The problem with malina is poor tensile stress perpendicular to its axis. It break easily when you load it or when the carpenters are still work on it. It is risky to work with and not that durable over a long period of time.

The best roofing truss wood is apuntu (igbo name) or ayin (yoruba) or iron wood in pidgin.

All type of wood defend to be treated to guide against future deterioration in future

Yes, there is a way... All you need to know is the density of the sand that you are using, the physical dimensions of the bucket or head pan used for the mix.

By following this simple procedure.
Get the diameter of the head pan or bucket
Get the height of headpan or bucket
Calculate the volume using nhd2/4
From the density, p=m/v... Get the m(mass)
Finally divide the mass in kg by 1000 to get the tonnage

Advantage
1.lower cost of platform, since it will placed on a decked part of the house which will not require the normal steel platform

2.lower cost of piping water from the tank to various part of the house

Disadvantages
1. Limited head (pressure) especially for higher building, the building at the top floor may lack the necessary height to provide pressure.

2 structural failure of building when not properly done. Since water in the tank will add considerable amount of load to the structural members that support it (slab, beams, columns and footing). If these members are not adequately design to carried the load, there may be excessive settlement or total collapsed of that part which may also affect other part of the building.

3. It impaired esthetics: having a big tank on top of the house may not really be good to the beauty of the house. This tanks may also lick to the floor there by causing paint to fall off etc.

4. It also limit the capacity of such tanks since the capacity will depend on the structural integrity of supporting structural members

*Space saving as ground space is not used
*Pressure, as its height ensures that every part of the house gets good pressured water at their tap
*Cheaper to install, than the other stand-alone type

Disadvantages
*Accessibility could be a problem
*If there is a leak, it could trickle down the walls or even into the rooms/compartments. If the Tank should burst, na big "kasali" be that!
*Piping is likely to be conduit/embedded and as such, difficult to repair, incase of a leak/fault/breakage
*May affect the aesthetics of the roof/building

Hajji Sir, If 1 bag equals 70 6" blocks for laying, then like what quantity of sand will be needed. Or is there a way to calculate both cement and sand needed for laying.

Also, all the methods of calculating blocks I found on this forum, no mention is made of allowance for mortar. Is it that it is not used in calculating? Thanks a lot.

POP ceiling
Wall screeding
Tilers
Bricklayers for fence walls
Plumber for outside pipe laying
Welders for gates, burglary proof and tank stand
Laborers for clearing the new lands


Work goes on.

Everybody got the mail. I got the mail too, even though I did my BVN in January, and it is prominently displayed on my Internet banking platform.
I did a transaction just now, and it went thru without any wahala.
If you did the BVN, I think it's ok. The mail went out in error. I'm sure they will rectify it.
On a more serious note, this type of mistake shouldn't happen with a bank the size and precision of GTB. If anyone gets myocardial infarction because of this message, it's on their head....it's just plain irresponsible...

Granite price is never stable, it fluctuates according to market forces so also is transport. I notice most builders don't know there are different prices for stones, the cheapest been stone dust. Suppliers rip them off by giving them uniform prices for all stones.
The first method to beat your supplier to his game is to know the stone size you want. Don't just ask a broad base price.

Stone dust presently is 500 per ton
3/4 is 1500
5/8 is 1600
Half inch is 2200

Transport depends on tonnage and location. 10tons to lekki is 35,000, 20tons to lekki is 55,000 and 30tons to lekki is 60,000. This excludes toll charges ooo. Toll charge from ogun state to lekki for 30tons is 5000 while for 10 tons is 3500.

This also excludes omonile settlement and area boys, in some locations they collect as high as 5k or 10k per trip and some just 1 or 2k. This price never get company margin inside oooo.

This breakdown is what I give a potential client or builder and the smart ones see beyond the figures and go for it.

The breakdown I gave above should give you a rough estimate of what your order will be BUT it depends on current market price and condition.

I repeat again for emphasis NO truck presently used by haulage companies can carry 30tons complete as we all fear for our tires and suspension due to bad nature of road, traffic and weather condition. The only location we do make such trip( 30tons) is Agbara for those that re-sell and they pay HUGE and movement is timed. A honest supplier will be open to you about this

We have many people advertising for services and their goods here but we don't actually know who is good.. until another Nairalander who have used them can vouch for them. Unless they want to remain anonymous which of course is not good for their business.
