I don't use drupal so I don't hav any tutorials on it. And u don't hav to know css or php to use cms.For contact 08182428991/08062207346, bbm:28B80E4B email:hilaryiwens@yahoo.comUnfortunately, i'm not in lagos but i wouldn't mind if you can share any tutorial or links you may have. I heard drupal is more heavy duty than most, is that right? Can you use joomla to design a classified ad site with lots of configurations? |
oieda: www.w3schools.comI've thought about learning php, it's similar to c# i think but i haven't really taken the time to go through it so i'm guessing that's a starting point. I understand some html code but it seems like cms are the best? How far have you gone with web development? |
Hey webmasters, I'm about to delve into the world of web development but I'm unsure where and how to begin I know tiny bits of java and c# but nothing too deep, but I do understand the concept of OOP and can tell what a code is meant to do by looking at it. I have this great idea in my head about a website which I want to build and I don't know if I want to study css meaning, i'll most likely be outsourcing the theme/ purchasing it. I tried looking at Drupal 7 and it's making me go crazy, I have no idea how to even start. I was told that it offers the best functionality for what I'm about to do (classified ads type site). Good thing is that I know what I want but I don't know how to go about it, can you guys help by giving this blind man a guide? Can anyone give me a guide, link to good tutorials for a beginner? Please don't refer me to google.com, I need a reference that has been tried and tested, not something posted randomly And if you can offer me a tutorial on it (drupal or other alternatives) and will be my guide through this project when I fall, lets talk |
ENDTIMES: An average guy can and most times gives his girlfriend money even when she has not asked but when she labels it 'rent', 'weavon', School fees' ..., that's when the issue starts and hence the flurry of comment on this thread.By asking for money you're referring to daily upkeep? If that's the case then I must live in caveman island to not reason along that line. This is totally wrong, any self respecting woman will work for her money and not depend on a man to survive other than being married. Or are there no self respecting women again? I believe that's not true because I know a few. Will not raise my daughter to ask a man she ain't married to for money |
sleekch1c: Thank you mister perfect.....now roll over!Oh I was addressing someone else but apparently, you're touched as well. All I gotta tell you is that, there's dignity in labor rather than looking up to a man to pay your rent while you ain't married. You might as well go work at a brothel since sex is what you'll be giving both ways |
mizzocho.cinco:You're a disgrace to hardworking and respectable Nigerian women. |
Are you serious about this question? Wow! I'm glad I know hardworking and self-respecting women When did your dignity went down this far to be asking a guy for rent money when you ain't married? Disgraceful |
shymexx: Yes, their safety isn't guaranteed because they were warned before hand. Anyway, I don't see any infringement on the rights of the citizens since they were warned about it - and customary laws are allowed in the constitution. That's the custom of the land and you need to respect it.Why should my safety not be guaranteed if I choose to go out at night? Any threat to my.safety at that point is, and should be illegal. Of course you can be robbed or mugged but that's not legal and I don't see any criminal announcing his/her intention beforehand (of course I lied, it happens in the same Nigeria) Yeah going out at 3am isn't the smartest thing to do but things happen and you could be out there. All I'm saying is there's no other way around it, you can't give room to a law that puts your life at risk. You mentioned England and Christmas, the fact that it's Christmas doesn't mean I'm gonna stay at home if I don't want to. Agreed I may be stranded but that's my discretion as long as you ain't saying if I go out on Christmas, I could get hurt or even killed, that's an entirely different ball game. I mentioned earlier it's ok to practice your religion, I'm all for equal rights for all and I'll keep same ground if it was a Christian or a Moslem that was threatening people's safety. Of course we all know there isn't TRULY equal rights for all. I'm gonna let it rest here as I see us going back and forth so I might as well agree to disagree on it. |
