’ is always written before the no.
Depth of field is a distance between nearest and farthest objects in the image. That is the distance between foreground parts of image to the background parts of image. Dof can either be large or shallow. The lens with small aperture size has large depth of field. in this case we will get a whole image in focus. There is no background blurring effect.(Main Camera) The lens with large aperture has shallow depth of field because that lens mainly focus on the area that we want in image and background part got blurred. One benefit of large aperture size is that in night we get a clearer picture because in night light entering in the camera is more. (Live focus)
Wide Angle Lens: Today all camera phones are coming with ultra wide angle (up to 1200 ) lens. How this ultra wide feature of lens is achieved? The answer is focal length. The lens with smaller focal length provide wide angle pictures. This type of lens allows more of the scene to be included in the photograph, which is useful in architectural, interior and landscape photography where the photographer may not be able to move farther from the scene to photograph it.
Other benefits of Triple cameras include:
1) Higher Resolution Image: If you have a higher resolution camera then it will give you a very good image which will be worth printing. You can also use this photo of Professional Quality for zooming and cropping. Despite much zoom and distance, you will get many details in your images.
2) Better low light Image: In this Tri-camera system, an additional camera improves the condition of the light in the photo. A high-speed monochrome sensor with better light sensitivity is capable of providing a good snap in very low light or at night too.
3) Multi-Aperture for accurate and clear image: Just like high-resolution and low-light sensitivity is necessary, a switchable aperture is also beneficial in the camera. Aperture is an important factor that determines how much light the sensor has to reach. Here, more light means to give a bright picture in the dark, that too with low noise. Telephoto or wide-angle lenses are also using this technique.
4) Zoom further to capture more details: In the triple camera system, the additional camera is able to zoom more. For example, the camera of HUAWEI P20 Pro offers a 3x zoom. That higher zoom means getting very good details even with distant captures.
5) More Stabilized Image: If you want HDR images with more exposure, and without the risk of getting a blurred image, then a dedicated monochrome sensor is the best option for you. The triple camera helps to make your image more stable.
6) Better Portrait with Bokeh and Depth detection: With soft-bokeh and background blur effects, you succeed in getting good portraits. Although it is possible to do both with the dual camera, a dedicated third camera can provide better results by providing more depth to your images.
7) Wide-angled Snaps: Wide-angle images have been one of the favorite options for most of us. In such images, a wider view can be captured in the same frame. Often with zoom, you can’t fully capture your desired large view. Here, the same wide-angle feature can help you a lot to capture a wider snap.
It is to also note that to get a beautiful picture, some other function also matters like distance of camera from the subject and other settings. Here only the basics that smartphones companies have specified in their camera were discussed.
Iike my privacy so much...that's why I personalise my phone
andelawhite: Would you let someone use your cell phone to make a call? How about to search the internet? Or send a text message? Just how private are you with your cell phone?
Phones have become personalized. I remember when a household had a single phone that everyone used, and when others in that household could listen in on your phone call by picking up a receiver in another room. But now everybody has their own phone. We personalize our phones. Choose your color, your apps, your decorative case. We’ve become very possessive of our phones.
Of course we’re possessive of many of our things – I guess that’s why we call them possessions. Over 100 years ago, before there were even landline phones, William James noted that one’s self includes everything to which the label ‘my’ can be applied. My clothes, my house, my job, and yes my family. Some of these are more crucial to one’s self than others. When any of these are harmed, the self is hurt. If someone steals something important to your self-understanding, then it feels as though you’ve been deeply injured and that you’ve lost part of you.
Some of these feelings reflects how we use some objects to interact with the world (see I am my car and my toothbrush). But some of the feelings also reflect our choosing the objects as expressions of who we are, as status symbols. People have defined themselves by their objects at least as long as we’ve been collecting objects.
The cell phone is clearly part of how people interact with the world. For many people, their social life depends on their cell phone. They connect with others through the phone. And for many people, their identities are tied up in their phones, the internet, and social media (see Are you addicted to your cell phone?). The phone has become part of who they are.
So I shouldn’t have been, but I was surprised by a conversation I recently had with a colleague and some students. As we were talking about when and how people use their phones, the students all displayed clear discomfort at the idea of letting someone use their phones. No. That was the basic response to the idea of letting someone use their phones. If it really had to happen, they would set everything up so this other person could make a phone call.
