FG DELIVERS 110 TRUCKS OF PALLIATIVES RICE, GRAINS TO KANO STATE

The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, has dispatched 110 trucks of palliatives foodstuff from the Federal Government to the Kano State Government for distribution to the needy, vulnerable and people of concern in the state.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, said that the Ministry delivered ten trailer-loads of parboiled rice to the state government about two weeks ago, and in addition to that directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to deliver 100 trucks of grains to five locations in Kano State for distribution to poor and vulnerable households on the instruction of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The grains in 100 trailers now on their way to Kano, comprise millet, sorghum and maize, which were released from silos holding the country's strategic food reserve located across the country.

It could be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to release 70,000 metric tons of food for distribution to less-privileged Nigerians to cushion the effect of the lockdown aimed at checking the spread of the killer-disease triggered by COVID-19 in Nigeria.

The Minister emphasised that “One of the humanitarian interventions provided by the Federal Government is the delivery of food items as palliatives to the poor and vulnerable in all states affected by the Covid-19 pandemic to ease the lockdown situation”.

Sadiya Farouq assured the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency, Engineer Mustapha Maihaja that: "The Ministry will continue to work closely with all the agencies under its purview, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in discharging its mandates, including providing effective coordination of humanitarian interventions both nationally and internationally for the benefit of the citizens of this country, especially during this Covid-19 Pandemic."

She highlighted the need for the Agency to work closely with the Ministry and its sister agencies in all the states in monitoring the effective distribution of the palliatives to ensure that the food items reach the intended beneficiaries, especially in states under lockdown.

In his remark, the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Engr. Mustapha Maihaja assured the Minster that the Agency will work closely with State Governments to ensure the effective monitoring and accountability in distributing the palliatives, and thanked the Minister for the visit and her support to NEMA in discharging its duties for the benefit of Nigerians.

Interesting, though I would disagree with thee small

1.Foreign policy: Obasanjo...okay, that's very true. (it should be noted that in the years after he left power in 1979 he built up a lot of contacts internationally in part thanks to his job in the 1980's in helping to end Arphateid)

2.Human rights : GEJ. : Although nicer than Buhari, GEJ too had his human rights issues. Army abuses in NE (which worsened the situaiton there), policemen invading the National Assembly, and the antics of a certain policeman by the name of Joseph.....

3.Millitary: Yakubu Gowon: Yes...but with a pinch of salt.(Some of the operational decisions, taken in the civil war eg the wasted time spent on capturing Onitsha).

4.Corruption: Buhari. Not exactly. No one has been jailed yet, and petty corruption is still an issue.

5.Economy: Obasanjo, IBB.: IBB had a good economy from 1986-88...when he did things right(including partially removing subsides on fuel). But then we went back to the old ways in 1988...

Plus in 1991-2 under IBB, due to rises in oil prices occasioned by the Gulf War 1, we had a small economic boom.

Obasanjo too had oil price rises from 2003 onward...PLUS....he did somethings right..and again with the aid of NOI negotiated debt relief.

BUT...our economy STILL remained dependent on oil which is why both men , all things considered, were bad leaders economically. As have been all Nigerian leaders.

6.One Nigeria: IBB...Not exactly. Between 1985-90 , Nigeria went through some bad religous crisis that nearly tore our country apart. 1993 too was a bad year. August in particular was very worrisome. (Yakubu Gowon deserves the accolade more, just saying).

7.Sports: Abacha: : I disagree. Yes, we won Nations Cup and Atlanta olympic gold medal....BUT....any victories we won in sport was as a result of the massive investment in youth sports from the 1970's ..especially in states like the old Bendel state . All our sporting achievements in the 1980's and 90'S came out of that. Abacha did not keep up the investment. That's why we find it difficult to win anything (except in football)

8.Education: Shagari: Really? Shagari executed no major reforms, and 6334 was an initiative of the Murtala/Obasanjo regime.

I am writing to ask if you can help me to persuade my husband to do less around the house. I am worried that he is going to make himself ill from exhaustion. Also, and it is hard for me to say this to him without being hurtful, I married him for his fun personality not his work ethic and I fear I am losing him to domestic drudgery. I want an equal partner, not a slave.

We have a toddler and a baby, born few months ago. During the pregnancy, I was quite tired and run down and my darling, supportive husband started to do more and more around the house and with our son (and despite a full-time, responsible job, he has always done more than his fair share of housework). I am now breastfeeding the baby, which is tough because he barely stops feeding and won't really nap anywhere except in my arms.

So this leaves my husband doing the shopping, tidying, washing and cooking. He gets up at 6am every morning to get our toddler ready for nursery, with a packed lunch, and he drops him off before he can get himself off to work. Meanwhile, I just sit around feeding the baby!

I feel permanently guilty and as if the only way I will get my husband to do less is if I do more. The thing is that I can walk away from mess and he can't.

I hugely appreciate him helping, but, beyond the basics, would rather see him sleeping or even cuddling me on the sofa rather than trying to be on top of everything. I love my husband – he is truly the sweetest, most loving, most wonderful lover and father, but I find myself resenting the fact that I barely see his fun side these days because he is so tired that he is essentially ill – and I can't help thinking it is at least partly self-inflicted

I feel that all Nigeria police should undergo psychological and psychiatric examination regularly. We can't afford to lose lives because of the careless mistake of an insane few in the force.
