airmark: Garnacho didn't newly join Man utd unlike Neto who hasn't finished his first season. Napoli's president asked if Garnacho would give him 20+ goals, and even his father couldn't reply.
Instead of getting a prolific striker that can give us 20+ goals, we are all over the Argentine Pius Ikedia. It's Nateevs and his friends deciding our transfers at Stamford bridge this window. I really hope this isn't the start of a bunch of excuses for Ben Johnson, bros. Unlike Jackson, who at least shows some other qualities despite lacking composure in front of goal and that killer instinct, I’m still trying to figure out what Neto and Scamcho actually bring to the table. Maybe we should’ve taken a page from Napoli’s President playbook and checked if those guys could deliver 20+ goals before making any commitments. Aside from Neto's pointless running around the pitch like a headless chicken and overhitting balls without any real direction/purpose, I just haven't seen any useful attributes that he adds to the squad. |

nateevs: In an unprecedented, and unexpected rate of performance, he took us to 2nd on the table at some point. Not a single Chelsea fan said before hand that Maresca was even remotely capable of doing this. The reason y'all are angry now is because you have seen what he can do, and now you expect more. That means he restored confidence and expectation. And this is one of the many things he's done to deserve being left alone.
Re:GK, the tactical advantage is with the way he plays out of the back. Maresca expects his GK to become a fourth man in defence, for increased passing lanes and choices. The resultant effect, is allowing two midfielders to take up far advanced positions in 8s, the two wingers pining opposition FBs, tactically shaping up to be in isolated inverted positions, no 9 coming deep into midfield to aid a channel of receiving passes from same GK and/or CB, and finally, allowing one of our full backs to invert into midfield, in a bid to overloading the midfield with 5 players.
It all starts from the GK being a ball-playing one. I appreciate that not everyone sees this tactical nuance but it's there. And that's why he does what he does. It's just unfortunate that Chronic Gambler is the best of all the ball-playing GKs we have.
The point is that it's not a thoughtless move by Maresca. Please remember this quote: I get am before, no be property!Although, I see where you're coming from, but I have to disagree with your take here. Sure, Maresca took Chelsea to second in the table, which is impressive, but we can't ignore the fact that the team's performance has been shaky lately. He may have restored some confidence, but at a club like Chelsea, expectations are naturally high. When it comes to the goalkeeper situation, I understand the desire for a ball-playing keeper, but that shouldn't come at the cost of basic reliability. Sanchez has been consistently error-prone, and that raises a serious question: how can we trust him to fulfill such a crucial role? Maresca might have a vision for how he wants to play, but a keeper who constantly spreads panic and makes schoolboy errors—leading to dropped points—is a major liability. I've seen us comfortably lead games, only for The Chronic Gambler to gift the other team a goal out of nowhere, and this has happened way too often. He doesn't need more confidence; he needs to be benched. Also, if a ball-playing ability is all that is required for that number one spot, why did we let Kepa go? He’s a more reliable option in that role compared to The Chronic Gambler, who seems to be more of a liability than a solid choice. So while I appreciate the tactical nuances you're highlighting, it's tough to justify sticking with a keeper who is more of a liability instead of an asset. Maresca really needs to strike a balance between his tactical preferences and the essential need for a reliable goalkeeper. |

nateevs: Sir, hands off Mr Maresca please. I think you all have forgotten he doesn't make general policy regarding who gets sold, bought and who gets brought back from loan.
He assesses everyone present, and decides who's good for the system, then makes decisions. He chooses Sanchez for a tactical reason, and I understand it. So he's only trying to give the dude confidence and promote team spirit. What do you mean by "hands off Maresca"? What has he done so far to earn that kind of privilege? Anyway, since you seem to be speaking for Maresca, can you explain why he keeps sticking with The Chronic Gambler? What tactical advantage does Sanchez bring that makes him a must-start every match? |

swiz123: How is Fofana a dreadful defender? What are his weaknesses? I'm not sure if you kept up with him during his time at Leicester, but that guy definitely has some issues with concentration and awareness. Honestly, the only thing Fofana really has going for him is his pace, but what's the point of that if he's a permanent patient aka Dr Fofana? |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by diggz: 5:45pm On Jan 21, 2025 |
swiz123: Yes, Chalobah is only good as a squad player, same as Colwill. If Fofana can sort out his injury problems, I don't mind pairing him with Inter's Bastoni. Statistically, we conceded less when Fofana was fit and I consider him a good defender. With him and Bastoni, we can comfortably play out from the back and also be physically dominant.
I don't trust James and his oversized body so we should be looking at getting another RB.
Booting Enzo out of that midfield should be considered top priority. Having him and Palmer in a midfield of 3 is premium disaster. Offering Tonali increased wages would motivate him to jump ship.
I wonder what we were doing when PSG took Kvara; oh! We were busy chasing that low IQ scummy winger Garnacho. We can pull off a coup and snatch Rodrygo from Real Madrid as I can sense he isn't happy with his position at Real Madrid.
This season should be the final season Jackson starts a game for us in any important match. If we can't get Isak, we can go for Gyokores or if the financial burden becomes too much, we can settle for Jonathan David.
Sanchez should be deported back to the slums of Guyana while we get Milan's Maignan. At least, he is decent at passing and very solid in shot stopping. You don spoil this post kpatapata with Fofana talk. Dr Fofana is a dreadful defender. Abeg call another defender.Meanwhile, I agree with the rest of your post. |

swiz123: Yes, he is better than most of our defenders but he is not quite what we need to challenge on full throttle. Knowing this stupid club, they might decide not to buy any CB cos of a few positive results and we will be back to square one next season.
Sending him out on loan to balance books isn't where the problem is, the problem is buying Tosin and Viega while leaving Disaster there. If we had bought a very good CB, we wouldn't be recalling him. I understand your perspective. To be honest, I see him more as a squad player that we can always rely on. We can both agree that having reliable squad players is crucial, especially when it comes to depth in the team. Also, addressing the need for better CBs and a goalkeeper is definitely important for strengthening the overall performance of the team. Do you have any specific players in mind that you think would be a good fit? |

We need to be smarter than this, God!!!. Must we suffer mediocrity every season Nawao. Chalobah is miles ahead of all the criminals we currently parade in that CB position. From Tosin, Dasasi, colwill, badshile to Dr Fofana. He is our best CB currently! He was our best CB before the oloriburukus sent him away to Palace. Plus he is happy to be a squad player for when the club gets your preferred elite CBs. |