I can’t imagine they would let that person out of sight during the call, and certainly they would expect to get their phone immediately. It just felt too personal, too private, and too intimate to let someone use. Just a simple “No.” They would prefer to not even be asked and would avoid someone whose phone had died just so they wouldn’t be asked.
This generation posts widely about the private details of their lives. But they’re also a generation that doesn’t want anyone to touch their phone. Although these seem like contradictions, it may be part of the same issue. They want control over their selves. They decide what to post. Their phone is so important to the self, that it feels like an invasion for someone else to touch their phone.
In some ways, we never outgrow our childhood sense of possessiveness. This is my toy and you can’t touch it. The question is what toys result in such a tight sense of ownership, of importance to the self. I’m unlikely to loan my car to someone. You might feel uncomfortable having stay in your house and sleep in your bed when you’re out of town. Where do you draw your line of what is a critical part of your self? For the millennials, the self includes their cell phones.
Clearly the phone is more than a toy. So much of their lives are stored and embedded in their phones. Their phones hold their pictures, their friends, their passwords, their entire lives. Loaning the phone is far too personal and intimate to contemplate. So if your phone dies and you need to borrow someone else’s, you might not want to ask a millennial. You would make them cringe to imagine letting you touch their phones.
A whopping 64 megapixels, and then run on SoNy Chip...
Uchechiokpara39: What do you think has become the single most important feature of a smartphone? I know this has been an ongoing debate, and today, we are going to lay it to rest once and for all.
Personally, I’ll say it’s hands down the camera. I mean, what’s a smartphone if its camera won’t turn bland ordinary moments into beautifully captured memories with bursts of colours. But that is just my take on the matter. What do I know though? Why don’t we see what the experts have to say?
According to MIT TECHNOLOGY REVIEW, more megapixels come tops amongst the technology innovations that smartphone manufacturers are expected to prioritize and continually enhance in order to obtain the leading market position and earn creativity bragging rights.
The review states that the demand for more megapixels has become a key mobile phone trend because, as it stands now, a great camera enhances the lifestyle of smartphone users.
So, it is settled; a great camera is the best feature of a smartphone. And it would seem that TECNO is in on this too.
Here is why I think so; according to news making the rounds in the tech world, the smartphone brand is planning to change the entire dynamics of mobile phone photography by partnering with SONY on their next phone.
Sources say the new NEXT CAMON series might be equipped with a whopping 64 megapixels, and once released, will be the first phone in Africa to run on the SONY chip.
This is mega huge?! Do you know what this means? You have to take a pause to process what having a 64 million pixels camera on your phone would mean! Everything will be magnified. Every detail is delicate and clear. Even a dark portrait is bright and clear.
With a 64MP smartphone camera, the user can zoom to the extreme, even to an object 30 meters away. Think sweeping evening landscapes with still-life detail you can zoom right into, and you are starting to get the picture. Every detail, no matter how tiny, will be captured and clearly seen, even to tiny insects and the fluff of their backs.
We all know that TECNO has always been dedicated to camera smartphone technology and has solid technology accumulation, plus they have proven over and over that TECNO is indeed for Nigerians. But we didn’t see this coming. Is Nigeria even ready for this level of exquisite technology?! Brace yourself guys, things will never remain the same. If this is even a little bit true, TECNO will change the smartphone game forever! I don’t know about you, but I am definitely keeping my fingers crossed for this one.
Mobile phone cameras are a powerful tool for those who can’t afford expensive equipment but are interested in expressing their creativity.
WHEN MOBILE PHONE cameras first came into existence, there was little indication that they would evolve into the miniature powerhouses that exist today. For example, the first mass-market camera phone released in 2000 only had a 0.11-megapixel (MP) camera and was considered more of a gimmick.
It’s been almost two decades since then, and technology has improved by leaps and bounds. Now, some phones contain cameras that are good enough for professional photographers.
One such photographer is Michael Christopher Brown, who gained renown through his visual coverage of the Libyan war in 2011. When the war broke out, he visited Libya and brought all of his professional camera equipment. All of it was dead within a week.
Picture 2: Michael Christopher Brown shares photography tips with a group of young photographers at a camp in Nigeria.
Unperturbed, Brown continued filming the war through his phone. While he initially began the journey with a desire to understand the conflict, he instead was taken on a life-changing experience. According to him, mobile photography played a key part in letting this happen.
