The same way we had RvP, Chamark, Park, Walcott, Arshavin (before we loaned him) and Gerv compete for 3 positions.

At least two of Arshavin, Chamack and Park would be leaving making up space for the new wages for Giroud and Poldi.

I also like to think RvP loves arsenal and wants to stay, but i'm pretty sure he wants trophies more. Considering that City is almost certainly going to lift silverware next season , it will be hard for him not to move there (if they meet Arsenal's evaluation). We can call Nasri and Clichy names all we want, but these guys have medals they wouldn't have had if they stayed at the Emirates.
If I were a pro footballer at the ripe age of 29 without having any medals of my own, I would do anything for medals. The fact that he has even delayed up till now even points to the fact that he is leaving.

Its not the obvious for these reasons:

1. One of the conditions for him to stay is that the club makes quality signings to enable us challenge for the title. Podolski and Giroud fall in this category.

2. From the dutch experience at the ongoing euro games, RvP definitely recognizes the contribution of wingers like Walcott who enable him to score so many goals and if he moves away, he may not reproduce the kind of form he showed last season.

3. His family actually love London.

4. Arsenal appear ready to offer him a 130k a week deal. Only Manshitty will go far beyond that.

In all honesty, i dont see RvP staying. If anyone tables a bid up to or more than 25M, Wenger will deal.

One of the things Arsenal fans have been clamoring for is a dependable striker on the bench who could bring in something new when the playing striker appears to have run out of ideas. City have Dzeko sitting when Tevez Aguero and Balotelli start, Manure keep Chika on the bench when Rooney/Welbeck play, Chelski keep Sturridge when Torres/Drugs play. Giroud will be our capable sub when RvP/ Poldi pay.
Moreover, Giroud is arriving from a relatively lower league to the EPL and cant possibly be expecting to be start every game like RvP.

You are also not considering that Giroud may be coming in for either or both of Charmack/Park. Its not rocket science that at least one of those two will be leaving. Giroud is coming for 50k/week. Wont cost us a arm and leg to keep a Giroud and still retain the VP when ppl like Arshavin are off our wages list.
