Politics › Re: Cbn Injects $198m To Stabilize Fxmarket As Naira-falls by DMerciful(m): 1:10pm On Apr 06, 2025 |
Gaslighting Tinubu has almost doubled our debt. He is robbing Peter to pay Paul for optics and propaganda seunmsg: Floating doesn’t mean CBN will not intervene occasionally to help provide liquidity for the market.
Trump recently introduced a wide range of tariffs that has affected trade globally. In fact, global trade has shrieked by about $10trillion in barely three days. All countries are affected so Nigeria cannot be an exception.
So in exceptional situations like this, CBN can intervene to ensure there is liquidity in the market. The aim is to make sure the exchange rate remains stable despite global shocks. The good thing is we are now in a very good position for such interventions with a net foreign reserve of over $23billion compared to the $3.9billion Tinubu met in 2023.
So, injecting $198million is nothing. It doesn’t even scratch our foreign reserve. We are building the reserve for a day like this when such intervention will be inevitable.

Politics › Re: Omenka/Mar2012: Can Nairalanders Request Their Accounts To Be Deleted? by DMerciful(m): 1:07pm On Apr 06, 2025 |
Omenka is just ashamed for his terrible political choices and campaigns since 2015 Heavens1stson: I came across several threads by a user named MAR2012, where he repeatedly appealed to the forum owner, Mr. Seun Osewa, to delete his account. Prior to that, another user, Omenka, published a post on January 7, 2024, also requesting account deletion and even issuing threats. Yet, over a year later, his account remains active.
Reading through the comments on these threads, one theme is consistent: users mocking the requesters and telling them to simply quit the platform rather than "disturbing" Seun with deletion demands. However, this response is legally and ethically problematic. Mocking data subjects and dismissing their right to be forgotten undermines their fundamental human rights. Users have the right to request account deletion, and the platform owner is legally obligated to comply, unless specific, valid exceptions apply.
Legitimate Reasons Users May Request Account Deletion
There are several valid and legally protected reasons a user may wish to delete their account:
1. Privacy Concerns
• Loss of trust in the platform’s data handling practices
• Fear of data breaches, leaks, or misuse
• Uncertainty about where data is stored and who has access
2. Withdrawal of Consent
• The user no longer consents to the platform processing or using their data
• Exercising their right to withdraw consent under data protection laws such as the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA)
3. Security or Safety Reasons
• The account was hacked or compromised
• The user feels unsafe due to harassment, stalking, or threats
Security concerns are particularly pressing. I recall a colleague who quit Facebook but left his account standing. It was later hacked, and the hacker used it to post pornographic and offensive content. This went on for weeks before his family and friends alerted him. The reputational damage was severe.
Why Omenka and MAR2012 Are Within Their Rights to Request Account Deletion
The right "to be forgotten" is explicitly provided in Section 34 of the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA), signed into law on June 12, 2023, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This section, built on the foundation of Section 37 of the 1999 Constitution, the EU's GDPR, and Nigeria's earlier NDPR, grants data subjects the right to request the erasure of their personal data from a controller or processor (in this case, Nairaland/Seun) under specific conditions:
• The data is no longer necessary for the purpose for which it was collected
• Consent has been withdrawn
• The data was unlawfully processed
• The data must be erased to comply with a legal obligation
• The user objects to the processing and there is no overriding legitimate reason to retain it
Controllers are required to erase the data without undue delay when these legal grounds are met.
Importantly, a forum user’s data may include usernames, email addresses, profile information, and posts that can be linked to their identity.
However, instead of full deletion, forum operators like Seun Osewa may opt for anonymization, such as changing the author name to “nobody” or “deleted user.”
Exceptions
There are valid exceptions to full deletion:
If the data must be retained for legal compliance, moderation history, or pending law enforcement actions.
However, the platform should clearly state the specific legal basis and provide documentation if required (e.g., court orders, police requests).
Vague justifications such as "we might need it later" are not sufficient. The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has the authority to audit retention practices and demand evidence of legal necessity. Mere speculative concerns are not grounds for denying erasure.
Remedy
If the data controller (Nairaland/Seun) fails to comply with a valid deletion request, the user (data subject) can:
• File a complaint with the NDPC, or
• Pursue legal redress in court |
Politics › Re: Peter Obi: Always In Transit, Never Building by DMerciful(m): 1:05pm On Apr 06, 2025 |
Why are you obsessed with Obi? SmartEnergyng: In politics, as in life, consistency is not convenience—it’s character. And when a man switches homes every election cycle, you have to wonder: What exactly does he stand for?
Peter Obi has become the poster child of political wandering in Nigeria’s Fourth Republic.
From PDP, to APGA, back to PDP, then on to Labour Party in 2023—and if whispers in the corridors are right, he’s warming up to return to PDP by 2027.
This isn’t evolution. It’s evasion. It’s not strategic repositioning—it’s a lack of ideological spine.
The Politics of Renting vs. Building
There’s a difference between a man who builds a house and one who rents rooms every four years.
Peter Obi has never built a party structure. He has never developed an enduring platform. He simply borrows space, borrows momentum, and moves on when the music stops.
Contrast that with a man like Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who took AD, morphed it into ACN, merged it into APC, and transformed that platform into a ruling party with nationwide reach.
That’s what builders do. They don’t move with the wind—they plant trees, even when the ground is hard.
Obi's Politics Is Movement Without Mission
Every political season, Obi rebrands. But what he doesn’t do is stay, build, or sustain. He thrives on disruption, not development. He inspires movements, but abandons them when it’s time for structure.
The Labour Party gave him a ticket, a following, a historic wave. But what did he give back? Nothing lasting. No rooted organization. No institutional framework. No foundation for continuity.
It’s the Aba Trader model of politics—shiny today, gone tomorrow. A Golden Pot Full of Holes
As we say in our part of the world: “The man who carries a golden pot full of holes will still come home thirsty.”
Obi has been handed golden moments in Nigerian politics—mass youth support, media attention, moral high ground. But with no staying power and no long-term plan, those moments leak away, just like water from a cracked pot.
You don’t win nation-building with campaign tours and soundbites. You win it with patience, structure, and consistency. You don’t lead by jumping ships—you lead by anchoring one and growing it.
Peter Obi is always on the move. But Nigeria needs people who build where they stand, not those who vanish when the dust settles.
A rolling stone gathers no moss.
A rolling politician gathers no legacy. |

