Rudolph Okonkwo is a good writer.No doubt he has a wealth of knowledge and introspection about the world and Nigeria. The problem with people like Rudolph is that they don't want to face the real question, the tough question. Does Nigeria work as a nation? Are we really a united people despite our cultural, religious, traditional and ideological divides? It doesn't matter who is in Aso Rock come 2019, how will this person unite Nigeria for a progressive agenda? Just this persons religion will make him and enemy of south or North (Christian or Muslim). How will this person convince Nigerians to believe in a 'one Nigeria' amidst a recession plagued Nigeria? How will this person convince all political blocs in Nigeria that he comes for all? Obasunjo couldn't do it in the North or Niger Delta. GEJ couldn't do it in the North, SW and Middle bel. And right now, Buhari cant do it in in the SE,SS and even parts of the NE and SW who voted for him.

People talk about Atiku, but if he campaigns in 2019 on supporting 'true federalism' we all know what is going to happen. The North will reject him, he will get some support in the SE/SS while the SW will continue with their APC (they don't have a choice). Giving Buhari a landslide. Funny thing is that a shady characters like Atiku (and Buhari) are not fit to run any country in Africa.

I think the important question Rudolph should start asking is not about 2019 but if Nigeria works as a nation, because if the answer is that Nigeria does not work as a nation, it doesn't matter who gets elected, Adolph Hitler or sister Theresa, nothing will still work.

You made sense and I like the fact that you asked the pertinent question; does Nigeria work as a nation? It doesn't! But since we have decided to yoke ourselves together, fail and fall together, why don't we all agitate for total and fiscal federalism? Why don't we all agitate for the reduction of the powers at the Presidency? Let us give back the power to the people.

People are worried that governors are going to abuse these powers, if we go for fiscal federalism. That is true, but since they are closer to the people, it would be easy to deal with them, through protests, impeachment and civil disobedience. One major problem of this country is that we have only one tier of government(in practice), which is the federal government and it is too far from the people. Buhari does not know up to 20% of the people and country he governs. He doesn't know their history, aspiration and expectation from the government. How can he lead them well?

We are no longer led by a military government, but we are yet to change our military mentality where everything flows from the top. Where there is only one arm and tier of government. This is why you hear things like "Buhari has ordered the CBN to fix exchange rate at #197 for pilgrims " "Buhari has ordered the release of money for IDP's " "Buhari has ordered the release of boko haram detainees " pray are their not people in charge of agencies that these 'orders' are directed at? Are they employed to sit down and wait for orders?

Okonkwo and his band of elite writers might be good in their art(since they write from the confines of a decent society and have the platform to reach a wider audience), they don't really understand the problem of this country or are in cahoots with our oppressors to mislead us as to our problems.

Propping up Buhari in 2015 shows that so many elites don't understand our problem as a people. GEJ was bad, don't get me wrong, but he was a democrat or pretended one. He had economic managers who were doing good. He also showed that he could listen to the people. If we wanted to change him, it shouldn't have been a Buhari. Since the APC zoned the Presidency to the Muslim north, why not a Tambuwal or even Atiku, who are democrats? Or why not retain GEJ and push him till he effects those changes we desire.

Now we have a dinosaur who does not understand how a modern country and economy is run. He is overwhelmed by the demands of his office anwd is at a loss why we are making demands of him. Whether we like it or not, Nigeria is back to pre 1999 times. After Buhari, Nigeria will have to dust itself up and begin to find its foot afresh.
