Signing a thug doesn't necessarily result in protection for the midfield. It is more of potential danger as we will know we have someone who is likely to collect a card right from the blowing of the whistle. I will be so disappointed in AW if he gives it a though to sign Barton as that will signal a contradiction to the the kind of football that has kept so many ardent fans even after 6 trophyless years.
