A Minute Information
Rachael trudged on the street with the hope she would see a place to charge the battery of her phone. The darkness of the area mixed with the cold made everything look eerie.

Rachael kept trekking the dusty street, knowing that she would see a place to charge her phone despite being five streets away from home. The fuel scarcity has affected everyone; even service providers had gone off-line. Five days ago, T.V stations and Radio station went off-line, compelling people to opt for newspapers; however, Newspapers also stopped publication two days ago.

Just as she was about to give up, she saw it- a house, where generator was providing their electricity. Rachael was so happy that she raced to the place and did not stop until she ran into a hefty man.
‘Bros, no vex…’
He grunted.
‘Abeg I fit see place charge phone’.
‘Yes…yes…’

The guy led her to a place in the house, which, when Rachael got to, made her almost run back: many people were there, charging their gadgets; many of them were pressing them even while charging them.
Rachael rushed to plug her phone. She knew every minute count.

‘Sister, you don shake my phone’, someone called.
‘I’ll do it’, she replied.
Rachael was so hungry for information- she needed to know what was happening within the country. She needed entertainment also. Her body tingled when the phone came on, and licked her lower lips when she logged into her blog.

At first, she did not want to write anything but felt people needed information too, so she wrote ‘How’s is it going in your area?’

She felt the need not to write more, so she posted it and she surfed other sites for news. Religious people were already on their knee, especially the Christians who believed this was greatest sign of end time they’ve seen.

Great minds have been questioning the president, Jeremiah Pete, who had been trying to decipher the reason behind this problem.

Just then, she began to receive answers to her question. Rachael hurriedly read people’s answers, just to satisfy her deep hunger for information, and to read the way people would use languages to analyse this problem.

She was enjoying it until she saw one that made muffle a cry.
“I was robbed of my laptop in a house we went to charge. Some of the guys with whom we were charging phones together stuck guns into our back, and asked us to drop our things”.

She replied
‘Where is your place?
And waited agitatedly for his reply, with fear he would not reply that night again.

A big house at Ajede Street at Abesan in Lagos.
Oh God! That was where she was.

She stylishly picked her phone and knew that the best thing she could do was to run, and run she did, pushing past the hefty man, and didn’t stop until she got home.

‘Sister’, someone called from behind her as she stopped.
She turned to see a lanky man panting heavily.
‘I was there also…’

Literature › Saviour Of The Rain by Divepen1(mod): 8:24pm On Sep 16, 2015
Saviour of the Rain

Shaking vigorously, Vincent kept moving in the rain and the mud of Majidun road.
' Hello,' he said, as he picked his phone that had rung five times earlier,' Darling, I will be home soon'. He used his hand to shield himself from the rain as the wind of the heavy rain rushed towards him.
‘Where are you?’ his wife asked, shouting over the phone,' it’s 11:00pm ooo'.
‘I know... I know... I will be there soon', he answered with a quivering voice. His belly yearning desperately for a hot, liquid and sweet substance.
‘I know....’ he said again as his wife disconnected the call.
Vincent had left home since morning in hope of meeting Chief Ebuka, his helper. He wanted to plead with him to give him a little money for his daughter's school fee but Chief Ebuka did not return, even after 8.30 in the night when the rain started. And he had to find shelter somewhere till 10.00pm. But when the rain did not stop, he left for his house, and now he just want to get home, wrap himself in the arms of his always-loving wife, and to feel the hug of his beloved beautiful daughter, and then he would share a cup of hot Lipton with his family if time permits.
‘Help’, a frail voice filtered-in through the heavy and fierce rain.
He must have heard wrong. The wind that splashed on his thick skin made him increase his speed.
He was shaking vigorously as the cold wind rushed at his chest beneath his wet shirt.
‘Help’, the frail voice cried again.
Vincent was sure he heard the voice, so he stood still. The cry came again, jolting him and making his run towards the place the voice was coming from: the canal.
Without thinking of the consequences, he ran towards a car that was slipping into the canal. The car was still dangling near the canal. Vincent ran towards it and saw a lady trying to come out of the car, but seemed afraid of doing so because to come out means moving an inch would shift the weight of the car.
Vincent held onto the slippery side of the boot of the car.
' Come to the rear', he shouted at the lady who was looking at him as if she was in a trance. He wondered if she could not hear him as the rain and the wind beat him; however, she started moving as he prepared himself to shout again. He caught her and they rolled away from the carnal.
She opened the door and jumped out. And immediately, the car jolted forward and crashed, headfirst into the canal, almost pulling Vincent with him.
' Thank you', the lady said and fainted.
' What?!' Vincent shouted as he picked her, and raced for the nearest hospital.
The hours that followed saw him sleeping in the hospital, and later explaining to her family what had happened.
Luckily for him, she was chief Ebuka’s daughter, and that helped him pay his daughter’s school fees.
Unluckily for him, the lady, Precious, fell in love with him.

