Commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as Okada operators have been given quit notice in Onitsha and Awka, the capital city of Anambra State.

The quit notice takes effect frrom July 1, 2018.

According to a press release by James Eze, Chief Press Secretary to Obiano, the operators have been given until then to change to another trade or vacate the two cities for good.

This he said was one of the many resolutions from the meeting of the Anambra State Executive Council today, Tuesday, May 22, 2018.

The ultimatum given to Okada operators in the two cities was part of the overall strategy adopted by the state government to deepen its crackdown on crime and restore sanity to Onitsha and Awka.

Similarly, residents of some make-shift structures on the banks of the River Niger stretching from Onitsha to Ogbaru have also been given until August 1, 2018 to relocate from those places along the waterfront as they have been marked for demolition. This is also a part of the campaign against the men of the underworld in the state.

The deadlines given to Okada operators and the shanty-dwellers are intended to offer them enough time to make the necessary adjustments in order to fit into the emerging socio-cultural scenario in the state.

Eze said, “Other far ranging resolutions of the Council include the establishment of a Committee on Environment with a mandate to clean up Anambra State, clearing out garbage dumps and overflowing drainages and demolishing illegal structures that are either obstructing the way or ruining the aesthetics of the Anambra environment.

“The committee is expected to sustain the on-going campaign to put an end to roadside trading that often leads to avoidable traffic congestion and return sanity to the roads and highways of Anambra State.

“Reinforcing the hard line posture of his administration against street-trading and erection of illegal structures across the state, Governor Willie Obiano specifically commended the agencies behind the on-going demolition exercise in the state, urging them to sustain the momentum until the state begins to wear a better look. He also sent a note of warning to owners of illegal structures along the famous Awka Road in Onitsha, saying that very soon the demolition team would sweep through the area.

“He frowned at the current practice by Awka residents who sometimes dump their waste bins right in the middle of Zik Avenue and warned that anyone caught doing that would pay a heavy penalty.

“The governor further announced that important public places like the Prof Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Alex Ekwueme Square and the vast premises of the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) would soon be given a facelift and properly remodelled to fit into the dynamics of the day.”

According to him, the Amphitheatre of the Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre would be redesigned to serve as a stadium and completed as soon as possible.

The governor also frowned at the spate of daring encroachment on government land in the state by speculators and warned that there would be severe consequences for anyone who wanted to flagrantly break the law. (DP)

A 13-year-old Alabama boy who miraculously recovered after doctors declared him brain-dead and were set to harvest his organs to donate to five other children, said he was in Heaven walking with Jesus and a sibling who died before he was born.

"I saw a dark male figure with a beard," the teenager, Trenton McKinley, told CBN Wednesday. "He held my hand as I walked through a field. I was holding a baby in my arm. My mom told me she lost a boy from a miscarriage before I was born. I know it was my brother."

McKinley's mother, Jennifer Reindl, who has been singing praises to God and sharing her story since her son's miraculous turnaround, said she continues sharing her story because she wants to change lives.

"I hope our story changes lives and am thankful for all the prayers and kind words. I am forever thankful to the Lord and out of gratitude will speak in the Lord's favor and as a witness to his miracle ... my hopes are that our story brings hope to any mother out there facing such odds ... from one mother to another mother I send love and prayer. Happy Mother's Day and God bless you all," Reindl wrote in a statement on Facebook Wednesday.

Two months ago, according Fox 10, McKinley was riding in a small utility trailer being pulled by a dune buggy for children when his friend pressed on the brakes suddenly, causing the trailer to flip. The teenager got caught in the trailer as it flipped after he threw his friend's 4-year-old niece into the grass to save her.

"I hit the concrete and the trailer landed on top of my head. After that, I don't remember anything," McKinley told Fox10.

Reindl told the network her son had seven skull fractures and died for about 15 minutes. Doctors did not expect a recovery to celebrate.

"All I saw was a stretcher with his feet hanging out. He was dead a total of 15 minutes," Reindl said while fighting back tears. "When he came back, they said he would never be normal again. They told me the oxidation (oxygen deprivation) problems would be so bad to his brain, that he would be a vegetable if he even made it."

Her son was on life support and barely breathing for several days so she decided with his father to sign documents allowing the donation of his organs to five waiting children.

"His eyes were solid black and dry and I knew he would not hesitate to save five more lives," Reindl told CBN.

The day before doctors planned to shut off his life support, McKinley started recovering.

