PoliticsRe: Few Things I Learnt From A Former President by DMerciful(m): 5:16pm On Apr 10, 2025
Conduct a free, credible and transparent election 15 times, Igbos will determine the outcome 15 times.

This is the reason that Nigerians are running away from technology in voting like real-time transmission and collation like CNN does for US elections
MrFourSHIRTS:
1. I learnt you have to take the fight to your enemies door step.
When He got elected for his first term and his ministers and other key positions were appointed, some people from "that side" started bad-mouthing his administration. They claimed He was tribal and nepotistic because of his appointments.

What did he do?
He made the people from "that side" realise they were a small dot in a big circle.
He made them realise 5% is just 5%.
I think he was the first to tell them the hard core fact "you have no electoral value".

2. The Internet is just the Internet:
Information and criticism is good in order to work on lapses. But it should not be used as a tool disregard the government. In fact, social media is not above any goverment.

One media app removed the president's post because perhaps they had a staff from "that side" who thought he could exercise some power over the presidents handle grin
The social media app stopped functioning form months until they followed the government's instructions.

3. Those people from "that side" are born jealous and despise any form of progress. They took that act to the Upper Chamber and when the president was talking, that started their disrespect.

4. When a section of people are heavily funding and supporting criminals, target the leader of the Criminals.

The criminal was gallivanting all around the world and calling a sitting president an impostor... He had an entourage of clowns and praise worshippers around the world.

Well, he's cooling his feet behind the bars back home

PoliticsRe: Is ENGLISH Our Permanent National Language? by DMerciful(m): 5:10pm On Apr 10, 2025
So if you count 50 of Nigeria's problems, this would be one of them?

You lack focus
Reflect7:
Is ENGLISH Our Permanent National Language?

I ask because... we are AFRICANS.

We are not Englishmen or Europeans.

Do we actually have a PLAN to indigenize ourselves following the colonial interruption?

Or have we decided to become black Englishmen permanently?

PLEASE, TELL ME NO.

We must have a plan to have a national language that is AFRICAN.

I hear the AU is considering making KiSwahili the African lingua franca.

If so, GOOD.

What we CANNOT do is become permanent Europeans.

We can even decide here in Nigeria to pick ONE SMALL TRIBE'S LANGUAGE, like say the Berom people or Urhobo, and make it our national language.

But we cannot be a nation with ENGLISH as our national language forever.

Abi dem swear for us?

PoliticsRe: How Sunday Igboho Disappointed The Yorubas by DMerciful(m): 4:56pm On Apr 10, 2025
So you're not blaming Tinubu for herdsmen killings but Igboho?
Biodun556:
By now, Yoruba land would have been rid of killer herdsmen if not for Sunday Igboho ignorance and lack of focus.

When Sunday Igboho met Biafra agitators he lost focus, abandoned herdsmen obliteration and started calling for Yoruba nation an act that gave the government legal backing to give him deadly chase.

Majority of Yoruba youths volunteerd and gave full support to Igboho movement of eradicating the useless terrorists called herdsmen but once Igboho added treasonable motive, his idea became something else.

Now herdsmen are almost everywhere kidnapping and killing people on daily basis.

The bolded is the million-dollar question. Even Fubara, who is supposed to be fighting for his mandate, has not gone to court or filed any legal objection. Silence means consent, which means he is satisfied and okay with the state of emergency.

PoliticsRe: Pdp Governor's Suit: Dead On Arrival by DMerciful(m): 4:34pm On Apr 10, 2025
If the Supreme Court is a court of justice and polict, it will give a determination whether the president can suspend democratic institutions and elect sole administrator.

If the Supreme Court is a court of fraud, it will run away from the case. Citing precedence is holding tenacious to error by the justices of 2004, clearly there's need for improvement of jurisprudence over time and the Supreme Court has more than once reverses itself.

I really hope the military takes over nationally because it seems thats what we want
onlyhandsome202:
My attention has just been drawn to the Suit filed by Governors of PDP challenging the declaration of state of emergency in Rivers State. The Suit marked as Suit No: SC/CV/329/2025: ATTORNEY GENERAL OF ADAMAWA STATE & ORS v ATTORNEY GENERAL OF THE FEDERATION & ANOR seeks the Supreme Court to nullify the State of Emergency (SoE) declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

This matter is now sub judice so, no one can predict its outcome: but let me give us a background of the state of the law in relation to that suit by the PDP Governors.

In law, there is what we call judicial precedent, also known as stare decisis, meaning "to stand by things decided" and dictates that courts should follow prior rulings in similar cases, forming the foundation of our legal jurisprudence. The situation we have in Rivers State is the same with what we had in Plateau State in 2004. I do not mean that the underlying facts for the declaration of SoE in Rivers State were the same with Plateau State. No. I meant that in both situations, the Governors and Members of the House of Assembly were suspended and Military Administrator appointed to oversee the affairs of the State.