Literature › The Pain Of Knowing ( Short Story) by Divepen1(mod): 6:38pm On Sep 16, 2015
The Pain of Knowing
Tunde entered the room, and from the way he looked, I assume he did not want to be seen. He sneaked into his children's room to be sure they were sleeping. He smiled as he watched their body heave up and down. They enjoy peace only when their mother was asleep. She treated them as if they were not her children.

He gently closed the door, and headed for his room. He gently climbs the bed and crawled to his
wife's side as if he was going to kiss her; she opened her eyes and smiled- I can tell he receives
such smiles only at night from the way she was staring at him- he smiled back, pain reflecting
in his eyes, he climbed her as she brought up her hand to caress his face.
‘ Don’t stress yourself. I will be doing everything. Just pretend you don’t know I’ve entered the room’, he said, whispering.
She nodded and closed her eyes, a big smile lingering on her lips.

He bent to kiss her while his hand fiddled with the second pillow on the bed.

Like a lightening, the fastest I've seen, he brought the pillow and placed it on her nose, suffocating
her. She fought for her life and tried to tear his hands off the pillow but he was stronger, and so
thirty seconds later, her body went limp. As I write now, I can imagine the victory in his eyes as he
completed the mission of killing his friend and his wife, who were cheating on him. He left the house the house and returned the next day to join those mourning the death of his beloved wife.

Literature › Arrogant Beauty by Divepen1(mod): 11:53am On Sep 16, 2015
Researchers believe when a woman enters a room of men and knows one of the men, she would look beautiful to all the men in the room because a energy connection would happen between her and the man, thereby making her beauty radiate.

However, when Ajoke entered Gtbank at Awolowo bus stop, Ibadan she got the attention of all the men there: an obvious contradiction of the research. The eyes of these men made the meaning of her name come to reality. Her name Ajoke, a Yoruba name meaning 'one we gather to pamper'.

She caught a bearded, huge, black man trying to hide his smile beneath his beard as she walked past him, and this made her lift the upper part of her face. Thus, her heart became warm.

Another guy was trying to catch her attention, and she could not help smiling when she saw that the design 'Tommy' on his shirt was now 'TO.. Y'.

Ajoke knew she was beautiful- fair, 5.4 feet tall, and slim (with the perfect body of a model) and was ready to flaunt. The only thing she hated about herself, and now loved, is her high-pitch voice.
'Excuse me', a guy from behind called. She turned and bit her lower lip when she saw the guy: It was the guy with the 'To...Y' shirt.
‘Pass.... Now', she said angrily as she turned to him, seeing he did not move an inch.
‘I’m not passing... I just want to tell you something', he said, his eyes dashing to the different parts of the room.

From the way he way he acting, she guessed what he wanted to say. She hissed, looked at him scornfully, eyed him, and turned. The guy’s behaviour disgusted her and that propelled her to bring out her Z10 blackberry. She logged in to Facebook, moved to ‘what's on your mind' and typed

‘Men.... Must you always woo every beautiful lady mtchew'.

The guy came near her again.' Sister', he said again, whispering.

Ajoke felt like leaving her whole body, slapping him, stuffing his ugly face with her fist. She felt like scratching his mouth off his head, like beating him to a pulp. What gave him the gut to think he can have access to touch her body- the body of a goddess?

She wanted to tell him to leave but she decided to snub him, and let him keep fantasizing about her.

The queue moved forward again, and the guy came forward for the umpteenth time.
‘Excuse me sister', he said as if he was been controlled by a spirit.
She refused to turn. Comments flowed into her post. Guys were against the topic; ladies were supporting her view.

‘Wetin dey do you sef? You think sey I want toast you?' The guy said angrily. Making her turn abruptly.
She felt every eyes turn towards her. There, she wished those eyes belonged to her because she loved to watch scenes like this; scenes of ladies, especially beautiful ones, disgracing men- Oh! She loved it. And, today, she would be the hero, preferably, the heroine while the guy would be the villain.
‘No be your zip I dey call you for?'
Ajoke stiffened, and slowly moved her heads towards her trousers, and felt people's eyes doing the same- their eyes relocated from her face to the zip of her trousers- it was opened, revealing her underwear.
‘How...When...Where...?' She mouthed as her left hand flew to it. Her heartbeat increased sporadically.
If eyes were gun, the eyes of the people in the banking hall would have killed her.
However, peoples' attentions were drawn from her, when
‘You can't tell me, I'm not the one in that pix?' An overweight woman in front of Ajoke lamented.
The cashier had accused the woman of impersonating someone else.
‘It’s not you.... If you did not leave now, I will call on the guard. It’s not you'.
‘I need this money... Are you blind?' The woman screamed.' Can't you see the pix?'
Another cashier tried to settle the issue, so he angrily turned the PC to the woman, and this made people stretch to see the pix, Ajoke not exempted.
The picture was actually different. The woman in the picture was slimmer and one could get two of her from this present woman- the fighter.
‘Are you blind? Don't you see that was when I was thin? I registered last two years.'
A big hush fell on the people in the hall. Some people sniggered, and muffled their laughter.
The cashiers, after looking at the picture carefully, decided she was the one.
Ajoke smiled at her phone and typed
‘Women, never ever snub a guy, and erm.... Try not to grow fat'.
*The End*