shymexx: I think you're missing the point here, brother. I believe there's provision for customary laws in the constitution and the customs of the land represents the identity of the people.Well that's what I meant, it's simply another way to say go out at this time and your safety isn't guaranteed. That's an indirect way of saying the police (government) can't protect you, the rule of law doesn't stand at this point. That's completely wrong and.unacceptable Right, he owns the land and can do whatever he wants on it until he infringes on the rights of the citizens, there's a line there bro. There are rules on how far below and above you can go when it comes to land rights. I'm not surprised all of these is happening, Nigerians do not respect the rule of law and would rather bribe their way through it all. Even those screaming injustices are mostly for self gains, just as bad as the violators. Everyone is guilty and my advice is for you guys around the area to do anything to protect yourself and your family even if it involves following the absurd rule |
So Nigerians now celebrate Halloween? I doubt if they know its origin, just anything to feel among. Soon the real African witches and wizards will be having a laugh, an opportunity to be official.and come out openly ![]() |
shymexx: You definitely can't disrespect the culture/tradition of the land and tell people what they've been doing to centuries has to stop because it doesn't agree with your thought-process. It's a free world, if you don't like it, move to an area that's more suitable to you. You've got to be kidding me. That only applies if the region is being ruled by the Oba. As far as the constitution is concerned, there's a local government for a reason. Even at that, a federal laws overrides that so as long as you're not violating the laws of Nigeria, this is totally wrong especially if it involves a threat to my safety. Churches practice their religion in peace, Moslems do the same and if the traditionalists were to do same, no problem since everyone is entitled to that freedom as long as you're not going about threatening people which is what this is. Agreed some parts of Lagos practise dependent monarchy which is allowed by the constitution but it is limited and restrictions of movement isn't one of them. They need to be checked but I don't expect that to happen, after all it's Nigeria |
Polio: This thread reeks of tribalism and bigotry. That plus illiteracy and ignorance. Imagine someone questioning why I should be outside at 4am, a grown man and in 2013? Backward country with backward mentality and backward people. Nigeria isn't ruled by a monarchy and I still find it hard to understand why the Oba or whoever it can issue a decree under a functioning Democratic government, well it's all a joke anyways. The anti igbos and anti Yorubas on this thread make me wanna delete my account, evil people and mindset |
Dear God by Smokie Norful |
Now that you've mentioned it, it's been.noticed. why would you stay in a relationship with a guy as his boyfriend for 8 freaking years? That's a question by the way |
Lol @ all the ugly people feeling like Mr/Ms world ![]() |
Billyonaire: That's Okwi, a friend of mine, never knew he owns that house, got to ring him up.If you have to say it, it probably isn't true |
I no know book:Good point. I have the type of job an average American would be grateful to have. Same with several other Nigerians working with same company. These are just people I know, there are lots of Nigerians living decent lives doing great things other than being a janitor. Somewhat I'm questioning the op's claim to being in America. I refuse to believe anyone in America will make such absurd generalization. I understand you're trying to drive home a point which I totally agree with but using false statements/justifications and pictures will not score you additional points |
Billyonaire: Guy, I am not righteous. I am a businessman and I spend too much money to buy diesel for Mikano generators for both my house and office and storage in addition to huge power bills. I can not operate at a loss and I can not run to EMERIKA. I settle the boys and they cut down the tax naw. Wetin Government do for me ?Fair enough, no one is righteous but what are you doing to make things better or at the least, leave it the way it is. You seem to be contributing to the negativity going on in Nigeria. All i'm saying is, You and I are the change we've been clamoring for. The attitude of "as long as me and my family are doing ok" will not get the country anywhere |
manny4life: Huh? Are you talking about a background check? A credit check is a risk assessment. Someone with a low score posses a high potential risk depending on what's on their credit.I know about credit checks and all that and what I meant was exactly what you quoted. It seems we're saying the same thing, you get those if you going towards the financial side of things mostly. Even for government jobs, it's usually federal government and maybe some very sensitive side of state government. I'm saying this based on experience, I've worked with DHS at the State level and I never had my credit checked soft or hard pull. I currently work at a classified level in a volatile field and I needed security clearance for some things. The point is that, it applies to some jobs BUT not all jobs. You can get a lot of jobs by doing neither |