The Federal High Court in Abuja has stopped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from interfering in the leadership of Dan Orbih and his team in the South-South region.
Justice Inyang Ekwo, who gave the ruling, said the PDP must not interfere in the work or leadership of the South-South Zonal Working Committee led by Orbih.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the committee, backed by FCT Minister Wike was elected on February 22, 2025, in Calabar, Cross River State.
The court’s order will be valid until a final decision is made in the ongoing case, labelled FHC/ABJ/CS/505/2025, filed by Chief Dan Orbih and members of his committee.
Justice Ekwo also stopped another group led by Chief Emmanuel Ogidi, which was appointed by the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC), from acting as leaders of the zone or parading as zonal committee.
The case was adjourned to Friday, April 11, 2025.

Tinubu has borrowed more than any other president before him DeLaRue: Why would I want to swap Mr Tinubu for Mr Atiku
The current administration has made very strident progress in several aspects of the economy that previous administrations had shied away from for over 30 years.
Even the earliest critiques of the government are now admiting that those difficult changes, including the removal of oil and currency subsidies had to be made. You want us to go back to borrowing heavily to pay for subsidies that a few corrupt people got fantastically rich from?
You now want us to abandon the economic stability that is now becoming a reality, and jump to a new President, before the current changes are consolidated.
Please can you mention 3 or 4 policies of Mr Atiku or Mr Obi that are superior to the trajectory that we are currently on.
Is it Mr Obi's pie in the sky 'From consumption to production'
Please list the policies so we can understand why we should elect a new President, particularly one that will be above 80 years old by 2027. |
Politics › Re: Peter Obi Should Run As VP To Atiku in 2027 by DMerciful(m): 11:21am On Apr 05, 2025 |
Why can't Obi run as president and El Rufai or Tambuwal or Bala Mohammed as vice? Stricker321: Politics is about strategy and reality, not by emotions and sentiments. The sure way to remove Tinubu in 2027 is for Peter Obi to run as VP to Atiku. They cannot rig the outcome of this combination.
What most Obidients don't know is that Tinubu rode on Peter Obi to become president in 2023. Anything apart from Atiku/Obi will likely fail and return Tinubu for a second term as president.
Either use your brain or continue to rant out of emotions but I can assure you that if Atiku decides to run separately, and Obi also decides to run, Tinubu will remain in office.
You can see that Tinubu is already paving the way for Obi to run that is why the Supreme Court sacked Abure just to play on the emotions of Obidients and give them a false sense of hope. They know what they are doing. Ordinarily, the Nigerian judiciary we know would have upheld Abure as LP chairman but they sacked him to make it easy for Obi to run again in 2027 and seriously tear apart Atiku's votes just like 2023.
While Peter Obi may have good intentions, he must be told that he is covertly working for Tinubu if he decides to run solo in 2027 again. |