A young man, Dan, finds himself across the table
from the Devil himself.
Of course Dan knows the Devil for who he is and
knows he isn't to be trusted but he can't seem to
stop himself from listening to his offer and even
considering it....
Enjoy and pls drop your thoughts on it when you
are done. If you were in Dan's shoes, what would
you do?
DINNER WITH THE DEVIL
The room was dark and dimly lit, II looked around
but could find no evidence of a timepiece. Unable to
tell what time it was, I resigned myself to staring
back at him, studying his features and trying to
deduce what he was thinking.
He studied me in the same way and I had to put up
a poker face, not that I had ever been so good at
the game anyway.
He sat across from me on the other side of the
desk, much like the type the police had in
interrogation rooms. The room was bare save for
the desk and two chairs which we occupied, sitting
on either sides of it, opposite each other.
He didn't have to introduce himself, for I seemed to
know who he was even though the name tag above
the breast pocket of the dark suit he wore was
clear.
'Devil', it read.
He was far from how popular opinion described his
looks, rather he was handsome with soft endearing
features. The kind that was easy to trust even if he
was a stranger but I wasn't fooled.
I believed I knew him for who he was, he was the
devil, the father of lies and a deceiver. Nothing true
could ever come from his mouth.
Something told me he was here to broker a deal
and I had already made up my mind that whatever
he was selling, I wasn't buying no matter how
attractive an offer it was.
Suddenly his eyes crinkled and he smiled, his
features transformed, getting me all the more alert
for any trick he might have up his sleeve.
"So you think you have it all figured out, don't you?"
He asked but I remained mute for fear that I might
fall into some invisible trap he had set.
He shook his head before saying, "it's not that
simple, Dan.It's not all black or white, you know?
There are grey areas."
I kept mute, watching him but I knew he was
talking about my resolve not to fall into temptation.
He must have read my mind and was toying with it,
trying to explain to me that sometimes we couldn't
be blamed for our actions.
Grey areas, indeed! What's wrong is wrong and no
amount of meandering could make wrong appear as
right.
" I am going to get straight into it as I hardly have
the time to waste. I have many others like yourself
to tend to. So Dan," he called and I raised a brow
acknowledging his call.
He continued, "I have a simple deal which I am very
sure you would agree to."
I stopped him here, "then you would be very
wrong," I said, "because I am not interested in
whatever deal you are on about."
Getting up from my seat, I was about to leave when
he called me back.
"Dan, you haven't heard my proposition yet, how
can you be so sure you wouldn't be interested?"
That smile on his face irked me. It was too sweet,
too open, too fake and calculating. I chose to look
into his eyes instead, the eyes never hid much, not
even the devil's. He hungered for something, that
was clearly obvious.
"I would be the greatest fool if I got into a deal with
you! " I spat.
His smile was still up but he sat back in his seat,
leaning back on the back rest. "Just humour me,
will you?"
Humour him? I thought and decided there would be
no harm in listening to his story. I already knew my
position concerning whatever he hoped to put
forward anyway.
I sat down telling myself I was strong, I knew his
antics, I would definitely rise above whatever he was
playing at.
"Okay, I am sitting now, can you get on with it
already?" I asked brusquely, losing patience with his
slow and manipulative tactics.
"Alright, I..I have a proposition for you, a juicy
one...one that would be awfully dangerous to
resist."
" Yeah right." I scoffed.
"First let's talk about Deborah, or Debbie as you like
to call her."
I frowned, my eyes narrowing with suspicion
suddenly perplexed at what in the world might
connect Debbie to all this.
Debbie had been the love of my life. We had known
each other all our life. We had begun dating in our
early teens until adulthood.
We had just begun preparations for our traditional
marriage when she'd been diagnosed with that
started disease, cancer. Things had gone downhill
quite quickly after that. My once beautiful, healthy
and boisterous fiancee had been reduced to bones,
unable to keep anything down.
She had withered away, the disease claiming her
barely four months after diagnosis.
It was six months ago but for me it felt like
yesterday. My life had been a mess since the day
she had breathed her last.
Her last words to me had been to live my life to its
fullest as in the twinkling of an eye it could all be
taken away but where would I begin?
I had been haunted for the first few months, cursing
life, God, everything and everyone. Just trying to