"The next day I got a call ... they canceled the final brain wave test ... right before they hooked him up his hand moved, then his feet ... so they looked at his eyes and they were back ... he had blue eyes ... now they are green with small white specks like glitter ... they say when you look upon God ... pigment changes ... and my baby was in Heaven for a whole day ... he is a miracle," Reindl said.

The rate of racism in France is alarming

French authorities have opened an inquiry into the death of a young woman just hours after her distress call to emergency services was mocked by the operator, prompting a public outcry.

Naomi Musenga, 22, who is probably from Congo dialled France’s emergency dispatch number on December 29 last year complaining of strong stomach pains.


In a recording of the three-minute call obtained only recently by her family, Musenga’s voice can barely be heard as says “It hurts all over” and “I’m going to die…”


“You’re going to die, certainly, one day just like everyone else,” the female operator responds. She is also heard mocking Musenga’s complaints with a colleague, before telling the victim to call a doctor for a house visit.



Five hours later Musenga again calls the emergency services, which finally dispatch the ambulance that brings her to a hospital in Strasbourg, eastern France. But she died shortly after arriving from a heart attack.

According to French daily Le Monde, an autopsy revealed that Musenga had suffered multiple organ failure.

French Health Minister Agnes Buyzn posted on Twitter she was “deeply outraged” and had ordered an inquiry into the “serious failures” by the emergency services.


The circumstances surrounding Musenga’s death have reignited calls for increased funding and resources for France’s health system.


“In 1988, eight million people went to hospital emergency rooms each year. Today’s it’s 21 million,” Patrick Pelloux, head of the French association of emergency doctors (AMUF) told French daily Le Parisien.

“At the same time, calls to emergency services have tripled,” which have effectively reduced them to “call centres”, Pelloux said.

The government is already grappling with huge strains on the health system, with hospital doctors denouncing for weeks a shortage of beds that means many patients are forced to sleep on gurneys in hallways.

Nurses and other workers have also been protesting in recent weeks against overcrowding and staff shortages.

A huge sum of money was discovered in the apartment of a Nigerian student by the Metropolitan police. According to reports the bailiff accompanied by the police stormed the apartment of the Nigerian to serve him paper only to discover a huge cache of $8.5million.

Europe based Igbo man has alleged that their maid was refused admission into Festac secondary school on the ground that they only admit indigenes of Lagos State.

Mr Arinze who resides in Madrid, Spain asked his wife to take their maid to the nearby secondary school in Festac so that she could get some glimpses of education. Getting to the school, he alleges that the school management told his wife that they only  admit indigenes of Lagos state.

You would recall that February this year the Governor of Lagos state, His Excellency  Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode formally signed a bill into law “to provide for the preservation and promotion of the use of Yoruba Language and for connected purposes,” thereby making it the first state to enact law seeking to preserve and promote its indigenous language.

The yoruba language preservation law made it compulsory for all primary and secondary schools – private or public – in the state to include teaching of Yoruba Language as a core subject at all levels. According to the government, violation of the law will attract a fine of N500,000 or complete closure of the school.

More also, candidates seeking admission into all tertiary institutions in Lagos state must henceforth possess credit in Yoruba Language.

However, whether the new law which  was trailed with mixed reactions has snowballed into discrimination of students in regard to admission or the management of the government owned schools are using it to deprive indigenes of other states is yet unknown.

FARMER KILLS WIFE FOR FAILING TO COOK HIS FAVOURITE MEAL, COMMITS SUICIDE

A 35-year-old farmer, Emmanuel Awugye, has reportedly committed suicide by hanging after allegedly killing his 32-year-old wife, Ama Baduwaa.

The incident took place at Awugyekrom near Adansi Fumso in the Ashanti region of Ghana on Monday morning.


Emmanuel’s uncle, Ibrahim Abu, who disclosed the incident to Adomonline, said the body of Emmanuel Awugye was found hanging on a tree in a different location.

According to Mr. Abu, Emmanuel inflicted wounds on his wife for failing to prepare his favourite meal, fufu.

Reports say the man was infuriated when he arrived home to find his wife sleeping instead of preparing the meal.


The issue, which did not go down well with the man, caused him to subject his wife to severe beating, inflicting cutlass wounds on her till she fell down dead.

Sources say the man also accused his wife of infidelity.

The Adansi Fomena District Police commander, Yaw Asubonteg, confirming the matter said the bodies of the couple have been deposited at the New Edubuasi Government Hospital.


He said that police have since commenced investigations into the incident.

The couple left behind four children.
