I like this thread. I guess we need to speak to an insider at CNN as well as DSTV office in Lagos.
The major issue here is if the adverts are being co-ordinated by DSTV or if the adverts are directly programmed by CNN.

See this :The minimum requirement is pegged at around $300,000, according to a person familiar with the matter, while a 30-second spot airing in the debates is seen costing around $110,000. A 30-second ad in CNN's primetime programs has over the last few months cost between $7,000 and $12,000, according to SQAD MediaCosts

The question is: Would it be cool to spend so much in advertising directly on CNN considering the cost since many of the Nigerian brands have major operations in Africa. Would it be cost effective to get investors that way...I know CNN is seen in over 212 countries and territories.

N.B: Since CNN runs on satellite on the DSTV AFRICA CHANNEL 401(HD/SD). I have reason to believe CNN allows the cable TV( CNN) to run ads in between their programmes. They might also give them authorisation to collect fees for these adverts while they( DSTV) would remit an annual sum to CNN directly.

I know, CNN international gives room for local markets in terms of advertising , that is what i mean. You would not see 4 out of every 5 adverts when watching CNN international in United States. I use sling TV and i watch CNN international , apart from dangote which advertises regularly across platforms, i cannot remember them advertising 4 Nigerian adverts out of every five. Sometimes, cable providers like DSTV cut off during time off to include local contents in advertising. It is one of the ways they make revenue from syndicated broadcasting

I don't think that is true. It depends on the region or area you are watching from and the network. For instance, for smaller broadcasters that hook up to their signal(e.g DSTV), there is room for local growth through advertisement of local product. For instance, if you are watching CNN from Nigeria, you will not see a walmart advert because walmart is not in Nigeria. Likewise if you are watching CNN from America.

CNN is CNN anywhere in the world! BBC is BBC anywhere in the world. It is not like internet advert that you can do targeting. It is only DSTV that can do advert targeting based on countries not CNN.

Whenever I am in Nigeria watching CNN or BBC, I see South African company adverts, especially their car insurance, and other insurance ads, does it mean I am in South Africa

Also ring advert that is not sold in Nigeria and I see it when watching CNN from Nigeria, does it mean I live in the US or UK

Yes because I visited Nigeria in December for 1 month, watch CNN in my village. It is the same with the one I am watching in Germany.

The same dominated zenith, Dangote adverts and co. Even now I am watching CNN in Germany, following on Coronavirus trend.

For example, dangote is building one of the world's biggest refineries in Lagos, which partly is funded by foreign investment. This people have a good reason for doing what they do.

It is the region we are in. In London it wasn’t so. In Europe the CNN broadcast shows only European commercials, and so on. Nigerian companies have a lot of money and know serious minded business individuals watch CNN. It is only normal for them to advertize to the best potential customers.

CNN has different markets. The adverts you see are based on the region you are watching CNN from. If you are in South Africa, you will see mainly adverts of South African companies.