place the blame on something hoping that if I could
transfer my anger at something, I would feel less of
it inside.
Now, six months after, I hadn't fully gotten over it
but it seemed I was in the beginning stages of
accepting it.
"What about her?" I asked, my voice laced with
suspicion.
Why had the devil brought her into this, what was
his game really?
"You love her." He told me.
"I loved her, she is dead." I stated.
" Yes, I am aware she is dead but you are still in
love with her? Don't bother lying....I am the father of
lies so naturally, I can spot your lies easily."
I shrugged, "Okay? What if I do? It's not a sin to be
in love with a dead person, is it?"
He grinned, shaking his head. " No it's not, of
course. "
"Okay, so what is the problem? Can you just get on
with it?"
"Okay, okay." He gestured with his hands for me to
keep calm "I have watched you these past months
and I have seen how hard it has been for you.I have
felt your pain, Dan. Your pain of loss, and it was
like none other.
You took a big hit when Debbie died, your world
was shifted rudely and abruptly. Your business,
your family, you took a break from everything as
you couldn't cope. Even now, you are still unable to
piece it back together. "
The past six months had been really rough indeed, I
agreed with a nod. It still didn't explain what
Debbie's role was in his proposition.
He continued "When she died, it was like she took a
part of you along with her l, wasn't it?"
It had been like she took all of me with her. I
realised after her death, I couldn't figure out who I
was without her. I had built my life around her, she
had been my best friend, confidant, business
partner, everything. Everything I did, saw or touched
reminded me of her.
How could I move on when she was still everywhere
around me?
"What if you could have her back?" He asked
suddenly and everywhere went deathly quiet.
I wasn't sure I had heard him right. I looked up
sharply, "Come again?"
"What if you could have her back?" He stated again,
clearly and I knew I that was my cue to leave.
I should get out of here, I thought. I should get up,
walk out and leave him behind with his tricks but I
couldn't. I still wanted to know if he was serious,
could he really bring back someone from death?
"You can't do that." I said disbelievingly.
"Trust me, that is nothing for me to do." He replied
now smug.
I regarded him quietly, the last thing I would do was
trust him but if he was serious that he could bring
Debbie back, I wanted to hear all he had to say
about it. Just so I would know what I as turning
down, I told myself.
"Imagine she was back here with you, you both get
married, kids in the nearest future, your business
thriving again? Your parents wouldn't be worried
about you anymore because you would be back to
normal....think about it....it seems like a great deal,
doesn't it?"
As he spoke, I pictured it all in my mind and it was
beautiful. Beautiful Debbie as my wife, we would
have our kids.....I wanted it.
"It can happen, Dan." He spoke as if on cue. "I will
reverse it all like it had never happened and no one
would be the wiser, except for you. Your wedding
would go on as planned but you would know what
happened, you will remember everything.
Her death, your sorrow and most especially our
conversation here today."
His gaze searched mine and I tried to hide my
weakness. I tried to fight temptation but I heard
myself ask, "what's in it for you."
He flashed that unnerving grin once again as if he
knew he had me.
I told myself he didn't, I just wanted to know his
price.
"Your soul."
"What?'
" I am in need of souls for my kingdom, grant me
yours and you shall have every lovely thing you
desire on earth. Your fiancée, a wonderful family,
money and wealth."
His voice was suddenly hypnotic and I closed my
eyes as thoughts ran through my mind.
My soul for Happiness on this earth? My soul for
my wonderful, beautiful Debbie? My soul for my
sanity? My soul for everything I ever wished for?
My soul for a wonderful life on earth.
And eternity?
I had no answer to that.
Opening my eyes, I looked back at him. It was as if
he knew even before I had made my choice because
he grinned knowingly. He didn't hide his joy, he had
gained another soul for his kingdom.
I wondered how many times he had done this
before? I wondered how many souls he had
captured through his difficult to resist deals.
What happened from then on was almost a blur, I
guess I was just moving through the motions
automatically.
He probably already had my soul then but when I
heard the sound of my love's voice rousing me
awake and into reality, that was when it hit me and I
knew for a fact what I had just done.
Opening my eyes, she came into focus. Her smile
so beautiful, her eyes so innocent and expressive,
her lips..... I had missed them. I had missed her
and right then and there, it all seemed worth it.
