More Boko Haram fighters have reportedly surrendered to troops of the Nigerian Army.

DailyTrust reports that military sources claim 190 insurgents and their wives surrendered in Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State on Saturday, August 14.

According to the security source, those who surrendered comprise top fighters, foot-soldiers, their wives and children. The surrendered terrorists also appealed to the Nigerians to forgive them and assured residents that they were voluntarily surrendered, saying peace is better than war.

This development comes days after some insurgents who surrendered begged Nigerians for forgiveness. Their plea had generated mixed reactions as some persons said they do not deserve mercy based on their past.

The Nigerian military claims over that a total of 1081 terrorists and their families have so far surrendered to the armed forces in the last two weeks.

An officer of the Nigerian High Commission/Consulate in Indonesia, South East Asia has been tortured, suffocated, dehumanised, beaten and humiliated by the Indonesian police.

9News Nigeria Asian correspondent learnt that the diplomat was arrested by the Indonesian police while he went out to shop in a supermarket. He was accosted by the policemen who demanded for his ID and passport.

The man who was known as Ibrahim declared that he was an officer of the Nigerian High Commission/ Consulate in Indonesia and did not have his passport on his body at the moment, but the Indonesian police rejected his explanation and forced him down in a vehicle and tortured him.

An argument ensued between Big Brother Naija Shine Ya Eye housemates, Angel and Boma, as their teams clashed during task preparation.

The clash heated up between the two teams in their Saturday task, which involved producing a creative piece for one of the show’s partners, Waw detergent.

In the heat of the clash, Boma shouted at Angel, ” Am I your mate? Are you mad? Is it because we are all in this house?”

Angel fired back, “I’m your mate as long as you’re in this house.”

“You’re not my mate at all. You can never be my mate. What’s wrong with this one?” Boma retorted.

Angel then told him to beat her if he is that angry at what she said.

Boma answered, “Why would I beat you? What’s wrong with this one? Are you the leader?”

It soon became a rowdy argument as housemates tried to calm Boma down while the rest of them raised their voices concerning the alleged partiality in the Waw task.

Angel explained to the rest of her teammates how angry she felt when Boma asked her if she was crazy. In anger, she said she is no longer interested in the task.

“Nobody should yell at me. In fact, I’m not doing it again. I’m not interested in it,”, Angel said.

Her team members calmed her down so that they could continue with the task.

The Waw task
Big Brother grouped the housemates into teams to carry out a task for one of its sponsors, Waw detergent.

Each group was asked to make a song or poem to publicise the detergent. However, after each team composed their rendition, Big Brother instructed the teams to switch their compositions with another team.

The exchange between Angel’s team and Boma’s team led to the clash as the latter claimed that Angel’s team refused to release their full work to them.

EFF Members march on the street of Phoenix KZN South Africa in protest of more than 30 black South African killed by Indians in Phoenix during last month’s civil unrest.

Police have arrested 22 people for 36 murders committed in Phoenix in north Durban during the week of violence and looting that swept KwaZulu-Natal and parts of Gauteng last month.

They have also seized 152 weapons from four security companies operating in the area and have sent them for forensic testing to establish whether they were used in any of the murders, the bulk of which were carried out by vigilantes manning roadblocks.

At a media briefing held in neighbouring Inanda on Tuesday, Police Minister Bheki Cele said the 22 suspects, 18 of them Indian, were appearing in court on charges of murder and 52 counts of attempted murder.

Cele said 33 of the 36 people killed were Africans from Amaoti, Bhambayi, Inanda and other areas around Phoenix who had been attacked by vigilantes manning roadblocks set up in response to the looting and arson attacks around the city.

Some 342 people were killed in the looting and arson in the two provinces, which the government has characterised as an attempted insurrection sparked by the jailing of former president Jacob Zuma on contempt of court charges for refusing to return to the Zondo commission probing state capture.

The attacks cost KwaZulu-Natal alone more than R2.1-billion in damage to infrastructure.

The provincial government has applied to the national disaster management centre to have a state of disaster declared and allow it to reprioritise budgets towards repairing state infrastructure.

Cele said a 31-member detective team had made the arrests in Phoenix and recovered 112 illegal firearms in raids in the area. The team would continue its work until those arrested were brought to trial, he added. The investigative team was also probing the role of gun shops in the area in providing weapons to vigilantes.

Cele said a peace committee had been set up including representatives from Bhambayi, Zwelisha, Amaoti, Inanda and Phoenix and had helped the police and the families of murder victims in identifying their remains, in addition to stabilising the area.

Cele said the public perception of the crimes that were committed in Phoenix had been worsened by misinformation, which had a “dire impact” on events that took place there. He said another of the “big fish” believed to have instigated the week of chaos had been arrested and was expected to appear in court soon.

Alleged billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudimeme ‘Evans’ Onwuamadike has denied being a kidnapper, claiming that he is an ornaments and Horlicks dealer.

Recall that Onwuamadike is standing trial alongside Uche Amadi, Ogechi Uchechukwu, Chilaka Ifeanyi, Okwuchukwu Nwachukwu and Victor Aduba over the alleged kidnap of Donatus Dunu, chief executive officer of Maydon Pharmaceutical Ltd and collection of £223,000 (N100 million) as ransom from his family.

All the defendants who were first arraigned on August 30, 2017, on two counts of conspiracy and kidnapping, have maintained their innocence.

After being led in by his defense counsel Victor Okpara on Tuesday August 3, Evans denied all allegations of kidnapping levelled against him by the Lagos State Government, insisting he was a legitimate businessman.

Claiming that he was coerced into admitting being a kidnapper after the police in a bid to make him confess, extra-judicially killed four individuals in his presence, the alleged kidnapper also denied having "Evans" as his nickname.

He said;

“I live at Fred Shoboyede Street, Magodo Phase II, Lagos. I am a businessman and I deal in ornaments and Horlicks.
"My lord, my name is not Evans and I don’t have a nickname.”

Ifeanyi and Aduba, two former soldiers of the Nigerian Army who also testified on Tuesday, denied being accomplices to the crime.

Aduba recounted refusing to sign a written statement admitting to the crime after allegedly being ordered to do so by one Idowu Haruna, said to be a member of the police intelligence response team (IRT). He also showed the court an injury on his body, claiming he was taken to a “theatre” where he was beaten and cut with a machete by Haruna.

Aduba also recalled how three men; Felix Chinemeren, Paul Samyan and Chukwuma Nwosu who were initially paraded before the media as kidnappers, were killed by members of the IRT.

He said;

“I was still being told to sign some papers but I refused and I said if I refuse I will travel (slang for killed). At that point, Idowu Haruna brought out his phone for me to look at some pictures.
“When I looked at it, I discovered it was the dead bodies.