“You know the biggest advantage is that you can forget about the science, the math and the camera,” shared Brown. “You can forget about all the controls. You can really focus on the creative process and focus on what you are photographing, you know, the experience you are having while you are photographing.”
Another added advantage that mobile camera technology brings is accessibility. It allows a much larger segment of people to start experimenting with photography as a hobby, because the barrier to entry is significantly lowered.
There is no need for amateurs to spend thousands of dollars on camera equipment, as phones now have the ability to take remarkable photographs.
Now, a phone like the TECNO CAMON 12 equips aspiring photographers with a 16+2+8 MP AI Max Triple Rear Camera and four outstanding shooting performances. The 16 MP primary camera is bolstered by AI scene recognition and HDR. It’s supported by a 2 MP secondary camera with an AI Bokeh effect, and an 8 MP secondary camera that allows for 120-degree wide-angle photography and 2 cm macro photography. This technology allows budding photographers to focus on expressing their creativity and imagination. All they have to do is take their phone out of their pocket to capture what’s in front of them.

While Tecno make phone for average Nigerian.
It will be good if Samsung expand in Nigeria.
investigator007: MEA smartphone market grew just 2% YoY in Q3 2019. 2 out of the top 3 markets, Nigeria and South Africa, are facing economic challenges. Transsion Group’s feature phone market share reached the highest ever (77%), Samsung led the overall smartphone market (29%) The smartphone market in Middle East and Africa (MEA) grew a modest 2% year-on-year (YoY) in Q3 2019, while the feature phone segment remained flat, according to Counterpoint Research’s latest Market Pulse report. Overall handset market grew 1% YoY. One of the main reasons for modest growth in the region is slowing in key countries. Markets like Nigeria, Egypt and South Africa that contribute to one-fourth of the overall regional sales are recovering from economic and regulatory challenges.
Commenting on the smartphone market growth, Tarun Pathak, Associate Director at Counterpoint Research, said, “The Middle East and Africa markets are at different stages of development and face a variety of economic, political and regulatory challenges. The region is largely under-penetrated (~40%) even though it is the third-largest region in terms of absolute internet users (>500 Mn). Hence, the next level of growth in the region will be driven by first-time internet users. While the Middle East is traditionally a strong and developed region, there are countries in Africa (Namibia, Tanzania, etc) where customers are paying among the highest rates in the world to access the internet. To bridge this gap a collective effort from telecom operators, government and handset players is required.”
Commenting on the OEM landscape, Varun Mishra, Research Analyst at Counterpoint Research said, “Transsion Group’s brands’ (iTel and Tecno) feature phone share reached its highest ever in MEA during the quarter. Feature phones remain relevant to the mass market in Africa. Entry-level smartphones are unable to provide a good experience due to the limitations of the device specifications, especially in the <$40 segment. Additionally, the high data and device cost along with other challenges, like digital illiteracy, is holding back users from migrating faster to smartphones. In terms of smartphones, brands like Samsung and Tecno are looking to expand their operations in the region through relevant partnerships. For Example, Tecno opened its first-ever flagship store in Nigeria recently. Among other key Chinese players, Huawei is the only brand having a strong presence in the region while vivo, OPPO, and Xiaomi are still looking to enter or build scale in African countries. The USA trade ban did not lead to steep declines for Huawei in MEA as its older Y-generation models were still selling well.”
In terms of smart feature phones, KaiOS continues to expand in the Africa market as it launched devices with Tecno and Vodacom. It has already launched devices with MTN and Orange. Compared to Q3 2018, shipments for KaiOS have grown over 600% in Africa (from a small base). The devices can be pivotal in capturing first-time internet users. The market holds promising potential for smart feature phone segment. However, keeping the prices of these devices as close to the traditional feature phone as possible remains key to the success of smart feature phones in the region.
