Too lazy to go into detail but once read a medical article which explained death process and offered it as an explanation for NDE. Basically in a hospital you are pronounced death when your heart stops beating but just because the heart stopped does not mean the brain has and it is the brain that controls the body. The heart pumps oxygen to the brain, oxygen helps the brain function. Some people have been known to give birth after death or found in the fridge in positions that looked like they were eating themselves (it is assumed they were hungry) or were trying to get out.
