Religion / Re: Lent: Countdown To 40 Days Fasting. by Dextra(f): 1:50pm On Feb 19, 2013 |
Yes, fasting is a secret thing. I agree with everyone who said so. You must know that the whole world knows that we are in lent season and everyone is expected to fast, so it's not so secret is it? Secondly, I've never told anyone who I meet that I am fasting; but when someone offers me a meal or when we are having lunch break and a colleague notices that I am not eating as I often do, He/She may Ask "What's up Dex, you aint eating or are you fasting?" Am I suppose to lie and say "No"? Of course not. So fasting is an "open secret". So it's all about your heart and your purpose of fasting. I like my spirit to have control over my body and that has been how I live my life. This helps me stay on top of situation and live a pure life. It's not just about giving up food or what you like, but what do you want to achieve at the end of this fasting and praying season? I'll suggest that your major aim should be to have a closer walk with God, a relationship at a different level, where you can be at peace with yourself and not worry about sin. 1 Like |

DAY 6 (FEBRUARY 18, 2013) FASTING MODE STILL ACTIVATED. However, it's interesting to know that at the end of the fast period I am not even hungry. Also, today I had to work 20 hours but I was still as strong as I was when I left my home in the morning! I feel so so happy (though I can't remember anything making me happy) but it's from within my spirit. I will like to hear your day to day achievements. Let's do it!!! |

holyvirgin: @op, its good you chose to go on food fasting,I remember when I was younger, my sister used to be a fashion freak and can't go without makeups, so when lent came she chose to focus on God and halt at makeups. You are right my friend. Fasting means depriving your body of needs and building up your inner man which is the Spirit. I really don't live in so much luxury and I rarely care for the things in life. I choose to Live for today only. All is Vanity. |

binger: Thank u my sister, this is enlightening.I am not a Spiritual Scholar, but from the much I know. You can be said to treat sin with levity if you intentionally do things that you know are wrong, saying "afterall, I'll ask for forgiveness and God will forgive me" The issue is not whether you will be forgiven or not but How does those evil acts affect your life and future. Just focus on doing good which is best shown through Love. For instance, someone may be having premarital sex and always pray for forgiveness and yet continues to do it. Question is: how does that act affect you life? When you have sex you will be living in fear of disease and getting pregnant, but what of the relief you have when you are not doing it? No fear, no guilt, good quality of life! |

binger: Amen! Not true. Remember, Sin shall have no dominion over you. It is possible to live a guilt-free life. Stop being conscious of sin, just live in love, see others from the eyes of God and do everything in love. Simple. Love is everything. Try walking in Love and you will not have problem with sin. |

ooman: You guys are just suffering yourself.Did you say "There is no god to answer?" Well, my dear..."The fool has said in his heart there is no God". I have felt the very existence of God in my life, even as a child I had experiences too. If you seek Him you will definitely find Him. Let me share one experience with you. I went through financial constraint while in post secondary school. I resumed school after paying my school fees with the money I had been saving since I graduated from high school. I resumed with a bag, a bucket and just #60 Naira. Several weeks after that, I didn't have kerosene in my stove to cook and I couldn't go on begging from neighbors. I had always had Faith in God's ability so I was forced to put it to work. For complete 10 days I cooked on a stove without kerosene. i just refuse to open it or acknowledge that it was dry, I just lit it and cook the little I had. Until, my brother sent me some money, I went to the market and bought kerosene. I lit the stove and it died within few seconds. My dear, I don't believe in God based on what I was told or what I have heard but What I know. Though I'm not a Catholic, I remember as a child the encounter I had with the Rosary and I may tell you if you want to hear it. Just ask God to reveal Himself to You, He will. Seek Him and you shall find Him. 15 Likes |

alexleo:Sorry, I am not Catholic. I don't claim any denomination neither do I abhor any. I believe in God, in Jesus His dear son and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit! I indulge in this fast season to "Sharpen" my Spirit so that my physical being does not take preeminence. Savy? 8 Likes |

DAY 2 (February 14): Second day of lent. Fasting mode still activated. My colleague at work brought very nice valentine cake Was a tough one for me not to dig in. I spent all day (Valentine) at work. Thank God it was terrible busy, though I prayed for it. Spent some part of the day sending job application for somebody beside myself! I felt it's an act of love! I hope he gets the job, I'll be glad. 1 Like |

Religion / Lent: Countdown To 40 Days Fasting. by Dextra(f): 10:54pm On Feb 13, 2013 |
Today, Wednesday marked the beginning of the fasting period. This is a thread for all participants to share their experiences, temptations, prayer pattern and everything related to Lent. As for me, I prepared for this period by eating a very healthy and highly nutritious meal yesterday. However, last night at 2am I had serious symptoms of Malaria so I started my first dose of Lonart DS, took second dose at 9am with food. So, my fasting period was between 9am to 6 pm with prayers at intervals. Let's hear yours. We'll come by each day to share our experiences and encourage each other. Thank you! 2 Likes |