Market Summary:
The top five smartphone brands captured 58% of the market. Feature phones contributed to 37% of the total handset sales during the quarter. iTel and Tecno’s combined feature phone market share reached highest ever as long-tail brands in feature phone segment started exiting the African market. Samsung led the smartphone market by volume, capturing 29% of the total smartphone market in Q3 2019. Galaxy A series contributed to a record 4/5th of Samsung’s sales with A10 and A20 Core being the best-selling models. Tecno overtook Huawei to take the second position in the market. Spark 3 and Pop 2 Power were the bestselling models. Huawei sales were driven by the Y series. Y series contribution to Huawei total smartphone sales reached a record 70% from 47% during the same quarter last year iTel remained strong in the sub $50 segment while Infinix was one of the fastest-growing brands YoY (34%) to capture 4% of the market. remained strong in Nigeria. Sub-US$100 segment captured 55% of the total smartphone market. Premium segment (US$400 and above) captured only 6% of the volume in the MEA region and principally from the developed markets such as UAE and Saudi Arabia. The more advanced Middle East smartphone market remained flat. During the third quarter, some countries in the Middle East launched 5G for the first time in markets like Kuwait, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. 5G is likely to see fairly rapid growth in the developed Middle East markets as early as 2020 while for Africa markets it is still several years away. Scroll through to find out what these companies initially traded in before gaining fame.
The iconic jewelry brand began as a “stationery and fancy goods” store in New York City, New York, U.S., in 1837. A 25-year-old Charles Lewis Tiffany and John B. Young opened it after receiving a $1,000 advance from the former’s father. Soon establishing themselves as the go-to emporium for their simplistic design aesthetic, their name was etched as an iconic jeweler in 1878 when they acquired one of the largest yellow diamonds – named the Tiffany Diamond – from the Kimberley mines in South Africa.

Smartphones are necessities today as we cannot do without them. With advancement in technology yearly, smartphone companies Samsung, Transsion Holding, etc release newer versions and people change phones for different reasons. But what really is a smartphone shelf life and how long does the average smartphone lasts before it starts showing signs of deterioration?
Understanding Smartphone Shelf Life Shelf life is an English word on its own and before we understand how it relates to smartphones, we have to know what shelf life itself means.
What is shelf life? According to Wikipedia, shelf life is the length of time that a commodity may be stored without becoming unfit for use, consumption, or sale. Oxford dictionary defines it as the length of time for which an item remains useable, fit for consumption, or saleable.
Now that we understand what a shelf life is, it can now be related to smartphones. A smartphone shelf life simply means the duration of time which a smartphone is fit to be used without any problems. Averagely, the lifespan of a smartphone is 3-4 years and many factors contribute to this. This will be explained below.
Signs Your Phone is Reaching the End of its Lifespan When your smartphone becomes no longer enjoyable or starts giving you issues, it might be time to get a new one.
Operating System Issues A phone cannot function without its operating system. There are two popular smartphone OS – Android and iOS. Whenever a smartphone is released it comes shipped out of the box with a version of an operating system. For example, the Samsung Galaxy S8+ ran Android 7.0 Nougat at launch. Samsung makes sure its smartphones get the latest version whenever a new version is available but sooner or later, they drop support for old smartphones like other manufacturing companies do.
The reason is newer version of operating systems becomes advanced and comes with features which are power-driven and sometimes become too heavy for the hardware on older smartphones.
Also, almost everyday smartphone applications get updated and newer functionalities are added. All these accumulated affects the smartphone in the long run. Applications crashes, the smartphone becomes slow, lags and it gets frustrating to use. Whenever this starts happening, your phone is nearing the end of its lifespan.
Battery Health Smartphones are powered by batteries. Even though some batteries can be replaced, whenever a smartphone’s battery is no longer dependable or has to be charged several times a day it’s a sign the phone is reaching the end of its lifespan, this normally happens between two to three years.
Wear and Tear You might be surprised, but the law of ageing applies to smartphones too. Over a long period of time, you may have used your smartphone ruggedly such that some parts have been scratched or broken. This may in turn start affecting hardware materials.
Conclusion Smartphone manufacturers are constantly competing with one another. A smartphone you get today becomes obsolete when the same company releases another from the same series with better specifications tomorrow. The average smartphone shelf life is 3 years after which it starts deteriorating.
Majorly focusing on their performance in terms of speed (speed test) and camera, pitting their pictures side by side. This purpose of this video is to help you decide which to buy between them or if you should buy them at all. They both use a quad-core Helio A22 processor clocked at 2.0GHZ paired with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage.Where they differ is in their battery life and capacity with the Hot 8 packing a bigger 5000mAh battery over the 4000mAh battery on the Spark 4. Be sure to get to the end of this video for my conclusion.