After the declaration of SoE in Plateau State, a suit was instituted at the Supreme Court against the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and the National Assembly (NASS) challenging the suspension of Governor Dariye and members of the Plateau State House of Assembly. A preliminary objection was filed by the AGF and NASS. A preliminary objection is a legal argument raised at the beginning of a case by the opposing party, often challenging the court's jurisdiction or the competence of the suit. One of the grounds of the preliminary objection filed the AGF and NASS in the Plateau State case was that THE SUIT WAS NOT AUTHORISED BY THE SOLE ADMINISTRATOR OF PLATEAU STATE. The Court agreed with the AGF and NASS that as at 24/6/2004 when the plaintiffs filed the suit, only the Sole Administrator could have authorized the filing of the suit on behalf of the Plateau State of Nigeria. In the suit filed by the PDP Governors, even the Sole Administrator or Attorney General of Rivers State was not even a party. Whatever you make of this observation is entirely yours.

The Supreme Court also held that THE SUIT SEEKS RELIEFS FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE NOT PARTIES TO THE CASE AND WHO HAVE NO COMPETENCE TO MAINTAIN THE ACTION. The Supreme court has no original jurisdiction in respect of claims or reliefs for individual persons by virtue of the provisions of Section 232(1) of the Constitution. The reliefs sought were for the personal benefits of Governor Dariye and members of the Plateau State House of Assembly, who were not even parties to the suit and thus the suit cannot activate the original jurisdiction of the Supreme Court. In this same suit filed by the PDP Governors, the reliefs sought are for the personal benefits of Gov. Siminalayi Fubara. The question is: does the Supreme Court have jurisdiction to entertain personal benefits? I also leave you to make your personal conclusions.

By the doctrine of judicial precedent, the judgment of the Supreme Court binds the Supreme Court. In the light of the above explanation, I make the following observations:
1. The PDP Governors lack the locus to file the suit at the Supreme Court.
2. Only the Sole Administrator of Rivers State can can authorize the filing of such suit.
3. The suit seeks personal reliefs for the benefit of Suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and he is not even a party to the suit.
4. It is abundantly clear that the Supreme Court does not have jurisdiction to determine the suit filed the PDP Governors.

This legal opinion is offered in the light of the Supreme Court decision in Plateau State Of Nigeria & Anor. V. Attorney-General of the Federation & Anor which is similar and/or the same with the suit now filed by the PDP Governors. I will keep a tab on this case to see how it pans out.

In the meantime, I ask: why do Governors suspended during a State of Emergency fail and/or neglect to file the suit themselves? If they refuse to, can anybody cry more than the bereaved? Interesting times ahead indeed!

Obi has to be diplomatic here

PoliticsRe: Peter Obi, Sowore, And The Search For Nigeria’s True Leader – My Honest Thoughts by DMerciful(m): 10:53pm On Apr 09, 2025
Nobody is asking Sowore to bring additional experience before becoming a representative or senator but you see president? You have to have public office experience that people can judge your antecedents
steeltrust:
I’m not disputing that fact but let’s be real—neither had Obama before he became a senator, and yet he became president. Experience isn’t just about titles; it’s about what you’ve done. Sowore’s been fighting corruption and bad governance since his UNILAG days, exposed rot as an investigative journalist, and stood up to multiple regimes at great personal risk.

Meanwhile, how many ‘experienced’ politicians with long CVs have we watched loot this country dry? OBJ was president twice—what did it change? Tinubu ‘built Lagos’ (allegedly), yet here we are. Sometimes, what Nigeria needs isn’t another insider who knows how to ‘play the game’ but someone who’s spent decades calling out the game.

That said, I get the skepticism. If Sowore ever gets a chance, he’ll have to prove himself like anyone else. But after decades of recycled leaders failing us, maybe it’s time to bet on the guy who’s never bowed to the system

PoliticsRe: Peter Obi, Sowore, And The Search For Nigeria’s True Leader – My Honest Thoughts by DMerciful(m): 6:15pm On Apr 09, 2025
Obama was a senator at the time

Sowore has not held any public position to know his antecedents
steeltrust:
Lol, you sound like the people who told Obama he wasn’t "experienced enough" before he became president. Since when did we start measuring a leader’s worth by how many rigged elections they’ve participated in? Sowore doesn’t have 20k votes because Nigeria’s system is designed to keep people like him out—same way they tried to silence Fela and Gani.

You want him to go to the House of Reps first? Good idea. But let’s be honest: even if he wins a seat, you’ll just move the goalpost again and say *"Let him be governor first."* Meanwhile, the same old thieves will keep recycling themselves at the top while we argue about "process."

The truth is, Nigeria doesn’t need more career politicians. It needs a disruptor. If you’re waiting for Sowore to "climb the ladder" the traditional way, you’ll be waiting forever—because that ladder is broken.

And by the way, if "low votes" disqualified people, how did Buhari win in 2015 after failing three times? 😏

Oga, stop playing a movie in your head, this is real life. You can't elect someone with consistent 20k votes nationwide.

Let Sowore go to house of representatives first
steeltrust:
Lol, "nobody will vote Sowore" is exactly what they said about Trump in 2016 and look how that turned out. As for your NNPC/Shell analogy, that’s the problem—Nigeria keeps recycling the same "experienced" people and wonders why nothing changes. Shell doesn’t hire rookies, but they also don’t keep CEOs who run the company aground. Meanwhile, our "experienced" leaders have turned Nigeria into a sinking ship, yet we keep begging them to stay at the helm. Funny enough, the same people who say Sowore isn’t "qualified" are the ones defending leaders who can’t even generate light or fix roads after decades in power. If experience means failure, maybe it’s time to try inexperience. At least he won’t owe the cabals any favors.
