Been on nairaland for years but this will be my first post and I must say its worth it because its one of the most intellectual posts I have seen here. let me first start by saying I am a practising structural engr(two years) in Europe (B.Sc Civil engineering & Msc Structural engineering). What the OP displayed was his idea on optimisation which is definitely lacking in the Nigerian sector. someone was clamouring for 1:2:4 instead of 1:3:6 for a building with such little load and a good soil at that. Thats what a white man will call wastage. In my own opinion, while people have been putting up 'what to do', OP has shown his 'why','how' and 'what' skills. My 2 cents

I have been following this nairalander for some time now due to his great contributions in the property section. Honestly the guy is good at what he does... building construction and I am considering him for a job, but each time I read his comments in Religion and Politics sections, I would almost want to unfollow him and discontinue all communication and planning with him. I don't visit Religion and Politics sections in NL but because I am following the guy, I get to see all his posts. Is there a way that I can only follow his posts on property section.

I'm astonished as to how Sahara Reporters, a well known APC apologist news outlet managed to have these presidential election results well in advance before even the INEC itself, the only body recognised by law to publish the authentic result?

To make matters worst Sahara's result is just an identical copy of what Jega's INEC has been announcing to the whole world.

The timing even surprises me the more because I visited Sahara's website yesterday morning and printed the result they posted and believe you me, I could hardly tell a difference between what's up there and what Jega has been spewing out since yesterday.

The mind boggles.

Don't forget that these results have been announced by the REC of each state at their state headquarters.

Hello guys i need advise.
I'm about to buy a land that is partly waterlogged, my issue here is not the foundation but the soakaway and borehole.

I heard that it's not possible to build a soakaway in that kind of environment, that only a septic tank can be built.
Also the water from the borehole in that area might be difficult to treat.

Please house, highlight the disadvantages of building in a waterlogged land in the long run.

Why not create a new thread on this in the properties section.

it is a template for the calculation of materials required in the production of concrete using mix ratio of 1:2:4. you can always use it for other operation like column, beam, slab etc by changing parameters like the length, width and thickness

thickness of concrete =150mm (6'')
Volume of concrete = ( 154 x 0.15 x 1.25) = 30m3 (approx.)

number of bags of cement = (30 x 1/7 x 1506/50) = 130 bags of cement
140bags of cement for the DPC.

in the actual casting, 136bags of cement was used

I traveled home for two weeks, when i returned back to port Harcourt, the first floor block work had already been completed by my colleague (Arc. Emanuel).

No of planks for the floor beams
beam along x-axis = 14 x 4 =56m2
beam along y- axis = 13x4 52m2
since the beam will required boarding from both side = (( 56 + 52) x 2 x 0.3))/(0.3 x 3.3) = 65 planks

Hello Abdulwastecx, I found out that some people don't add floor beam in their slab.
They would rather do lintels through the entire perimeter of the house. How safe is it?

for the bricklayers fee it is 2160 blocks x 50 naira/block = 108,000 naira.
it all depends on your bargaining power it can be 45-50 naira per block.

Engr Segzy14, does this rate also apply to the normal laying of blocks in a house.