My advice is Come to America ONLY if you have the opportunity and you can't afford the life of a middle class/upper class in Nigeria. Anything outside of that means that you'll be gambling and it can go either way. It's usually not advisable to migrate to anywhere once you're above certain age anyway. I'd say less than 25 and unmarried/without kids. Anything other than that is a huge gamble. Not saying you'll or won't make it if you fall in any category, it just means that you have a better/slimmer chance. Heck, life is all about taking risks anyways so come if you feel you have nothing to lose except your dignity and maybe your wife/kids if you fail ![]() |
manny4life: Yes, credit checks to get a job and insurance.Well there you go, some jobs require it based on what you have to deal with, but a lot of time, other than going the direction of the financial fields, the credit check is to make sure you haven't had past dealings with something similar to the job. A lot of jobs DO NOT a require credit check |
manny4life: Other than the maternity leave which is incorrect though (a pregnant lady qualifies for leave under FMLA), all others are TRUE.This is wrong Credit checks to get a job, auto insurance(seriously?) |
Billyonaire: I live in VI, I bribe them and the rest is history. This is not New York.I don't get you, so you bribe your way out of paying taxes yet you complain about the terrible state the country is in. How's Nigeria supposed to be better when people have your mindset? Now some are complaining about paying taxes in the US yet they want to have a good road, constant electricity et al, what gives? Come on people |
lady gogo: @Op. Did your eyes just clear? America is a third world country compared to the other first world countries on the list. I honestly do not know how people survive in that country. Absolutely zero social safety net. Some of the points you made are true to an extent but mostly depend on the job. I agree the healthcare system is probably one of the worst, if not the worst in the West |
Op also needs to stop making some generalizations some of which are disrespectful to hardworking Nigerians in America. The fact that I work as a cleaner doesn't mean I'm not successful, a lot of these guys have enough to last them their lifetime and kids granted it's not the best of jobs. Also there are hardworking Nigerians doing big things. I have Nigerians working at my company as engineers, lab scientists and IT analysts. |
Here's my take on this I feel like the op made some very good point about life in America as an immigrant however, a lot of these points were definitely over exaggerated. Yes, life it tough being a black person, an African immigrant at that but based on your comparisons, would you rather pick the average life of a Nigerian or that of an American? Well this will depend on what's average in that sense but we all know, to live the average life in Nigeria, you have to basically become your own government, which is very different from the average life of an immigrant in America. Migrating to the US is a decision an intending immigrant has to ponder thoroughly. Yes, life in America be hard initially but there's potential for it to get better which is where foresight and planning comes into place. The American society is enabling enough to make you comfortable, which to me is what's on every immigrants lip. However to become rich, you have to work extra hard, be specially talented, gifted, lucky and several other factors but the main thing is that, it is possible. Is it possible to make it in Nigeria? Of course it is. We have so many people who are living very good lives in Nigeria. Does that mean it's easy? NO, it's never easy even in Nigeria. In the end, I feel like go wherever you find the opportunity of a better life, America has everything you need to be make it compared to Nigeria, but that doesn't mean every immigrant will make it. Same way, not every Nigeria will be successful/unsuccessful |
This should be renamed "Nairaland got psychos and weirdos"" |
This brought tears to my eyes. R.I.P Michael, you're one of a kind and may God bless your soul |
Is this another way to say 'rate my look?' ![]() I don't think you'd put your picture up if you were struggling with self esteem. Well whatever it is, don't be defined by your look but what you have on the inside. Beauty is subjective and you're what you think you are, not what anyone thinks of you |
You really had to write an essay to convey a simple message, they met on nairaland? To show you can write and speak big grammar or learned? Double mtschewww ![]() |
Can you guys type in English please ![]() |
