It's pretty tough getting an interested publisher in Nigeria. I've had this crime fiction manuscript that once came third in an African competition.

I don't want to self publish because I really want it on many Nigeria book shelves. But all these publishers just wouldn't give positive response.
Try cassava republic, they deal with crime science fiction

Literature › Bring The Sugar And Not The Junks (an Allegory By Akintayo Akinjide) by Divepen1(mod):
Dedicated To Everyone That Desires A Change

One day, in the eerie seasons, when the moon was dangling in the sky, but looked very far, a little ant stumbled on a good pile of junk, and decided to take to it home. The junk was garnished by a lot of bits from people's
sugar. Who could blame it? It had been searching the whole town for sugar to add to the pile in the store. Its father had claimed that if he didn't return to the village's store with something good.

That was traumatizing. Its father was the storekeeper because he kept his promises. If the little ant refused to return home, it couldn't fend for itself. So, when it pulled the junk to the store, his proud father led hm to the part that was meant for the best of things. The next day, everyone wanted to see the junk because it was laden with all the sweetest thing in the land. They gathered and stared at it in amazement. Mothers pulled the ears of their little ones to the store, and adviced them to be like the little ant. Adults wanted to prove to the little ant's mouthy father that they were ant-men, and were better than its naive pampered son. Or who makes a crunchable ant a role model for the ancient of days?

They all gathered in a haste like a stampede and searched the land for the best junks. Very soon, they were getting accolades for the sweetness that surpassed that of little ant.
And very soon, everyone forgot the one that started the call for junk, even its father did. Now, he chewed their praises and flogged its son with soul-rendering and snide comments.

However, things changed. The junks overshadowed the sugar.

'What do we eat?' the ants cried. 'This junk isn't building us'.

Being the storekeeper, little ant's father told them to seek out food by themselves within the store. After all, it was their handiwork that buried the sugar under the junk.

Grudingly and grumpily, they scrambled through the junks but soon, they returned, dejected and angry that they did a lot of work to fill the store.

How come they now had to hunt for their food within the store?
Without further ado, they decided to make a law: No more junk. In fact, anyone who hoped to put sugar in the store must give it to the storekeeper, who, as proud as ever, would now be laden with the sacred duty of putting
the right sugar in the store.

Despite all these, the ants were now hungry-not for sugar, but for
irrelevancies. They missed the busy road that led to the store. They missed the fights and arguments they had to watch. They missed the moonlight-type
of love they witnessed between ants. Oh! And the playful or flirty ones.

With the speed of a wildfire, the store was only accessed by the
storekeeper. Working in his loneliness;yet, diligent manner.
Luckily, there was a sage, which understood the meaning of gossips and jest, which knew that living things strived on irrelevanciess. The sage with her stick of wisdom pulled the assertive storekeeper to a corner and adviced him to let the ants bring sugar to the store by themselves.
And in their twos and threes, they strutted towards the store; though, still skeptical. The storekeeper could brandish its white banner that was smeared with a red canceling sign, to show that their works were contrabands.
Regardless of what anyone thought, another little ant was staring at a white substance that doesn't look like the little sugar he ate at home. The
substance in front of him looked like the junk his father told him about, but he never was around to really visualise a junk, but he had the fear they were akin to each other. As he dragged it to the gate of the storekeeper, and hoped that things would work better, he saw a veteran coating junks with sugar. The veteran dropped it in the store, and nothing was said. The little ant dropped it, but was mildly repremanded. And soon,
the story began again with the leniency of the storekeeper because, this time, the little ant was his grandson.

It isn't necessary!! Ya'all killing this section. Literature is not only to read stories, but also to improve writers!!

That's why we keep reading same low quality stories over and over again!!

Take note. Good I no longer visit the section again! Can't you apply the tactics of the webmaster section?

They improve themselves !!!
Thank you for advice that almost looked like a banter.
Someone like me, I'm planning it, and hope to start before February ends. I've just not brought it because I don't want it to stop halfway like the former ones.
Moreover, are you not a writer also? Do you not own Topwritersden? Can't you teach people? How many teaching threads did the moderator there open?
If you're reading low stories here and there, have you ever corrected people like people like Kayo80, Debbietiyan, Missnande, Evajael, Larrysun (to mention a few) do to writers here?
More so, if you feel we should tackle this topic, you should have opened a thread for us to tackle that. I only responded it to it because of your name as writer here and as a person.

Compliment of the season.

Literature › A Criticism Of My Unpublished Work 'purified Tomorrow' by Divepen1(mod): 3:19am On Dec 22, 2017
Here is a criticism of 'The Purified Tomorrow'; rather, the good side of the criticism
I would have dropped it in its rawness i.e including the expected corrections because even my editor called the criticism apt, but I would follow the saying that human would lick the hand dipped in palm oil, and not the bloody ones. So, I will post the good ones while I work on the parts she discussed. I wish I can tag her. But this was done by Deborah O..... ( Debbietiyan).

Purified for tomorrow, is a dystopian themed science fiction. I got into
reading this book with high expectations, and thankfully I wasn’t
disappointed. The story is basically set in futuristic earth…over a hundred
centuries from now, and the world’s population is an alarming percentage
less than it is now, due to the obliteration of invaded aliens centuries
back- but now, there are speculations that in some manner, there still
exists some aliens as there weren’t all eradicated. Now a secret group
known as the Grousters are working secretly and rearing up trouble for the
new earth, preaching the re-emergence of a history long forgotten- or not
even remembered.
Things I love about the book/ character rant
I love how unconventionally the protagonist was being portrayed. Carl was
absolutely unlikable. He was so rude, and don’t get me started on how vain
he was. I’m still trying to figure out how Joyce became his girlfriend.
I love chubby, nerdy Fred. I foresee that he is going to be of a lot more useful in the quest.
I love Iris transition from a fearful teenager, to one of the wanted
students on Eytes.
I love the flow of the book, and how characters explained from different
viewpoints had their own voices. And were able to connect.
Katrina was so annoying, there were so many times I felt like reaching into
my laptop to slap her. Hmm, I sha knew Richard would fall hand…after all
the mouth making and self-assuring
I loved the surprising twist, I swear my mouth was left agape when I found
out what almighty Diana was truly about (would have written the main koko,
my nah…no spoilers, get the book wink).....

In summary, The book is very creative and engaging.
Thanks for the preview copy Divepen1, I cannot wait to read the concluding
part.

Luckily my editor sent in her own revision of the work just the same time I finished reading that. I'm set to work. January is almost upon us. These books are set for then, and I want you to anticipate. Debbietiyan volunteered to criticise it on her. That's why I want to thank her.

@Divepen1 I love Joshua Selman too. I carry hand for you o, if I start five stories at once God knows I won't finish any. The one wey I dey write sef na so so struggle.

BTW - Those of you that have written complete books or stories(not short ones),how do you ever finish it? That's one of my greatest challenge.
The thing is not easy. After I know i've gotten to a point that I see the twists are enough, i'll just write a mumu ending. Then as I begin to edit the drafts I'll build a better ending, and probably add another story. I was telling Evajael the other day. My story 'Grabbing The Hot Gate' was around 18k works when I finished the draft, but when I finished the third editing, I got to 50k+ words. So, all in all, the draft is your idea. Editing is the story writing.

Evajael and Missnande, Debbietiyan ... So, I got back from work and used my phone to say hi to somebody and since then the idiot refused to come on. That's since last week wednesday...
But I hope to get a phone that can visit nairaland at least.

Meanwhile, my writing process is one that Elizabeth Gilbert as people that work like Butterfly. We spread essence from one work to another. I'm not the jackhammer type of people that can concentrate on one work.
I can't sit down to write a book at a go, but i like to write up to ten at a go. In other words, when i get bored or fixed at a point in this story, i move to the other one. In one of the ted talks I listened to, one of the speakers said when one leaves the work, it would keep processing itself in our subconscious. And that's what i do. I remember I started writing about Chibok girls two or three years ago, I'm still on Chapter five. Meanwhile, I got the opportunity to write others as if they were just flooding in because I've been thinking of them for months without touching.

So, what happens at the writer's block ish...I read any of the following a. Chicken Soup for the soul b. Harry potter c. Percy jackson d. A compilation of stories.

Or i would rewatch any of the following, which unfortunately I have watched like ten times now. a. Scandals b. The 100 c. 24 hours

But what gives me inspiration?
Most times, when someone just joke around me. I live amidst sarcastic and funny people. Also, when listening to messages especially Joshua Selman.
